I wonder how many Super Fingers Wright can loop before HSD wears out…has anyone tested that?
Hey CTG, can we expect an OP udate soon?
I’m pretty sure having played about 7-10 matches with Wright that certain pieces of evidence (autopsy, vase, cellphone, knife, etc. are good) and servbot, plunger, bottle, etc. always bad.
It worries me that a lot of people are claiming that they played PW at NYCC and found him to be worthless. Maybe I’m just being paranoid because I don’t want to get burned again like I did with Tron and Chun…
Huh? Didn’t a Wright player win the NYCC tournament?
Also, how could you possibly get burned with Tron? You’d be the one burning others with that assist.
Dunno, I heard that the guy who won one or two of the tourneys there did it with Wright on point. Besides, they’ve probably only played him five or so times, which is hardly enough to gauge how good a character is.
When I get confirmation certain pieces are always bad, then yes. Right now that could be a result of it being random as Seth said it was.
He’s likely referring to how Tron overall seems to have gotten nerfed for UMVC.
Did he? I’m not sure. I’m just saying what I’ve heard from people who were (supposedly) at NYCC.
As for Tron…I play her on point in Vanilla and plan to do so in Ultimate. But her nerfs are really bleak, she looks like she might be the worst in the game, or close. Sadly, Chun has a similar fate, despite being blegh in Vanilla to begin with.
People played a character that’s plays nothing else like anyone we’ve ever seen a handful of times, they call him worthless and you take them seriously.
Really?
Don’t overreact. I don’t give it a weight of thought.
I thought Chun was one of the few characters that got a flat out damage boost
Anyways, I think right now my team is Nick/Haggar/Doom
Even though it’s nerfed I think Lariat is gonna be a huge help for Nick, and both Hidden Missiles and Doom Beam are awesome for Nick and Haggar.
edit: possibly Nova instead of Doom because he looks really fun and also has the stuff needed for a good anchor, just not sure about his assists
Maximilian said on GAF that one of the teams he’s been working with is a Wright (Get 'em Missile) / Doom (Hidden Missiles) / Strider (Varja) team. According to him he thinks Wright is definitely tourney viable, but his biggest problem is that he lacks any proper way to handle airborne incoming opponents. Assists for the air, Maya for the ground basically.
I really can’t wait for that Ultimate Assist Me video.
supposedly, low finger doesn’t hit low. does evidence gathering hit low? does he even have a low? if you can just stand block against him all day, then…
I meant an OP update in general with more detailed information.
Yes, Wright has lows with his crouching attacks, Maya assist, etc.
Assist info is there and I’m not going to post something obvious like his crouching attacks hit low - but I have beenmplanning to update with a more clean, detailed summary of how he works and things like that.
I am the PW player that was up on the big screen winning a good number of matches. And yes I did win the Friday UMvC tourney, but not with Phoenix Wright(I used my MvC3 team for that). Anyway, at most I was only able juggle 4 standing turnabout standing fingers. After that they would flip out too high for the standing finger to hit.I also tried judge super after 4 standing fingers, completely whiffed.
I don’t think that any evidence can be either good or bad evidence since the same evidences i kept getting were consistently good or bad. I think in turnabout mode his evidence lasers are better, though I’ve only used the cell-phone(multi-lock) one in turnabout mode. I’m not sure about this because three balls would shoot out of the evidence, and even before the multi-lock lasers shoot out another three would come out of the cell phone. So it was either an effect of turnabout mode or I was just able to use it repeatedly. I could not figure out how to do Phoenix Wright’s jump cancelable normal.
For assists, Doom was an easy choice for Hidden missiles, but for the second assist I wanted an OTG assist at first. A lot of OTG assists I was thinking of were too slow, so i used Deadpool and Wesker. Later on I felt that PW needed a low hitting assist so I just went with Wesker all day Sunday. I haven’t tried it out yet, but I wanted to see if I could pull off an unblockable setup with Maya super and Wesker assist.
Overall, PW is a fun character to play as, but his normals don’t have good range and I can’t tell when I could block after a move because the animation is so long.
i ask because his overall toolset is just too much. 950K health (where this is comparatively above average now), an unscaled full screen 600K lvl3, maya shield, gather evidence hitbox, present evidence projectiles (or w/e), FINGER!, turnabout mode lasting 20 seconds, a good dash, etc. if anyone thinks the “randomness” of evidence gathering is gonna be weak enough to mean anything, they’re in for some very unpleasant ass-beatings by this character and his team.
seth agrees that he’s a genuine powerful character, but IIRC, i remember someone saying he said something along the lines of “we’ll see if pw turns out to be the best character in the game, or the worst”. i’m not really seeing how this character could be anywhere close to being the worst or even low tier with his currently known toolset unless he has some unintuitive weaknesses (like no normal move lows for example). but i just rewatched some vids, and yes, it does look like he has normal move lows.
maybe the supposed day 1 patch will reduce something about him (lvl3 damage, health), because right now, phoenix wright is looking…
GROSS.
It sounds to me like he has a lot of tools but nowhere to go with them. High damage output is great, but if you never land a confirm, what’s the point? A huge portion of Marvel is having mobility and mixups, and Nick lacks both of those. If Turnabout Mode can be entirely shut down with a simple neutral block, it’s looking pretty bleak.
First post updated. If anything is wrong (and you have proof - please no theories) let me know. If you have anything to add, please quote this post and tell me.
In the S-Kill video (Do you want me to provide the actual video?), he said that PW has one special in Investigation. QCF+A calls out the Maya shield. QCF+B or QCF+C makes Maya do her slide. C slide goes farther than B.
Stance change from Investigation to Courtroom and vice-versa is Down, Down + S. You don’t need all of the right evidence to do so.
Thanks. No vid link required - I was just unsure if he had access to the paper shuffling thing in Investigation. Thx!
