This. I don’t know where all the cries of cheapness are coming from, he’s nowhere as newbie-friendly as Dark Phoenix spam was. I only talked to two players at NYCC who could reliably gather evidence and hit the level 3.
Does he have potential to be an unholy terror in the hands of pro players? Absolutely. But until we start locking down solid tech for getting past investigation mode and get deeper frame data on his normals, I think we’ll be just fine.
If only two players could reliably gather evidence that just says how bad the other players were not how hard it is… Seriously its pretty quick and brain dead easy. Maya shield Assist dig x3 toss junk rinse wash repeat.
^^this. of some of the matches i watched on one of the streams (forget which) people were just jumping around all over not even trying to gather evidence. do they not have a movelist at these events?
If it’s anything like other events Capcom shows fighting games at, the list they give you shows three special attacks per character; normally one of them is a hyper combo. Chances are that gathering evidence was not one of the moves they gave out. D;
While I see how getting the right evidence is pretty damn easy, the claims of brokenness assume that getting an Objection! in and going into Turnabout Mode will be cake. Smart players will learn how to keep away a Phoenix Wright with three pieces of good evidence.
Wright can actually combo into ‘Objection!’ pretty nicely with assists. That NYCC player was using Katanarama to get it after a magic series. His normals look kind of bad for starting combos though…
The problem with this logic is Phoenix Wright with three pieces of Good Evidence is a good Keep away character… so you will want to be in his face … the problem with that however is… (yup you guessed it) OBJECTION!!!
I’m sorry, but I don’t think this is correct. From the walkthrough, Seth says that good evidence changes from match to match. All 15 pieces can be good evidence and all 15 can be bad evidence. It depends on which items the computer chooses at the beginning of the match.
Afraid not. Since they just announced them, they didn’t have a moves list for Phoenix Wright and Nova at all. Any tech people had for him at NYCC was preliminary info from Seth’s breakdown the day before, word of mouth, and sheer guesswork.
It was even worse at the SFxT booths. They didn’t have move lists for characters announced with Kuma and later, which is probably why I suspect you saw people on the SFxT streams choosing mostly familiar SF characters, along with maybe the occasional Kazuya or Hwoarang.
It was difficult to see exactly what happened, but it was Iron Fist’s Fist-O-Fury Hyper, DHC’d into Gamma Crush. I don’t think Iron Fist landed the entire hyper on her, but it did hit.
This sounds amazing to me. Doom is my favorite character in MvC3, and my goal is to have a team with him and Wright on it in UMvC3.
Also, I think Doom is going to fantastic with Wright not just to help him collect evidence, but because he can assist him with a ton in general. Of course he helps with evidence lockdown. He looks to work great with Wright’s type of zoning. If the missiles hit and you’ve got your evidence, it should be an easy confirm into an Objection. He can keep them pinned down for Wright’s fingers of doom. Missiles can be an OTG in itself, or will probably work great with Maya’s OTG.
Everything is working out perfectly for me…too perfectly…
Hate to quote myself, but what this means is that players have to think on their feet when in Courtroom mode. Gonna have to at least be familiar with what each does.
Err well I don’t think I’d main him but I love his style.:3
his style reminds me so much of Dan’s in mvc2, the way he throws papers at you and all.
Joke character or not, this guy is for real.
After just watching gameplay, I agree Wright will make alot of people change it up against him, but i defintly think that he is not going to be overpowered. So far it looks like the biggest problems will be anything that can get past miyas shields, and teleporters.
