Official and Only Team Building Thread (ALL TEAM BUILDING TOPICS GO HERE)

I know what people are gonna say, and I have already practiced and lost a lot with these three, but I want to make it work.

Zero(Hadangeki) / Strider(Gram) / Vergil(Rapid Slash).

I built this team initially as Strider/Zero/Vergil since my main was Strider in MvC2, but trial and error has slowly made me construct this team thusly.

What I aim to do is use Zero’s Sougenmu and Vergil’s Devil Trigger and turn them into buffed assists for Strider. Despite him being a glass cannon, he serves as a more reliable battery than Zero, given my current level of skill with him. I don’t use Vergil’s Level 3 or swords that often, so I use him more as an HP buffer because X-Factor + Devil Trigger = Awesome.

I use Strider’s Air Gram + Rapid Slash Assist to cover the whole screen, or use Vajira.

I use Formation S + Sougenmu Hadageki Assist to either Teleport or Wall Cling for mixup.

Aside from that Zero and Strider tend to last longer than my Vergil due to me being unable to hit-confirm very well with him yet.

I want to tweak and improve this team or it’s order as much as possible…but right now I am lacking in skill for Vergil and Zero, so working with those two is a challenge, but it’s a challenge I chose for myself…and I’m stubborn, lol

If this is your aim (and for other reasons) I would run Zero/Vergil/Strider. Zero and Vergil have absolutely stupid DHC synergy to each other. If you’ve ever witnessed the Zero/Dante DHC from vanilla, it was taken away then buffed and given to Zero/Vergil instead. If you want to focus on Strider this also allows you to quickly power-up both Zero and Vergil when you have enough meter and then switch strider in (either with a 2nd DHC to him or otherwise). This also gives you access to the beast that is XF3 Strider in case your Zero and Vergil get iced early. It’s a very good team, but I would also switch Strider to Vajra assist. Rapid Slash already covers what you would use Gram for and when Vergil is on point he can convert the knockdown from Vajra into huge damage. Honestly this is one of the best Zero teams right now.

Iron Fist (Rising fang?), Phoenix Wright (press the witness), Amaterasu (cold star)

Im not sure I see the benefit of Wright being second? On the other hand, if you had Wright first and can get into “Beast” Mode, and switch him out. Press the Witness would really help iron fist in my opinion. And if Wright dies rather fast, i think cold star is a good assist for iron fist. But maybe u have a different master plan, maybe u can elab a bit?

Still pretty new since I didn’t play mvc3 as seriously since I was occupied with sf4…
Umvc3 has sparked my interest and for now I just want to build marvel teams so some input would be much appreciated

First main team is looking like iron fist(rising fang), captain amercia(shield), and I’m still looking for a third to match…
I still have no idea on what makes a good anchor char so I guess I need the most help here
For a 3rd id want a marvel char out of: doom/hawkeye/skrull/sent/ironman
can anyone give me a quick rundown of how any one of these chars would synergize or benefit my team as an anchor?
I’m really trying to understand the game mechanics and I haven’t been able to find all the team building info I need, so if anyone has some detailed info it would be much appreciated
Tl; dr what makes a character have good anchor status

Who would work well as an assist/backup for Firebrand? I already have Sent. Drones, and would prefer someone who either makes Firebrand even more retarded or would make a suitable backup for him. (I can use Sent. as an anchor, but that may change depending on who I find.)

Hey guys, long time lurker first time poster. I played a bit of MVC3 and really liked the combat but didn’t really grasp the team mechanics. In UMVC3 I really want to put together a good team and give my friends some competition. The team I’ve been working with/think I’m good with are Morrigan/Viewtiful Joe/Frank West but I feel like I’m really lacking some range. I manage to get off a pretty good Frank West Shopping Cart Assist + Viewtiful Joe Voomerang keep away game going sometimes?

Any help you guys could offer?

Ammy’s Cold Star works well, and Ammy with Drones works well too.

