I just checked out Ragnagard. Forget ugly, that godawful music makes it unbearable.
Thank you so much for posting all of these! I completely forgot about those gore fighters Time Killers and Blood Storm! I believe both used to be at some pizza place I went to, or the mall arcade back in the day. I remember me and all the kids would just watch people play so we could see the characters explode into blood and bones with ridiculous movesâŚgood times.
While some (or most) players didnât like the idea of a Block button for defending. I like how you can do a short range, quick attack while blocking. At least they tried something different.
This game should have been named WORST OF WORST!
Itâs pretty bad. Not to mention, many of the characters are Knock Offs from other games. Just look at the character Tom, his intro animation is 100% Keith Wayne from Power Instinct!
Hereâs a picture I took/snapped from the games opening:

Btw, nice find crayfish!
Wasnât sure if someone already posted about this one:
Itâs a 1996 Korean arcade fighter from Viccom, which was also released on the 3DO. Here is a vid of the 3DO version in action: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VuVP7DHhgWc
Thank god they decided not to call Tia, âShelley Tarlarâ. What a *horrible *name.
P.S. Nice to see this thread alive again.
Best of Best is full of epic luz, starting with using Lambada as background music!
good stuff.
Yesterday the Obscure list made it on to all round top 2d and obscurita gaming news site âInsert Creditâ after I emailed them concerning thier recent post about âEye of Typhoonâ.

Hopefully this will bring in some good outside info to the thread. Thanks again to Nebuloso and everyone for all the input.
Heh, cool. I need to re-do all my emu stuff, lost my last HD with all my music and everything⌠I was liking Kaiser Knuckle, need to go get that again.
Ha, how did I miss this thread for 2 years? Iâve played just about every single game mentioned in this thread, many before they were emulated. Thatâs not bragging, more lamenting the fact. I probably donât need to tell you how terrible some of them are.
Since I didnât see this one mentioned, anyone played Battle Heat? Not a MAME game but since it is emulated on ME-FX I think it qualifies as an emulated fighter. The look might bring back bad memories of non-interactive FMV games but itâs actually very good and controls pretty close to an actual fighter.
I remember reading about Battle Heat in Gamefan magazine (r.i.p), and it was the only reason I wouldâve bought a PC-FX. I know pretty .

Kaiser Knuckle was a pretty solid fighter. I liked the Lightning and Fire zone concept, and I love how you could slowly destroy the backgrounds.

When you get your emu back, try the prototype Dan-Ku-Ga, itâs pretty much a Champion Edition upgrade for Kaiser Knuckle that was never released.
I really wanted to like Dan-Ku-Ga, for a fighter of the period itâs pretty polished, but the ridiculously long throw invincibility after block/hitstun and the dearth of combos (few cancellable normals + specials have long startup) means it really fails to fulfill its potential.
Why have I not seen Survival Arts mentioned? That game was laughably terrible. Everyone had one special move, which was a dash punch/kick except for one guy with a flamethrower and bombs that did realistic damage.
Great thread. Asura Blade has been a long time âobscure favouriteâ of mine. Great to see it getting some air time here.
I canât believe this thread is now 8 pages (and 2 years) long, and nobody has mentioned MAWS:
http://www.mameworld.net/maws/
Unlike other sites, MAWS isnât human-updated. It generates itâs information from the XML output of the MAME binary, which includes a VERY detailed database of all the game information stored inside MAME. Coupled with matching outputs from the various info projects (cheat, history, HITF12, etc) it makes for a very up to date database of anything contained within MAME. Updates occur a few days after each MAME sub-release, so itâs always at the bleeding edge.
You can link to games via their ROM name, like such:
http://www.mameworld.net/maws/romset/asurabld
And you can get a Mozilla Firefox search plugin for it here:
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.html?name=maws&sherlock=yes&opensearch=yes&submitform=Search
MAME is about a whole lot more than just playing games. It is in and of itself an entire game museum, packed so full of information about various games itâs not funny. MAWS leverages that to make a very user-friendly yet deep web frontend to search all the information contained within MAME. MAWS is still my first port of call when I hear about a game for the first time, long before I look up KLOV, Caesar, or any of the other sites.
Awesome thread. Crayfish rocks.
I wouldnât mind seeing Taito finishing DKG, as I liked the Fire and Lightning zone idea. And if you break the prototype down more, youâll notice Taito was enhancing the combo engine with a juggle-type system.
And something that feels kinda like the Step technique found in Dark Legend, is the ability to do a jumping attack (whether if your opponent blocks or not) and being able to jump again.
Iâm not sure if this fighter Last Apostle Puppet Show (Reika Doushi) has been mentioned yet?
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8385
Plus it features this!!:
That is one of (if not) the best command throw in a fighting game!
I like how the General circles the Earth!
And remains alive.
Wow THE EYE OF TYPHOON(3DO) looks really cool and retro.
Does anyone think the last boss of Power Instinct Legends is super chonaki weird : P lol
