Galloping Ghost Arcade and Medina4Life present:
Windy City Showdown Tournament

Thursday, October 27th: Halloween Havoc

Galloping Ghost Arcade
9415 Ogden Avenue
Brookfield, IL 60513

The Tournaments: Three will be held, in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Mortal Kombat 9.

The Setups: PLEASE BRING EQUIPMENT! If you have a system, game disc, monitor, or cables and you can bring them to the event, please do. We want to make sure we have enough set-ups for both the tournament matches as well as casuals. Be sure to bring your own stick or pad as well.

The Systems: SSF4: AE and MvC3 will be held on both systems, but stream matches will be held only on XBox 360. Please be prepared to have to play matches on both systems, especially the 360 since it’s more common and will be preferred for those two games. If your controller only permits you to play on one system, please inform the tournament organizer when you sign up for the tournament. MK9 will be held almost entirely on PS3, including the stream, with the 360 only used in case of overflow and if both players agree to it.

The Price: Entry is $5 per tournament you enter plus a $5 venue fee. Venue fee should be paid to the front desk upon entering Galloping Ghost Arcade. The tournament entry fee should be paid upon signing up for entry into the bracket(s).

The Payout: All tournaments will pay 70/20/10 for top 3 finishers, plus a bonus $5 (for 16-31 entrants) or $10 (for 32 or more entrants) each to all top 4 finishers.

The EVEN NEWER UPDATED Schedule:
3:30 pm - Venue doors open
5:30 pm - Most people arrive
6:30 pm - Sign-up starts for all tournaments
8:00 pm - MK9 tournament begins
8:00 pm - SSF4 tournament begins
9:15 pm - MvC3 tournament begins

Early Sign-up: If you do not think that you will be able to make it to the venue on time or you would just prefer to have your name entered early, please notify the tournament organizer ahead of time (see below) so you will be entered into the bracket.

The Volunteers: We will need volunteers to help out with the duty of running brackets. Please contact the tournament organizer (see below) if you are willing to volunteer. Take note that if you are entered into a tournament, you will not be permitted to run the bracket for that tournament unless there is another volunteer–possibly also entered into the same tournament–available to assist you.

The Rules: All tournaments are double elimination. Matches are best 2 out of 3 games format. After a game, the losing player may change his character(s). The winning player play may not change his character(s), though he may change his Ultra (in SSF4) or his assists (in MvC3). Grand finals will be best 3 out of 5 games. In SSF4: AE, Blanka’s 3rd alternate costume is banned. In Mortal Kombat, Kratos and [S]Freddy Krueger[/S] the Street Stage are banned. Also for Mortal Kombat, all Kombat Kodes are banned except for No Blood (900 900), which is encouraged. PS3 Dualshock Wireless controllers are permitted only with a connecting cord and with the understanding that they must remain off when they are not being used. If any irregularities or disputes occur, the players involved should attempt to resolve them among themselves. If they cannot, only then may it be referred to the tournament organizer.

The Stream: Stream will be provided by Medina4Life, www.justin.tv/medina4life.

If you have any questions or concerns about the event, please contact one of the tournament organizers.

Hope to see everyone there. Let’s have a real good time.

Apparently Freddy Krueger is fixed, so he’s no longer banned from tournament play. I forgot to include the Street Stage on the contraband list originally so it’s there now.

One more change, and it’s a pretty big one.

Due to the larger numbers of younger people who attend the tournament for MK instead of the Capcom games (and the overall smaller number of total entrants), I’m swapping the schedule around so that MK will be the first tournament to start at 8:00. Marvel will start shorty after, if not simultaneously, and AE will begin just over an hour later.

If this is especially unpopular amongst many people (or just Scrimps) I will revert to the old schedule. Otherwise, I think this schedule will be better both for both the attendees and the stream.

I’d suggest running AE at the same time as MK (Or maybe a staggered half hour after). MK doesn’t get as many entrants and there is like one player who plays both games.

MK can run on like 3 systems and still run fine. Just my opinion.

Why is it still only $5 per game?

  1. There’s already a $5 venue fee.
  2. Figure that weekday tournaments should be less expensive than tournaments held on weekends.
  3. Everybody in Chicago is broke, it seems.

Good points. Just wondering though. It would be easier to convince Marcus to drive us out there if there was a bigger pot. Otherwise, even if we both take 1st and 2nd, the gas money to go out there plus eat isn’t even covered.

Either way, good luck to all who play

=/ Tubo would be an excellent SF4/MvC3 commentator since we don’t have anyone with hype AND knowledge.

I’ll definitely consider it for the next tournament then.

Certainly true. For this week though, I was hoping that some combination of BP and Humbag could handle commentary for SSF4, and you and Ronaldo for MvC3.

Thanks Hero!!

Be sure to post the link to the stream on the Chicago thread. I’ll at least stream monster it up!!

I made another quick change to the schedule.

I decided to take Hiro’s advice, since there are usually 2 entrants for both MvC3 and MK compared to generally 1 for MK and Street Fighter, and swap the start times for Street Fighter and Marvel 3. AE will now start with MK at 8:00, MvC3 will start a little over an hour later.

Thanks for understanding.

Ugh, if I commentate MvC3 it’ll sound like this

‘Yo that was fucking dumb. Ugh, do a better combo. Dropping combos? At this life in the game? Fucking terrible. He’s gonna do a double overhead-Damnit I said he was gonna do a double overhead and you go and block low’

I get mad when I commentate MvC3. I’ll try and keep it kosher and level headed.

That’s why I figure you can do it with Ronaldo. That way, instead of getting angry about how people are playing the match, you two can argue about Wolverine combos and how frequently they are dropped.

In reality, amongst the people who might be there, BP and Humbag would probably be best for commentating both Capcom games. Hopefully both can make it.

Make 16 bit commentate MK while you’re at it. Talk about WCW all match. Forget that was grand finals.

That’s a given. He and I are going to discuss European geography on stream.

O god… Hey if it’s a possibility could someone help me run stream during MK? It’s real easy but it’ll just be in 5 or so min periods because I want to play MK. If not it’s cool, I won’t play.

If I’m not playing I’ll do it. I’m sure Flying V or someone would jump in and help out. It isn’t too hard IIRC. It’s just changing names and phasing transitions.

rare chance ill make it

DAY OF TOURNAMENT REMINDER, PLEASE BRING EQUIPMENT TO GGA TONIGHT!

I’ve also decided that in order to have an incentive, I will raffle off something that I have picked up in my travels to those who bring monitors or systems. It will be a good prize, I promise, and it will include a gift card as well.
