Official and Only Team Building Thread (ALL TEAM BUILDING TOPICS GO HERE)

okay i’ve been working on figuring an IF/FW/xx but problem with the team i see so far is they relie on each other a little too much. iron fist needs cart to get in and frank needs iron fist to get in. so i’m thinking of building a second team that can all handle themselves on there own. and don’t need assists or lots of meter to make them good. and i also like characters who have a good mix of keep away and rush down.

any ideas? the characters i’m willing are:
i’ll also put 1 to 5 * by the names for a gauge of how much I’m liking them

Akuma****
Ammy*****
Arthur**
Chris*
Pheonix Wright*** (athough i guess he has the same problem as the IF/FW team. needs the right team)
Ryu***
Spencer****
Strider****
Viewtiful Joe*****
Wesker*…(maybe, but i have this thing where i don’t like playing over used top tier characters but if they fit my style i might)
Zero***
Deadpool***
Durmammu ***
Docter doom****
Docter strange****
Ghost rider****
Hulk*
Nova**
Rocket raccoon*****
Super Skull***
Task master**
Wolverine***

i’m also brand new the vs games so keep that in mind

I’m very new to UMVC3 and MVC3 in general but i’m looking for any suggestions on this team: Nova, Dante, Strider. I’m also very confused on what assist to pick for these characters. any suggestions or tips would be JUST GR8!! I’m also thinking instead of strider i use spencer any tips guys plz!!

My team is Jill (Arrow Kick)/Strange (Bolts)/Dorm (Dark Hole)

I’m getting results with Jill and Strange and have learnt how to play Jill with Bolts backing her up but the problem I have is Dorm has knocked my team out of sync. I want a strong XF3 anchor at the end but because Dorm’s best assist is Dark Hole and it’s not -that- useful for Strange, I’m running Arrow Kick for Jill to help Strange get time and space (full screen pressure, wall bounce gives Strange time to set his nonsense up) rather than Jill’s Somersault assist (which I would prefer for Cross-over purposes, especially as Strange gets pressured a lot)

So, TL;DR version: who are strong XF3 anchors with a good assist (not necessarily OTG assist)?

I know Dante, Doom, Magneto qualify. Who else? Felicia? Akuma? Does Hawk-Eye work as XF3 anchor?

All of those characters are good or great anchors. You might like Ammy as well, Cold Star assist can lock people down while you teleport for cross ups, and she has a ridiculous amount of tools. Strider is probably the best anchor in the game (Ouroboros is much easier to get than Dark Phoenix) and Vajra is annoying as shit.

I’m gonna go ahead and copy something I posted earlier in this thread.

Copying my post from the Zero boards because I think input here will be useful too:

I’m considering picking up an alternate team for cases when I need a teleporter (fuck Hawkeye).

Which would you guys think is strongest:
Zero/Strange-Eye/Magneto-Disruptor
Zero/Strange-Bolts/Doom-Missiles

Another possibility is Zero/Dante/Akuma (fuck Vergil). The only problem with this last team is it’s 2 characters that are not on my main team so I get less practice with them, at least on the other teams I’m only switching 1 character out.

Mind if I also resurrect an old post?

I would really appreciate more feedback,
positive or negative!

I will get back to replying to other people’s teams a little later…

I’ll put this in a spoiler because it’s kinda long and I don’t like being a page hog.

[details=Spoiler]First, Avarice is absolutely correct when he says that Zero should be on point. Besides Viper, Zero is the only character in the game who if you don’t have on point you’re automatically limiting the full potential of your team.

Also, Zero is much more than a rushdown character but that’s a different conversation.

Anywho, on to your questions:

- What are the pros and cons of using Zero first instead of Ammy?
Pros: Zero is one of the most versatile characters in the game and can play to his strengths in almost any matchup (but fuck Hawkeye). Ammy is somewhat versatile but no where near as much as Zero, and having a character start the match who can easily adjust his playstyle depending on his opponent is a big deal.

Zero’s new buff in Ultimate let’s him begin charging his buster before the round starts which gives him a move that your opponent has to respect at the start, this is important.

Cold Star >>>>> Any of Zero’s assists. Starting Ammy first is limiting her as you’re basically backing her up with Purification (which I’ll get into in a minute). Zero’s assists aren’t spectacular, and they only get decent once you double them up with Sougenmu which requires him to be on point in the first place. If you’re absolutely hell bent on the order of Ammy/Zero/Dorm, you might as well start Zero on point anyways so you can Sougenmu out as soon as you can to buff your assist.

Zero can ToD anyone in the game on the first touch, Ammy can’t. Starting Zero instead of Ammy increases your chances of getting the first kill sooner, thereby giving you the advantage by putting your opponent in an incoming mixup.

Cons: None. Zero is a point character.

- Is Dormammu’s Purification assist a good enough OTG?
What do you mean by “good enough”? This is kind of an ambiguous question.
I’ve seen Ryan Hunter use it with his Dr. Strange team and get some decent results, but it’s definitely on the weaker side of OTG assists unless you need it for a specific purpose like he does.

The problem with this assist on your team (in your particular team order) is two-fold.
One) Neither Zero nor Ammy needs a dedicated OTG assist.
Two) Purification really doesn’t do much for controlling the neutral game. It has a huge vertical hitbox but it’s startup is really slow at 56 frames, so most people don’t need to respect it.

But that’s if you play Ammy/Zero/Dormammu. If you were to switch your team order to Zero/Dormammu/Ammy then you would have Cold Star as your offensive assist for both of your other characters and could use Purification as an OTG/Whatever you really want it for assist, which would be much, much stronger. It’s all about team order.

