Official 2010-2011 NHL Thread: Vancouver suffers ARMAGEDDON! Also, Boston wins cup

He didn’t deserve a suspension.

For real. Montreal fans are pissed lol.

Nothing for that hit, James Wisniewski gets 2 for telling Sean Avery that he really likes popsicles, Sean Avery gets fired and almost run out of the league for an off-color joke.

Cool consistency there NHL

In all honesty… Suspend the action, not the result.
When Pronger stepped on Keslers leg, he got suspended even though nothing happened to Kesler.
And Chara has never been caught for anything questionable in his 10+ years in the league anyway.
I mean, he ain’t this guy.

LOL wow Montreal fans are fucking stupid.

HFBoards - View Single Post - Zdeno Chara’s Brutal Hit on Max Pacioretty - Part V (UPD: No Suspension/Fine)

Uh, yeah. What’s Montreal police supposed to do? Arrest him next time the Bruins play in Montreal? That might not happen until game 3 of a playoff series if it happens this season.

Honestly I would’ve at least fined the guy. I thought he followed through on the check well after the puck was out of the play, but I’ve seen enough checks like that against the boards to not assume he meant to slam his face into the center glass.

lol I still guarantee that Colin Campbell (who’s son plays for Boston) was a factor. He may not make a decision, but whatever…

like I said earlier, it was legitimate. It was an interference hit, that got ugly. And Chara doesn’t do stupid hits.

Man, I wonder what it would cost to get Valaris to wear a Chara jersey and talk a walk down Rue St. Lawrence

Man you better supply the bulletproof vest, medieval armor, and Enterprise-type shielding system along with the money and women (along with poutine, maybe) he’ll ask for if you want him to do that shit.

Chara is being let off too easily. How do you justify that hit being legit and just an interference call? By not punishing chara on this, what the league is saying is that the hit was all good. So if player A wants to hurt player B, player A can just run player B into the only 4 arenas that have that extension and recieve no consequence. :nono:

Chara didn’t purposly do it. He’s NEVER been punished in his entire career, so it’s not like there is a history of injuring players or anything. It was an interference penalty for sure, but no intent to injure. Chara just hit him like he normally does, there just happened to be an immovable object in the way. If that was regular boards, nobody would be saying a thing.

Don’t punish a player based on the outcome of a hit, punish them based on the ACTUAL hit. And Chara just interfered with a player who chipped the puck past him.

I can’t wait for the next Bruins vs Habs game

It was a fine hit. The NHL made the correct call. It sucks that Pacioretty is hurt, but punishment shouldn’t be based on that fact alone.

Right there you have a bias towards Chara based on the fact that hes never been punished before. Chara been in a few incidents that were questionable.

That aside, lets consider some other factors leading to that hit.

  • Pacioretty and Charas incident the game before this, where Pacioretty cross checks Chara from behind.
-You say theres no intent, how about replacing Pacioretty with the likes sidney or ovechin. Do you think Chara would have done the same? I highly doubt it, then there is intent.
-If it was regular boards, no body would have said anything. Thats its true, but fact is it wasnt regular boards. Charas played in Montreal many times and know where the extension is.

Rationalizing the hit to be justifiable doesnt protect players in the league. How many more good player will suffer till NHL does something?

So many things wrong with this post.

  1. A players history absolutely plays in to what his penalty will be. If he has a clean record, he’ll get off easier. The guys been in the league for what, 12 years? without any dirty hits. Chara isn’t a goon.

  2. Chara and Pacioretty’s incident the game before is irrelevant.

  3. You absolutely cannot prove intent. Impossible.

  4. If it was Crosby or Ovie would he do the same? Of course, probably more brutal too. Knowing their speed and skill. His job is to prevent the player from scoring. It was a typical rub out, that goes on plenty of times a game, that had a shitty outcome.

  5. The whole Chara “knows where he is on the ice” thing can be debated about Pacioretty too. He put himself in that situation as well. Plus, he jumped on the hit. Not a good idea.

Its an unfortunate thing that happened, but it happens.

Plus the fact that this happened to Pacioretty plays a big part. If this had happened to Scott Gomez, Montreal fans wouldn’t be saying a damn thing. Pacioretty had turned into their golden boy the past few months. I’m sure very few of them, if any, are concerned about his well being, more than they are losing a top power forward.

Not trying to badger you. Just reading Hfboards and this is more directed towards them. But I can’t post there anymore so yeah lol.

Some great debate here.

  1. Player history is only relevent to the how heavy the discipline will be. Its irrelevent to what was done. You dont let a crook off for robbing a store because he never had a record before. And guess what, Chara is still clean after this. He gets a get out of jail free card again next time.

  2. that is not relevent at all?

  3. Trust me, if sid or ovie was in the same situation with chara, chara guarenteed would not have ran them in like that. This is amplified because of what happened the last game, and Chara had his target set.

  4. These are highly skilled athletes, and have very good control of their body. Chara knew exact what he was doing, he want to line him up and crush him. Yes maybe Pacioretty shouldnt have put im self in that situation, but with Charas 12 years experience shouldnt have went for that hit.

Theres no arguing what chara wanted to do. The only thing to debate is whether he intented to push his head into the extention or not.

:wow: That is aweful

Edit: lol the correct term for the glass is stanchion. Ive been callign it extention. oops

NHL made the right call. That type of rub out hit happens multiple times all over the ice. It’s an unfortunate circumstance that it was at center ice. The hit was clean though. If he doesn’t go for the hit, he lets his man get past him. Or he takes a penalty. He’s paid to stop players, not baby them.

Don Cherry, as usual, the voice of reason.

They showed like 30 hits that were even worse, and the exact same situation, and no suspensions.

Grapes even said, either you suspend him for 20 for intentionally injuring a player, or you give him zero games. If you start penalizing for players getting injured in those situations, and you suddenly have players afraid to even hit around there. Habs fans (and idiotic fucks who think they know better, or have likely not played as much hockey as some of the rest of us, namely me) need to shut the fuck up, dry up their fucking tears, and move on. Fucking hell, I hate Quebec

SINGLE GREATEST EDIT EVER!!!:

Apparantly the Ontario Teachers Union is FINALLY selling off it’s controlling share in the Leafs!!! They just announced it during the start of the second period

That news is so INSANELY good!!!

edit #2: Apparantly they’re selling 66% of their shares in MLSE, for the low low price of $1.3 billion dollars

sorry to double post, but can anybody pm me a site to lemme stream the leafs game today? No Leafs TV where I’m at :frowning:

well your not really thinking about getting smashed into the divider when you are in that situation and jumping to avoid hits kind of is a natural reaction. So there’s really no fault to him at all. Chara on the other hand…it didn’t look like a dirty hit. But i’ve been there before…i’ve smashed guys into that divider on purpose, so who knows if he saw it there and made the effort or if he just went for the hit and it happened.

Yeah. I play in an adult league with no contact. It sucks but its kinda good too. You don’t have to worry about getting clocked but alot of the times I would normally take the body, I can’t.

I really need to up my puck handling skills. I think my skating, shooting, passing, etc is all fairly good but I can’t really dangle or control the puck to where I’m breaking peoples ankles.

lol you need a water bottle?

Anywho, I need Tampa Bay to fuck up Carolina tonight, and the Leafs better damn well win tomorrow.

3 points out of the last playoff spot. I will literally shit a blue and white turd the size of Harold Ballard if we make the playoffs.

GET HYPE???

Going to Nashville vs. DalAss tomorrow F YEAH