I have 2 teams I need opinions on:
Spidey: Web Ball, Hulk Gamma Charge Anti Air, Hawkeye, greyhound shot
Cap: Shield Slash, Nova Centurion Rush, Hawkeye greyhound shot

Maybe Trish / Ammy / Phoenix ?

I like to dhc into wright from my point characters to have time from maya’s super to collect evidence, but testing this team out: rising fan is really easy to protect with maya barrier and I can do a 300k mini-combo off of any normal hit and send the opponent a full screen away from me with rising fang, so playing keepaway and collecting evidence should be easy with PW on point. I’ll probably end up switching him tot he first slot with iron fist as 2nd.

running capam/Task/hawkeye, could you guys help me build a strat around these chars?

It’s not a bad team at all. Wesker OTG assist gives X-23 huge damage and meter build and Strider assist helps get people out of the air which is one of her big issues. Especially since a lot of the worst lame out she has to deal with is aerial based. Magneto + drones will still be a big problem for you but at best you could try to call strider assist and then M or H talon attack across the screen and see what happens (mash on f+H if you think you might get air thrown). Strider assist isn’t exactly ideal for her left/right mix ups since strider hitting grounded opponents doesn’t give you much hit stun. Still not bad if you can clutch it out and confirm it. If X-23 dies hopefully you landed some hits first so she becomes a nice meter build for Wesker and Strider. Wesker and Strider is like a ghetto version of Wesker and Haggar where you’re fishing to get hard knockdowns into gun shot combos if they’re in the air. If they stay on the ground in fera of your assist that’s when you can move forward with your footsies. Call assist teleport isn’t exactly awesome with an assist like Strider but at least it’ll keep them on the ground.

I hate the dog lol

Could Trish, Storm and Felicia work?

They’re all solid picks, but on the surface I’m not seeing any particularly impressive symmetry. May you could do a Storm combo DHC’ed into Round Harvest then hard-tag Felicia to pursue in the air with a ground-bounce Delta Kick? That would be pretty snazzy.

Storm jumping Whirlwind spam with Trish assist covering the ground with Low Voltage could be pretty annoying. Dunno if either assist will be of any particular use to Felicia but then again Felicia is kind of dangerously good now anyways. Fuck Wolverine’s Dive Kick, Delta Kick spam is the new worst thing ever.

Storm seems like the potential weak link on this team, but you could maybe use Felicia assist to set up tri/square-dash unblockables.

Generally a good anchor can do the following:
[]Perform mix-ups and maintain offensive pressure without the aid of assists
[
]Derive a large benefit from X-Factor Level 3 (safe offense, ToD combos)

Make good use of excess meter
Out of the characters you have left in your selection, Doom, Hawkeye and Skrull are going to have the strongest potential for using XF3.

Doctor Doom

[details=Spoiler]Pros:
[]High mobility
[
]Powerful combos
[]Extreme damage in the corner
[
]Decent zoning ability
[]Powerful assists
[
]Full combo off of any touch
Cons:
[]High execution (mid-screen combos and rapid-tri-dash)
[
]Popularity (opponent is more likely to be aware of his options)
[]Situation-specific DHC options (mostly useless outside of the corner)
[
]Straightforward high/low mix-ups

Excess meter is less useful
[/details]
Hawkeye

[details=Spoiler]Pros:
[]Amazing zoning
[
]Above-average mobility
[]Excellent use of excess meter
[
]Powerful assists
[]Amazing DHC options
[
]New character shine (people are still trying to figure out how to fight against him)
Cons:
[]High execution (careful attention to position, especially in corner, required for relaunch)
[
]Low damage (ToDs will be difficult to achieve)

Limited rush-down options
[/details]
Super-Skrull

[details=Spoiler]Pros:
[]Above-average mobility
[
]Amazing normals
[]Command grab
[
]Strong DHC options
[]Meteor Smash cross-ups
[
]Character unfamiliarity (does anyone besides Hi I’m Nasty use him?)
Cons:
[]Very linear rush-down (outside of random Meteor Smash)
[
]High execution (damaging combos require many specific timings for successful relaunches)
[]No great assist synergy
[
]Excess meter is less useful
[/details]
Personally if you can learn to use him, I would go with Doom. He can do immense damage off of any touch, especially in XF3, and his assists will do amazing work for your first two characters as well. You will have difficulty DHC’ing into him outside of the corner, but both Iron Fist and Captain America travel so far during their BnBs that you should end up in the corner most of the time anyways.

