Obama Wants Mandatory Voting

The irony in this is that this thread is about Obama wanting to make voting mandatory, highlighting that voter turnout is only 30 percent. You honestly think Americans can get organized for a revolution if there is such low participation in the process of electing a government? People obviously don’t care enough to get involved.

I have mixed feelings, ppl these days are barely sentient. Perhaps being forced to vote may cause them to peruse the subjects being voted on.

One reason I’m torn is because I can’t help but wonder if the disdain for the 2 main parties would lead forced voters to go for a third party, in Australia, however, forced voting hasn’t yielded that much.

Their parliament got 10 seats filled by a third party (Green), but the 2 majorities mirror our (Im a US cit) Republican and Democratic parties. Then again, the disdain with us is greater. A part of me really wants to see what happens when 3/4 of a population that hates its two primary parties is forced to vote. Maybe the FnP, Green, Libertarian, etc will get some love.

@Chadouken People don’t care to vote because they have no faith or trust in politicians and the political process. Now I know my strengths and weaknesses. So I know I don’t have the smarts and charisma to start such a revolution, lead it and execute it with effective forms of protest like during the Civil rights movement. But if someone who could do the job and is committed to the cause could get the ball rolling, I’ll be right by your side protesting along side ya and following your lead

Congratulations, you’ve read some basic history and you can use the Internet. So, I can assume you’re at least 8. Now go read about some real revolutions like French Revolution and the Russian revolution and the nice friendly people that they brought into power.

Get a clue before the person you’re hoping for comes along and makes you his useful idiot.

K am done.

Nah. He’s just being real. That picture is accurate as fuck when it comes to describing elections and the voting system in America.
The game is rigged but no one seems to care.

The close-minded ones are the ignorant sheeple of America who are gullible enough to believe that the voting system works in America.
It doesn’t.
If a President gets assassinated for saying too much and not following orders, then that’s proof that voting is useless.

If people don’t care enough to get organized for a revolution, then the only alternative is abject and ABSOLUTE slavery.
The Founding Fathers KNEW that America would be have to fight for its freedom someday. That time is now.
That’s why they gave Americans guns and the 2nd amendment. To protect themselves from all invaders ― foreign and domestic

The 2nd American Revolution is around the corner. Americans better be prepared to fight for their freedom or be enslaved by these fucktards in power. The very ones that the Sheeple of America have elected.
The choice is yours.

French Revolution was started by the Illuminati (at that time, they were called the “Jacobins”).
Russian Revolution was started in order to eliminate the entire Romanov dynasty. This was in part due to the whole Rasputin-Alexandra fiasco, involving her hemophiliac son Alexei.
Either way, both the French and Russian Revolution were orchestrated by the Secret Societies of the world.
The American Revolution was also orchestrated by Secret Societies. The majority of the Founding Fathers were Freemasons after all.

America gave the British a lot of chances to give them a break and the British didn’t do it. That’s a big reason why the American Revolution happened.

Slavery could have EASILY been abolished through voting and it was, in Congress. The South decided to be the kid who cries when he loses and takes his ball home. Granted, it was a trillion dollar industry so it would have up-ended their whole economy but still. Many Northern states made due without having slaves anymore and they did fine.

From what I recall about segregation, it came from a specious reading of the 14th Amendment. And yes, it was also voted down. Sure, people gathered up against it but there’s nothing wrong to protesting a law you find unjust. None of them went to war over it, either. Congress passed a number of laws during the time to help close the gap on racial segregation along with the help of the judicial branch.

What else do you have that I can shoot down?

@Razor point being that voting alone didn’t get shit done if the rules were broken. Every example you explained shows how when one side no longer plays by the rules agreed upon, voting on things no longer mean shit. The South and slavery is a perfect example. It was voted that slavery needs to stop, and the south was like “fuck your votes we do what we want, we’re receding”. Effectively making the voting process powerless, thus resulting in more drastic measures having to be taken, I.E civil war. Same shit we’re dealing with today. Our votes don’t really mean shit because those we elect time and time again say “screw the rules I’m in power now” Like Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result”. Shit ain’t gonna change by voting for people who have their best intrest in mind, not the country’s

What a condescending, negative puss you are. Yes not every revolution works out for the best but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. It means we better be damn sure we have a new system to put in place of the old, not just a new leader. If no one could be trusted and everyone was out to manipulate those who follow them, then explain guys like Ghandi and MLK who as far as history shows weren’t perfect, but they were about their causes and were willing to die for them.

niggas are calling for revolution in luxury. What? It hasn’t gotten any where near to the point where a revolution is required at all.

