You coming to Evo world??
no hate from me rusty. just wanted to make sure everything was cool
LOL JustBlowin is the joke of Chicago.
Thanks, I learned a lot from the beatdown you gave me last year.
Gonna try my best to make it out to evo worlds, but I dunno why the hell it’s so late this year. School starts that week and i’m not sure if I want to skip some classes and be behind with an already overload schedule. I’ll keep you updated though and thanks for the offer. :smokin:
He is new to me. I need video of this ‘joke of chicago’ so I can show all my friends. Please, someone, deliver.
You can go to Evo World and play on your stick like everybody else. Or you can go to dozens of tourneys that allow this as well. Evo North is not one of those tourneys, like it was stated in the rules months ago. The customer is always right but, in this case, you could not expect to play o anything else. Its like asking for a Coke and being furious because you got a Coke instead of a Pepsi. As any event, Evo may have some problems, but this is not one of them.
Yeah, I should’ve asked for a refund after I played one casual match. Of course, I would have been denied. Again… lesson learned.
Keits: this was a good one: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8524377290044991570
Focus factor and lotion! You’ll see. For more entertainment, search around the soulcalibur.com forums.
OMG! 18 minutes of JustOwnin’?! This is going to be priceless. Thank you SO much! :wow:
Edit: Aww. I wanted more of JustOwnin, and less Tekken matches. Any footage of the man, the myth, himself? Just him talking is priceless.
Actually, the 3S sticks at this tournament were like asking for a Coke and then being furious because the Coke had no carbonated water and all you got was the nasty syrupy mixture. These sticks were even worse than the Wico 360s a few years ago at MWC, which had previously topped my list of shittiest sticks to ever be used in a major. Thank you Evo North for setting a new standard of shittiness in tournament play! :karate:
Besides that, fun tourney as usual.
Ryan, you need to get unbanned somehow… it is so confusing to see poon posting, only to deduce that it is you posting, haha.
Good shit at EVO North, dude, I am honored to have my ass whooped by the original Zappa gangsta, in Zappa vs. Zappa casuals! :bgrin:
LOL, after all these years of us using “shitty” sticks, it’s amazing how the same guys are always winning, and same guys never complain and just get their money and leave. (Justin, Nebraska players among others)
Like I said, cabinet 1 was the only issue because of the way it was drilled on 3s. I did not hear any complaints about the other cabinets come tournament time at all, and that goes for every single game. We played on 3 different sets of sticks, including 360s (which I loathe) and I get everything to come out, just tougher to block.
Adjusting seems to be the big issue here. Everyone tries to fault the sticks when they lose because you have to understand “in the heat of the moment” moves will not come out (pressing low forward then doing deep uppercuts as an example) unless you are accustomed to that particular stick. A lot of players wanted their precious “Sanwa” sticks. Years ago they wanted their precious 360s. It never ends.
And to those of you continuously saying that because YOU play on console, EVERYTHING should be on console, even the ONE tournament a year us arcade old men get to look forward to: Try playing on arcade machines for all fighting games for 12-15 years, then try to “sit on the floor”, or hold the stick between your legs, and deal with having to clench your forearms down slightly so you can hold the stick down as opposed to having them free, allowing you to take your hands off the joystick to do quicker moves as opposed to having the stick possibly fly all over the place.
All these complaints about arcade, and after playing that CVS2 tournament where sticks won’t work, me having to borrow 4 other sticks for each match (different stick each time) and having moves not come out, and still do ok, I think I have a good excuse as to why I would want ARCADE for that particular game. There are two sides to everything, and no one will ever be pleased, but if you want the Sanwas, and want to be like Japan and SBO, realize that THEY PLAY ARCADE mostly.
I think it’s beating a dead horse seeing people complain about the sticks when the player simply can’t adjust, or complaining about not having console at an announced ARCADE tournament.
This is why you rarely see me enter tourneys anymore, I choose not to play console because I can’t play my best on it, simple as that. Others feel the same way about arcade, to each his own.
Actually, I never fault the sticks for losing. Justin earned his victory as usual. You just spent five paragraphs preaching to the choir.
I love arcade, just hate shitty sticks. Everyone who played in the tournament agreed that the sticks were shitty. You are the only player who did not want 360s in the tournament (not that it would’ve been much better if they were Wico instead of Happ). I can play on shitty sticks just fine, just not 100%. I don’t think Justin, myself, or anyone was able to play 100%.
Let’s recap:
MVC2: P360s, no complaints. Perfect tournament
Console tourneys: Perfect
3rd Strike: Shitty sticks, everyone complained, but DreamTR is happy because 360s are for noobs and they were meant for NFL Blitz. DreamTR invents an imaginary group of people who prefer shitty sticks to rally support.
Competitions are actually fine too, but in this particular case they were all too loose and the angles were awkward. That’s why everyone jumped walking side-to-side, it was harder than normal to super jump the correct direction, and harder than normal to do double fireballs.
Once again, 100% unanimous tournament player decision that 3S sticks were shitty (Minus DreamTR). I am just the one telling you that they were shitty, it could be anyone telling you this and nothing would change.
poonage: I was definitely not the only one who did not want 360s. In fact, I could have cared less to be honest, but there were at LEAST two people (check the old thread leading up to EVO North’s dates) as well as Humbag, Sabre, SHAADY, DSP, and some other local Chicago players complaining about 360s in general at that location. CHanging them out did nothing, so we decided to go to switch. I can play 3s on 360s fine. The blocking in that game is wider for some reason, so I don’t seem to miss it like I do in ST or CVS2.