Other than that, Hawkeye would probably be your second best option if you want the ability to switch to a zoning strategy mid-match. If you find yourself sitting on a lot of meter by the time you’re down to your last guy, Gimlet is great for putting some fear in your opponent.

Ok so I got UMvC3 now and my best character so far is Storm (was also my best character in MvC3).
So she is the first/point character and I tried to find a good anchor and I really like Akuma as an anchor for my team cause he has some good synergy with Storm.

But I don’t know which other character I should use.

  1. Wesker?
It’s the most obvious choice I guess, but I don’t really want to use him, because that would be Justin Wong’s team and I heard he is the cheapest character in UMvC3 at the moment.
Even though his otg assist would be good for Storm.

  2. Trish?
I like her. Her supers have some good synergy with Akuma/Storm and I know one of her bnb combos. But it’s hard to land on characters with a small hitbox midscreen.

  3. Dormammu?
I used him a lot in MvC3 and know some stuff with him.

  4. Morrigan?
I also used her in MvC3.

I haven’t really tried many characters yet. I was also thinking about Felicia, because she has an otg assist.
Do you think an otg assist is necessary for my team or would it be also good without it? I’m unsure atm. ^^

I would like to use at least two females in my team if possible .

Storm / ??? / Akuma

I’m in need of finding a point character to round out my team. Right now I’m running with Vergil and Dormammu, both of which can be notable meter hogs (particularly Dormammu in my limited experience.)

My problem seems to be that Vergil’s assists don’t really do much for Dormammu. Rapid Slash seems to perform the same function as Dark Matter, Judgement Cut practically IS a Dark Hole L, and Purification L can cover what Rising Sun does. The only real assist I can see Dormammu being useful tossing around is Dark Hole right after a High Time, locking the opponent into place long enough for Vergil to teleport back down and do more comboing.

There doesn’t seem to be a copious amount of synergy between the two, but I love both characters in their history as well as how they operate and would hate to have to toss either (Dormammu especially; he’s my boy.)

Right now I’m toying around with X-23 because her OTG assist is helpful for Vergil and his limited OTG options.
I also played around a lot with Nova and like his playstyle, but he doesn’t seem to synergize well with the other two on my team.
Wesker seems like he would be a beautiful battery character with his meh supers and handy OTG, but I can’t bring myself to like his playstyle.

I’m relatively new to the game, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I completely overlooked or misinterpreted anything. As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think Felicia/Storm/Akuma would be pretty godlike, and Nova does help X-23, he can use his ground bounce assist to extend her combos and create unblockables, and DHC from X-23 into him will give you a lot of damage since the Super Nova can connect even after she start the final portion of the Rage Trigger.

Trish is probably your best bet for the middle slot - you said it yourself, she has great DHC synergy with Storm, and with Round Harvest you can set up very difficult situations for your opponent (Round Harvest > hard tag Storm back in > mixups while opponent is in block state). Storm’s runaway game gets a big boost from any of Trish’s assists, although you will probably get more mileage out of Peekaboo or Hopscotch than you would out of High Voltage (Storm controlls horizontal space on her own). It may be worth playing around with assist types a bit because I’m certain Storm/Trish/Akuma can make a devastating THC - could be worth checking out.

You already have a strong anchor in Akuma, so defaulting to Wesker or Dormammu on your team isn’t as big of a deal as it might be for others. Morrigan has a similar gameplan to Storm, and they don’t DHC as well together as the other options.

Trish is your best bet, but Dormammu would be a close second as he offers many of the same benefits.
