Eric Hosmer has been called up. Someone should pick him up.

considering this team is rock solid it really doesn’t need any moves
You are going to pick up Beltran.
I am down one bad husband. If I pick up Jason Bay, I guess that’d make a good husband, but he sucks at baseball.
how can you pick up jason bay when i own him and will never let him go
By offering you Josh Johnson obviously.
cueto startin on sunday also known as my ace in the hole
More like “fire in the hole” as in he’s your grenade.

why is everyone talking about the phillies starting 4 when the braves have 9 starting pitchers who could be #1 on almost every team in the league?
lowe, hansen, hudson, jurrjens and beachy in the majors
minor (1.93 ERA), teheran (1.80), medlen (returning august) r lopez (2.11) all at AAA
and they just took 2 out of 3 from them
oakland’s starters era is half a run better than anyone other team in the league
second best? atlanta
phillies #4 - deal with it
The funny thing is I know Rob is aware of xFIP and that the Phillies are #1 in xFIP, Atlanta is #2, Giants #3, Milwaukee #4, Oakland #5
well it’s bc lee / halladay skewing everything with their huge k/9 which is why the giants are up there too
another thing is xfip “normalizes” the HR rate which should be higher for the phillies based on the ballpark they play in so they’re getting an advantage there
i’m just hoping alexi ogando never normalizes and just runs godlike above expectations all season
oakland also has a much better infield defense than the phillies which helps and isn’t included in xfip
If only they had any semblance of an offense. Kurt Suzuki is the only position player worth more than half a win above replacement.
Thus, Oakland is irrelevant.
Ogando is an extreme flyball pitcher that pitches in Texas. This should be good when summer heat in Arlington makes fly balls travel 10-20 feet further.
His HR% per flyball is 10% so that’s right on target with normal, but his godlike .186 BABIP and 93.1% LOB%.
Yusmeiro Petit is jelly.
quick edit: Ogando 30% GB rate so the rest is LD and FB…probably 20 and 50% for the other two approximately.
Clint: moneyball worked when OBP was undervalued, but now every other team vulturing oakland guys. Oakland has been forced to stick to prospects with pitching, but have had a tough time getting any hitting since.
yea i’m prolly gonna drop ogando when bailey comes back
try to trade axford, keep padilla
and go with a rotating spot where i’ll pick up pitchers in good matchups then drop them
josh willingham is pretty good on oakland, about it tho. matsui is their #2 hitter which isn’t that good
There are some good pieces. Coco Crisp is really good actually except for being injury prone. I’d rate him above Willingham who just randomly runs hot or cold.
I think they’re keeping Chris Carter in the minors til July or something like San Diego is keeping their AGonz replacement in the minors. They really need to do away with the service time shit.
Atlanta should trade a starter for a hitter if they were smart. They need a bat and have too many starters.
Man, I should have bought the Jose Reyes wine when I saw it…
Longball Vineyards Manny Being Merlot 2005
But Manny Being Merlot? oh my.
uggla needs to learn how to play again then braves would be great cause they wouldn’t pitch around mccann to get to uggla
they could use a 1b man tho, get that freddie freeman scrub out of here
UZR is rather hard to incorporate into pitching accurately… sorta like how it’s hard to quantify what effect a good base stealer has
on the pitcher.
Advantage goes to Oakland pitchers in ERA because ballpark effects aren’t a good measure of how they pitch when balls going to warning track get caught and in Philly they go out for HRs. Part of Lincecum and Felix being so godlike is where they pitch. Peavy has died since he went to Chicago. Danks would be godly anywhere else but Cincy, Philly, Texas, and Yankee stadium.
yea same with chris young, which is why he was great for the mets until his arm exploded
the only person who can hit HRs in citi field is felix hernandez grand slams off of santana
but i’m glad everyone in this thread agrees the phillies are done for and the new regime of atlanta is coming to dominate. 1990s all over again. phillies put all their eggs and money into one basket and it’s not working out. better luck in 20 years when the farm system is fixed from the pillaging it went through to make this happen
do the new braves have a mark wohlers equivalent he was my favorite braves pitcher
Braves had had a pretty crazy run with being able to pull random 100 mph closers out of nowhere.
Wohlers, Powers, Farnsworth for a year, Wagner, and now Kimbrel…well I guess Kimbrel is just like 98 mph, not quite there, but I think it’s close enough.
Compare to the last decade of Blue Jays closers - I think we’ve had like one guy that managed to break 90+ mph.