As far as the Wico/Happ argument. Happ bought Wico out. Wico 360s are now Happ 360s. Been that way for years. The Perfect 360 Controllers by Happ have not been produced in at least 5-6 years. The only one you can get is the old Wico stick that Happ took over.
The sticks were fine, except for cabinet 1 left side for 3s… but then again, that’s the stick I got knocked out on, so I might even be biased
Does anyone happen to have the actual tournament bracket for the SSBM tourney?
I doubt it’s still around, but it’d be nice if I could get my hands on a copy of it for SWF.
While it’s true I don’t like 360s either (on that cabinet at Nickels anyway)…I really wanted the switch-out panel cabinet you told me about to make it to MWC…that would make *so *many people happy.
But I guess its too much trouble to lug that thing across the country.
But yeah everyone was jumping all over the place on the switch sticks…moreso on the main cab but also the one by the party room entrance as well.
Theyre doable, but it just takes getting used to…literally everyone went through this at least one round per match:
- Playing fine on them, everything is going normal.
- Getting hit with an overhead or projectile because they pulled back to block, but it jumped instead.
- Entering a twilight zone where they just start jumping uncontrollably whilst trying to do moves and getting punished because of it.
Anyway I think the bottom line is, that big cabinet that everyone hates every year, needs to go. Its over the hill…the wirings probably jacked up, its just no good…and has been the common denominator for peoples complaints over the last few years.
Ok, i guess ill post this now than later.
To me, its not that the sticks were bad really (couple were jumpy) its just that its the situation i was put in was messing me up.
Jason, i got nothin but respect for you and all the other remaining og’s, its just the current majority of players prefer their own equipment. Trying to adjust to new stuff in 2 days is real, real hard. But in this case, it wasnt the equipment at all. I was getting 95-100% of the stuff i wanted (cept cab 1) on the competitions and blocking well. I was just not comfortable at all with how i had to play.
I tried sitting on a stool, but it was too low for how i hold the stick. So i just stood, which was kinda too high but a lot better. Not only that but the 2 other cabs were very small (im a pretty big guy shoulder wise) and forced you to play at an odd angle. I just feel that when i play, there should be a comfort zone which i couldnt obtain once the whole weekend.
All in all i had a great time, even though i was dissapointed with the 3s tourny (which was run great although late). I just dont wanna get to the point were i refuse to go to mwc tournys any more because of how uncomfortable it is.
Of course the good players will continue to win. Most of them have been playing a long time and are used to these types of settings which i lack (only started playing in competitive tournys a year ago). It was just really frustrating for me this last weekend (and others) because i felt i could do better with my own stick.
Once again, let me say that the sticks were fine. It was just the situation we had to play in was very uncomfortable. But what can i say, thats nickel city for ya.
poonage: there were lots of people that didnt mind the sticks, minus cabinet one. dont make it sound like dream was the only one. we all agree cabinet 1 is not great cuz of the poor drilling alignment. cabinet 2 and 3 were fine for me. and 360’s do suck. but i trained myself to play on any stick. there are PLENTY of people that were there that didnt want 360’s. so dont get dilusional. but its like dream says. we cant please everyone. so please dont think that we are against you guys.
like dream and myself have been saying for months. this is MWC MWC MWC. if anyone knows anything, MWC has always been arcade. ALWAYS. we beat this shit with a dead horse on how it was still arcade on some games. and yet people still went, knowing they couldnt use their sticks, and still bitched up a storm. no one to blame but yourself.
nothing wrong with wanting to use your own stick. i understand. but no need to get all sarcastic and condescending cuz we have decided to stick with tradition and keep it to where the arcade generation can still go and play arcade. you guys got 89765873658736854 console tourneys now. howabout you let us have our one arcade tournament without you guys shitting on it.
as for open stations. you try running 2 huge brackets, 8 stations total, taking registration for another game and sorting the money, and creating a 3rd bracket, and trying to see what stations are open through the sea of people, then trying to remember of the 8 matches you called up to play, to keep track of all of em, so you dont start calling the matches again. i dont think you guys understand the amount of work it takes to do such a thing with only 1 other person. then you gotta deal with the people that dont fucking listen and pay attention, or decide to take off for an hour when they should be playing. thats what really holds a tourney up and leaves stations open. i DQ’ed a lot of people cuz of this. i dont fuck around with this stuff.
honestly, i dont respect anyones opinion on how well the tourney should be ran unless they have done one of this magnitude or bigger, themselves. its a much bigger job than you can imagine when you arent fully staffed.
anyway, enough with all the bs.
shout outs to the people that came and actually appreciated what was going down and understood the shit we have to go thru to make “ARCADE” tournaments possible.
good meeting a lot of the midwest players from MI, OH, etc…

Yeah, EX2+ was probably my worst EX game, plus its on stick lol. But you earned your win. I’m just glad I could get revenge for that beatdown you gave me in A2 lol.
Watch it though, EX3 for next year, hope ya practice up. Perhaps get it added to evo lol.
Its not our faults you were understaffed so dont go disrespecting people like that. Ive had to run tournys with 2 people or less before (64 person smash tourny it was a fucking nightmare) and know what it is like. Its tough, but next time you just gotta be prepared and have more people.
Yes we know MWC is an arcade tournament. I have nothing against arcades, its just that nickels is shit. Yes it is shit, not the controls, the arcade itself.
But whatever, dont take whatever i say seriously, im still just salty about the whole weekend as a whole, not the tournament. You guys did a great job running it and deserve mad props.
-end rant
ohh yeah good game Sabre in 3s, your oro was tricky as hell and once again proves oro to be my worst match up in that game
Anyway, ill make a few shoutouts.
