Sweet. I’ll probably pick it up and check it out. I’m a sucker for Dungeon Crawlers and pretty much any game where you can pimp out your character.
There are some similarities between Baldur’s and Diablo, but Diablo has more emphasis on the action. There’s no pause button, you only control/develop one character at a time, you dodge projectiles by actively walking out of their way, etc.
There’s also more emphasis on your equipment. In D2, a fully geared sorc at Lv75 was much stronger than a Lv90 Sorc using the same stat/skill build but using cheaper equipment. You can expect to either pay a lot or grind a lot to have the best equipment.
You don’t need a great PC to play D3. Most video cards will be able to handle the game with little problem. The game does get CPU intensive when you’re in multiplayer, though. The game was in open beta last weekend, that was your chance to see how well your computer could handle the game before buying it If you have a prebuilt there’s probably a video on YouTube of someone showing how well (or how poorly) the D3 beta ran on it.
If your computer can play League of Legends it’ll probably handle D3 just fine.
What I’m building:
MB: GIGABYTE GA-A75M-D2H
CPU: AMD A8-3850 Llano 2.9GHz
GPU: HIS H675F1GD Radeon HD 6750
RAM: G.SKILL Ares Series (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1866
PSU: Zephyr MX 750 750W
Air cooling, no SSD drives. Should run D3 np, could probably stream it at the same time lol.
Reported.
Since you have to be online at all times does that I won’t be able to play D3 when they close it’s servers? What if 10 years from now I have an itch for it?
If Diablo 2 is still up 10 years from when it came out, D3 will be as well.
If not, then you are shit out of luck.
will probably have to temporarily sign out of SRK for a few years to be able to play this game when it gets released. i was lucky enough to be able to even sign up for membership here on SRK before i discovered the evil joys of multiplayer D2. good thing UMVC3 has a shelf life of 10 years so i can play with a console fighting game after i get done with Diablo 3… or maybe not.

Unless they patch it you’re going to have to rely on gasp! the hacking community!
Fix it yourself. That’s the definition of hacking in the first place.
Blizzard did patch D2 to no longer require the CD to be inserted, so who knows. Perhaps they’ll provide a solution. I think it would have been better to avoid the problem in the first place, but then again, I’m not a multi-million dollar gaming company so WTF do I know?
15 days, bitches.
Less than that, if the servers are going to be up at midnight of Tuesday.
And yeah, if in 10 years there aren’t any private servers for D3 then something is seriously wrong
I’m fairly certain Blizzard will still have servers up for D3 in 10 years. I mean shit… they still have servers up for Starcraft ONE, don’t they?
I know it might sound really stupid when I say it out loud but, when considering buying a game any game the first thing I think about is: Will this game hold up in my old age decades from now assuming I’m around?..I guess I’m just a cheapass that wants his games to last forever:rofl:
I haven’t had any real interest in a hack and slash in years, then all of a sudden I go into this thread and get so hype for a game that really wasn’t on my radar at all, I guess it speaks to how the Diablo franchise really monopolizes the genre.
Your games are written on DVDs and BluRays.
The mediums themselves lose their physical integrity.
As do your systems - but they wear out for mechanical reasons, most times.
Who still has a working DC, beside Pablo The Mex, who has a fucking closet full of them “just in case”?
Blizzard is going to be around and you can re-download it for as long as they are around.
I can say the same thing about all the other games I purchased from them.
If Blizzard doesn’t stick around, then a lot of bad shit has to happen first. This includes not having anyone else who will buy them out and keep things going.
Not sure if I want to get the collector’s edition or not. The extra $40 seems pretty stiff and I’m already hurting on cash… On the other hand, the extra stuff is really cool.
Spend 10 bucks more and get a 6770. You wont regret it.
my dreamcast still works…i just have to find where i put it, lol. i locked it up somewhere after mvc2 came out on psn…
Which is why I’m a proponent of physical media over digital downloads. Call it being paranoid but I trust my own ability to keep my shit in pristine condition more then a company’s ability to sustain their shit online. A scratched disc? Not happening on my watch but a company crash? yeah that seems more likely, look at what happened with Ubisoft, sure it was only for a week but that was still total bullshit. I’m glad technology is progressing so fast and I’m probably in the minority on this but I still would rather rely on a disc than cloud storage if I have the option.
Make copies. Yes, this includes hardware too. It’s essentially all custom BIOS and logic anyway, so as long as backwards compatibility provides a means to read from and maybe write to the media then you’re golden.
We have programs that began life on punched card and reel-to-reel tape and I am capable of copying them to whatever media I wish. I can then use the software on original hardware, or an emulator if I wish. Of course, talking about playing games for nostalgia purposes is a far cry from being able to go over hospital billing records from the 80s.
In 10 years when D3 is in v 1.30 or whatever and the servers are being taken down to prepare for the launch of Blackthorne 2 Blizzard will update the game to allow offline/LAN play.
Spoiler
LOL