- Should I keep Zero’s Ryuenjin assist for it’s counter potential?
It really depends on who you plan to use as your anchor. If you use Ammy as your anchor then yes, as Cold Star can provide enough offensive capabilities for your entire team. If you use Dormammu as your anchor, Hadengeki would possibly be a better option as you can Sougenmu Zero out at some point in the match which can provide Ammy with a somewhat decent horizontal assist.

Also, I don’t know if Ammy or Dorm can extend combos using Ryuenjin so if they can that might be a good reason to keep it as well.
Its crossover counter potential is very strong though, so if that’s all you want it for then absolutely keep it.

- Is using Ammy’s Vale of Mist and then DHCing into Zero’s Sougenmu a good/bad idea?
I don’t see why this would be a bad idea. Vale of Mist automatically gives you an advantage and Sougenmu is just a damn good install super. It would probably be pretty sweet for a Sougenmu unblockable on an incoming mixup too.[/details]

Thank you very much!
This is just what I was after!

I will definitely put Zero on point now,
but I think I will keep Dormammu as anchor:
I am still a bit novice with my team, so I will need the extra health.

I will trade Purification for Dark Hole;
the only reason I was using it was because I was told I “needed” an OTG assist.

Also keeping Ryuenjin as Zero’s assist: I have seen some pretty mean tricks I want to emulate
that use Zero’s team counter chained into Sougenmu!

That said: New team order is Zero (A) Amaterasu (B) Dormammu (A)
(Changing my signature to reflect this.)

Again; thanks!

Any other advice people wish to share?

You’re welcome.
I approve of your decision to switch to Dark Hole, which I think works a hell of a lot better than Purification for your team as it provides the OTG combo extension you need as well as decent lockdown which both Zero and Ammy want.
With Zero you can do Sentsuizan > Dark Hole and you can pick them up easily from anywhere on the stage, but now you have an assist that has other uses too. Definitely a nice trade off. Dormammu is a super good anchor too so that’s a good decision keeping him there.
Hope this new team order works out for you.

Alright, so.

I’m looking to make a team based on Jill Valentine, but I’m having problems figuring out who to use for OTG and Assist.

I’m also hoping to make it a female team, I like females (although if unable to it’s ok) ;D

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

My team consists of Firebrand (fireball)/Taskmaster(vert. arrows/maybe parabolic)**/Doom **(beam).

Basic game plan is to have a team that can do well against most match-ups, relying on controlling space with pressure from Firebrand’s Hell Spitfire-H in combination with task/doom assists (covering additional AA if needed and doom for ground coverage). I choose to have Firebrand on point because his assists are really mediocre at best; heavily outmatched by drones. Goal number one is to maintain offensive pressure until I have established a good life lead. Once that’s done, the goal becomes to maintain it via zoning and mix-ups when the opponent gets close.

Firebrand’s combos often leave you in the corner, where a DHC to parabolic Legion Arrow adds a good amount of damage. You can DHC to doom if you want to spend the meter and Sphere of Flame. If you happen to be mid-screen when your combo ends, you can still link Firebrand’s super into Taskmaster’s parabolic arrows, with some finger lasers if you NEED the kill.

Doom as the anchor to clean things up. Will foot dive for yogurt.

Any thoughts SRK community?

Hey I’m quite new to the vs series and I’m not very good at the game but I’m not sure on my team hers the characters I’m all right with.

Strider, Ghost rider, nova, wesker, skrull, doom, cap and wolverine.

any thoughts on who i should use and what assist.

I’ve been playing very casually and have only just come to realize the strategy that comes into creating a team. If anyone could give me some help on a decent team combination that would be wonderful.

I’ve been considering Taskmaster/Thor/Hawkeye but I don’t know how that would play out.
I’m also decent with Spencer, FW and IF.
But if anyone could improve on that potential team, I’d appreciate it.

I’ve been considering making a team focused around Phoenix Wright.

Any suggestions?

I’d suggest Wolverine, Wesker (B), Doom (A)

I’m using Dante/Nova/Dormammu, which assists would best help Dante?

Anyone have any opinions on who the best anchor without XF is? I came up with a really janky idea for a ridiculously front-loaded team that I think will actually be really good, and I only actually need 2 characters. What I need is some kind of insurance policy in the last character in someone that can fight any matchup without needing XF because the anchor on this team will never have XF. Having a projectile/zoning assist is an advantage here too. I’m thinking Tasky, Hawkeye, or Dorm. Meter will also be a little limited with this setup I’m running but not completely eliminated. Honestly most matches the anchor will never even see play.

Dante has to be up for consideration. At this point you should have some Meter. And that means Devil Trigger for more survivability, recovering health and ticking away at the clock. He also has tools to deal with just about everyone and does respectable damage. Jam Session is a useful assist obviously.

Morrigan as well. Harmonizer assist to keep the front loaded team with plenty of meter, and if it’s up to her you can again lame out or be an ass with Illusion and Soul Fist spam.

I’m looking at doing probably an unconventional team using Frank West (Shopping Cart)/Iron Man (Repulsor Blast)/Chris (Gun Fire). Or alternatively Frank West (Shopping Cart)/Iron Man (Unibeam)/Chris (Combination Punch).

Me personally I like the first choice due to Repulsor Blast able to act as a “get off me!” assist for both Frank and Chris and able to extend both their combos after OTGs. Chris’s assit meanwhile, I feel is more faster than Unibeam, and is more damaging. Out there to cover Frank’s mix-ups and adds to both Frank’s and Iron Man’s zoning. Any suggestions based on the team order and which of the choices I should go with?
