[Oct 20, 2012] Trial of Nightmare! <P4U/TTT2U> (Rochester, New York)

 “The fiend passes judgment on enemies that are locked away…”

Welcome once again to Rochester’s tournament series: Trial of Nightmare.

Trial of Nightmare works to illuminate Rochester’s competitive fighting scene by offering a rotating menu of 2D and 3D fighters, with each event featuring one game from each family.

Saturday, October 20th – The next Trial of Nightmare will feature our next set of two games: Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited. Please arrive promptly to receive all applicable beatdowns. Come out and come hungry.

Venue Information
Bamboo Room, Student-Alumni Union
Rochester Institute of Technology
1 Lomb Memorial Drive
Rochester, New York 14623

This is one of the many available rooms in RIT’s student union. The particular room for the tournament may be subject to change, so please pay attention to any notifications regarding the venue. Any and all ruffians and/or pelicans will be hastily removed from the event.

Sign-ups begin: 2:00 p.m.
Brackets begin: 3:00 p.m.
Event ends in full: 9:00 p.m.

The event is on a Saturday afternoon and begins promptly at 3:00 p.m. with the entire thing being over with at 9:00 p.m… While we may be able to stay in the SAU until as late as midnight, I would like for a conscious effort to be made regarding getting this tournament done swiftly. Your consideration for our schedule is greatly appreciated.

Venue fee: $0
P4U entry fee: $5
TTT2U entry fee: $5

The entry fees are starting modestly to give players a chance to come out and experience these great fighting games. To aid in this effort, we are abolishing the venue fee with the hopes of getting kids up and out of their basements and back into the community to play some games and catch up with friends.

How Tag Teams Work: The Tekken Tag Tournament 2 event is designed to be a pair play event. Similar to Street Fighter x Tekken, we will be using USB 2.0 hubs for newer PS3s (The XBox 360 and original PS3 do not require USB hubs as far as I’m aware). Please find a partner for your team and register together. Please practice tag mechanics (you don’t have to practice together, although that would be optimal) to familiarize yourself with the game in a partner-based situation. If you do not have a partner at the time of the event, I will work with you to pair you with other partnerless players. Let’s make this a fun team event!

Special Events: If we have any time left after the tournament, we may do a Persona 5v5 Team Exhibition or a Tekken Tag 2 Team Exhibition. We will discuss this more on game day.

Timeliness: Please show up on time. Please be ready for your matches on time. The tournament will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m… DQing a player will be the first option barring any emergencies. Please contact me for questions or to notify me of an emergency if you will be late due to an emergency. I will not promote tardiness.

Disqualification Notice: Any rule which involves a DQ will be a full tournament disqualification. Not a round, not a game and not a set. You will be removed from the tournament completely. Please be sure to avoid any unnecessary heartbreak by being prepared at all times.

Our efforts cannot be complete without help from the community. Please being any setups we can use for play: this includes monitors, systems and sticks. If you can help by bringing a system, please be sure to bring one wired controller to use for interfacing with the system. No matter what you bring, please mark your belongings in order to prevent confusion and/or theft.

Thank you for your time and please look forward to this great event. There are many things in the works for Rochester’s fighting scene, but none of those things can be successful without the backing of the players. Please come out and support your scene!

I’ll bring a PS3 setup w/ TTT2 and I have a USB hub as well.

 As usual, your kindness is appreciated.

 Of course, this happens to be on Brick City weekend. All of my rage.

This will probably be shifting to the 13th once I get some confirmation.

If its on the 13th ill be there for sure, just warning you

13th and 20th both work for me nicely, so I’ll be there.

Do we have a room or are we taking that upstairs spot?

P4 stages have names?!

 We will most likely have one of the large conference rooms downstairs if we can’t get the Bamboo Room.

And yes, they have names.

I’ll be there for P4A; I’m also having company over in the evening so I’ll probably have to bail once I get knocked out. As long as we get the show on the road at a reasonable hour and proceed with due haste, it shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

 This is looking to be a small event, so starting on time will not be a problem. Less people to DQ.

i will die laughing if i win the tournament because everybody else gets dqed

 I would enjoy that particular scenario.

I know you guys can’t wait, but I’d love to come play some tekken. I’ll bring my finest pair play partner for some good ol’ Buffalo vs Rochester shenanigans.

try not to hate on me too hard before I get there

Whatever hate is left, I’ll have them save it for Tekken. What are you guys playing now?

Our game days… Pretty mixed bag of everything, unfortunately a lot of super casuals in the mix, not a whole lot of competitive fire going around these days. Marvel and SF still get a regular crowd, KoF and P4 have consistent players showing up, Tekken gets a good number of people due to newness, SC is on life support… any interest in MK, Skullgirls, DOA, VF and BB have pretty much gone extinct amongst active players in the area.

I’m sure you are excited to get your hands on +R though, eh Gary? I can’t wait to try to get back to an acceptable level in GG, it’s been wayyy too long.

I’ll check it out, but I’m riding out P4. You can get away with more dumb stuff in P4 but I’m lovin’ it. GG’s player base would be even lower too.

Hmm all my tag ‘partners’ are flaking out atm, i will try and scrape someone together before saturday but it’s looking like 40/60 on actually making it. By chance do you have any Jack players that would team up with a lowly Buffalo player? (either jack is fine)

Should come for P4!

i’ve never even played it.

and looks like a no go on me coming anyways. see you guys at dustbowl i guess :frowning:

 Thanks so much everyone for coming out!

We had a much higher turnout than expected and the event was extremely fun, given the limited resources we had.

We’ve even gotten a few new members into the fold! Such a good day for ROC, I think.

Special thank you to Greg and Niles for playing and smiling the entire way through even though this wasn’t your game–it’s that kind of gung ho attitude that keeps get togethers like this fun.
