OBJECTION! - The Phoenix Wright Thread

Can a similar combo to the Ammy/Frank combo work with Dante/Frank?

Thx dude, and yeah ammy and dante have similar tools and combos the only difference is you won’t be able to get frank to lvl 4 without that slowdown gimmick. Replacing dante for ammy in the frank combo I suggest two things.

  1. you can get frank to lvl 3 if the combo ends in the corner with OitC dhc to devil trigger then hard tag in frank and take a picture or burn a thc for lvl 5
  2. you can end Wright’s portion of the combo with a thc instead of OitC and fix up evidence for a turnabout if you choose.

Basically without a ton of meter lvling frank and getting to turnabout within one combo is mutually exclusive, but again both ammy and dante have excellent tools to assist both characters making for some really good synergy.

that was an awesome vid, i never thought of hard tagging to wright after devil trigger to plink again.

I just realized:

Maya Instant DHC to Install Super (Armor, Devil Trigger, Ammy Slow, etc.) into raw tag = Objection. I think, anyway.

Well if you have a full set of evidence and you land maya smelting it makes more sense (and is actually possible) to land objection right there without a dhc. If u dhc into maya smelting then yes you will have enough time to get a free objection assuming u have evidence.

Install dhcs make much more sense after OitC; from there you have a few options:

  1. X-factor OitC without dhcing for raw objection
  2. Perform dhc install swag (sword/lightning loops, etc.)
  3. Hard tag back to wright, H Maya slip (plink optional) into thc, or x factor cancel maya early to land objection

Now that plinking is a thing, do you think it’s better to hang back and play the old keep-away game, or go in and try to plink-combo evidence gather?

Wright’s strength lies in his passive aggressive neutral game; plinking lets him build evidence without having to sacrifice damage, and can make calling maya safer. Imo it helps his Investigation game flow faster and smoother, but won’t accomplish much after that so best stick to your game plan and make the most out of any opportunities.

I personally would still argue keepaway. Wright should definitely try to plink when he has a combo already going, but he doesn’t have the tools to really rush down and open opponents up. He still has poor mobility and mediocre low range normals so the only way he is really going to open anyone up in investigation mode is if they come to him and make a mistake like getting into his very good grab range or attacking the Maya shield head on.

heres a tourney i was at this past weekend, the first 3 matches are of my right team, chris/wright/coon
i pretty much got cocky i tried to make a show, and got vergiled for it. last match i changed teams due to salt :stuck_out_tongue:

i would like personal opinons please

vergil is my kryptonite

my gawd if ppl want to beat chris g, please pik wright

Well, since it’s Vergil, I’d think you’d want to have a character with log assist behind him to deal with XFC3 teleports or dashes. Other than that, it’s anchor Vergil. Not gonna get easier to fight any time soon, Wright or not.

Other than you fighting Vergil, my only question is why you switch to RR? I know XFC3 TBWright can get stuff done, but I’d think TBWright + Log would be better. You seem to be good enough with RR to have him on anchor.

i dont like log with dante, since he gets better benifit off of spitfite,
and against vergil just need some incoming mix ups off a snap back against him.
i messed up by letting lvl 3 vergil happen

Eh it happens, lvl 3 Vergil is pretty much the equivalent of what everyone thought Wesker was early game lol. I thought you played very well despite everything. I suppose the only advice I would give on your Wright is a couple things. Firstly, granted this may just be a preference thing to save turnabout, but I noticed that right after you got the kill on Morrigan in the first game you immediately hardtagged PW out for Raccoon. You probably know this already but PW has an extremely hard to escape from unblockable which is particularly effective on incoming. Thanks to the low hit at the end of his Maya smelting hyper, if you get someone to block the hyper standing they are history as a well timed jumping H will lead into a free meterless ToD. I would have kept Wright in and set up the unblockable for Doom if I was in your situation. As I said however, I understand that you were probably saving Turnabout time by opting to switch out which is smart in its own right. The only other thing I noticed was in one of the matches you did an order in the court to counter Vergil’s shoryuken-like move. You then x-factored and went for Objection but the combo dropped. This technically does work, but it is a very tight link and when I land a random OITC X-factor mode change, I generally go for either his standing H-Illuminating point-Objection or a simple S-Objection. Since his normals have significantly less startup than raw Objection getting these to connect after the hyper is much easier and I would reccommend doing so especially in the heat of a tournament match where you are prone to dropping combos due to nerves. Anyway like I said I was impressed, I thought you did very well especially when you consider that your opponent was using arguably one of if not the, strongest teams in the current metagame. Keep it up, Wright needs more good players entering tournaments with him!

ha im pretty sure lvl 3 vergil is the equivalent to dark phoenix in vanilla,
also i hard tagged wright since a flight character was coming out, they can escape the unblockable, and im pretty sure it can be chicken guarded. it will only work if you catch the opponet on the ground.
yea and i couldve killed vergil that one time, but i wanted to go fancy haha. i pretty much has the rounds won :stuck_out_tongue:
i hate it while im incoming, and vergil like throws roundharvest and does like a double dash under cross up followed by the round harvest then assist. so stupid.
i also noticed with morrigan, if she chooses to go in with th e soul fists, just plink or wave dash under the fireballs, along with maya, youll lose a little chip, while basically getting alll the evidence.

Well yes, they have an easier time avoiding it, but keep in mind you can throw out other things to force them to block. All you really need is to get your opponent to block it standing, pretty much everything PW has in turnabout has ridiculous amounts of frame advantage so after a kill if you throw some of your evidence projectiles especially the folder which has ridiculous blockstun and when they come in throw paper work, the finger, even press the witness and you see your opponent’s feet hit the ground, cancel into Maya smelting and they are dead. Granted pushblocking makes it a little difficult to perform but you would be surprised how often I have been able to catch fliers with the unblockable by simply putting on some pressure before hand. It is never a guaranteed thing I suppose but I usually go for it. Lol ya Vergil’s mixups are frustrating. My Achilles heel in this matchup is when he teleports in front of me and then uses raw rapid slash lol. I see the teleport so I automatically block crossup and right when it dawns on me that he is in front and I block normal again he crosses me up with rapid slash XD.

What’s the best way to punish someone running up to grab you through Maya Shield?

On an unrelated note, are the notations back?

:qcf: :l:

Grab them instead :stuck_out_tongue:

Notations are back.
What you can do is hold backwards and press H so that if they go for a grab, you’ll tech, if you’re in grab range, you’ll land it if they don’t commit to the grab, and if they just stand there H is safe and can cancel into evidence fast enough that it doesn’t ruin your investigation flow.

you can also stance change

Watching that Polt match, it really shows how important plinking is. Every Maya call should be - needs to be - an evidence grab. Every confirm needs to snag at least one piece of evidence. Otherwise, pressure can and will just shut you out of evidence.

Plinking is something people will have to grow into. I can’t count how many times in training mode doing plinks, thinking about how easy it is, but never actually do it in a real match. I just feel like it’s not going to work or I’m being greedy. Eventually people will start using it, especially after Polt’s set last night.

Speaking of which, great job Poltergust. Had a whole Skype group rooting for you, that was amazing play. o3o d