I have absolutely no problem with voting becoming mandatory. It would force the American people to become more aware of the innerworkings of our shitty government and if they do not like where things are headed or what the government is doing, making voting a mandatory measure would give the people, especially those that are usually to lazy or high on that uber-cynical bullshit to go vote, no choice but to get off their asses and VOTE, letting their voices be heard. The idea of mandatory voting could also lead to the people making serious changes as to how the government operates and serves its people as long as we keep the libertarian/teabilly/neo-conservative nutjobs out of the equation.

If there were ever a time where using such a method to be proactive is prudent, now would be a VERY good time.

We can clearly see the country is slowly going to shit. Should we wait until it gets there? Or do something about it now? Because when a country complete hits rock bottom and reaches the levels of El Salvador or Somalia. The peaceful protesting route is no longer viable. Change will only come through sheer force at that point. And protesting while things are still salvageble sounds better than taking up arms after shit hits the fan.

You guys seem to be ignoring the biggest possible gain for the political system here. Looking at this with a low opinion of human nature: Let’s say this becomes a thing, and politicians will continue to care only about gaining and maintaining office. Now there’s a whole new factor to the election process in the expanded voter base who previously didn’t vote. The political machine, which previously didn’t care because you people weren’t going to vote anyway, now has a very obvious reason to do what you want.

For the people going on about the Electoral College, all it really is is each state’s winner is voted for by the representatives of the state (though some split votes proportionally), which only deviates from the popular vote in cases where there is a strong disparity in voting choices between large and small states. It will respond to changes in actual voting behaviors.

I think there’s a problem with that though. I’m guessing that method of voting varies by state. If so, some will use electronic voting machines. How can you be sure that your vote is actually going to your candidate?
Paper ballot solves this problem.

Oh really? Then why does this thread exist?

It shouldn’t exist at all but it does.

You guys are talking about revolution while posting on a forum for fighting games, games which you enjoy regularly. I am sure a lot of you have access to TV, endless food, many women, and internet.

This is like shooting someone for a small offense. Your lives are pretty comfortable, and you notice that not everything is perfect. That doesn’t mean don’t fight for change, but revolution? It has in no, way, shape or for gotten any where near close to the need for revolution. The last time we needed revolution was the 60’s. Simply because you can’t come up with a solution to the problems now, doesn’t mean grab your guns. People trying to sound badass yet i doubt you’d be the one on the streets pulling the trigger anyhow. America isn’t doing Tienanmen square shit to us (yet) so why for the revolution? Because your video games cost a little too much money? lol

This is true but America is heading that way, and it will get there eventually. So you want to wait until it gets that bad, go for it.
The people shouldn’t fire the first shot. The government has to make the first move. So what will be the trigger? How bad does it have to get?

So because I have video games, food, and fat girls, I should just shut up, and ignore my eroding freedoms and rights? I should ignore the mass amount of people in my own country without food, health care, video games, etc?

I think it would be interesting if you got a rebate/discount/etc for voting. It would be nice for politicians to have to worry about how many votes they get, Instead of campaign contributions.

Yes, it’s safe to say that life (for most of us) is comfortable, but it is not difficult find comfort in a society where virtually any and all attempts at upward social mobility for minorities/poor and working class/women/LBGT/immigrants/etc. has been rendered all but impossible, either. Just because one is living a comfortable lifestyle does not mean that things have necessarily changed since the 60s, seeing that institutional racism and de facto segregation have reached violent levels (Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, John Crawford, Tamir Rice to name a few), just like back in the 1960s. It’s up to the people to start taking drastic measures to force change and gain equality, even if it means through a revolution, otherwise things like blatant police brutality, inequality perpetrated by the government, institutional discrimination, among other things will continue, if not get worse.

I think there’s a problem with that though. I’m guessing that method of voting varies by state. If so, some will use electronic voting machines. How can you be sure that your vote is actually going to your candidate?
Paper ballot solves this problem.

Oh no, it’s a given that there are some complications and flaws to the notion, but I would say that given the sociopolitical climate of the country and the people, I’d say that making voting mandatory wouldn’t be such a bad idea, but there needs to be some cohesion in the actual voting process, which is going to be a pain in the ass to enforce, especially in places where state legislature is involved. The good news that where I live (in Alabama, of all places), they still use and tally votes via paper ballots. Not a computer in sight, but to my understanding, there are certain states that vote exclusively through electronic ballots (I’d imagine in places like NY, Chicago, Cali, Washington State).

If you read the post I wasn’t suggesting that you shouldn’t fight for change. However, a revolution would just be bad for everyone. America got really lucky to get off good the first and second tries, but now? That’d be the end of us. It’d be bad for everyone involved so its best it gets solved by other means.
