Obama Wants Mandatory Voting

The government machine doesn’t run on Presidents, it runs on money. A third party candidate can’t do shit, because without support from both houses- who get their money from corporate lobbyists and above-the-law bankers, nothing would get done. Then there are the disinformation campaigns which would ensure that everything remains business as usual.

The corruption runs too deep and wiping away a surface stain does nothing to fix the rot underneath. One can’t oversimplify and use other countries as an example, because their respective mentalities and cultural practices are what make things work, not just the laws themselves. Without a proper foundation, the corruption won’t magically disappear. The core issue is, people are too civilized to get to the root of the problem involving corruption in the US, and prefer scapegoating and looking for feel good solutions that never hit at the heart of anything.

The same President that wanted to indict Snowden, took campaign donations from the same bankers he promised to bring to justice, illegally imprisoned a journalist uncovering the US sanctioned drone strike in Yemen- responsible for the deaths of scores of civilians, vowed to close Guantanamo Bay, and signed the NDAA Act on New Years Eve to avoid roving eyes, has our best interests at heart? This is more about creating a legacy than anything.

Illegal black budget programs which can’t be accessed by Congress, DEA/CIA in league with cartels and fortifying the prison industrial complex, carcinogenic chemicals and deceptive labeling allowed despite the FDA at the helm, NSA unconstitutionally spying on its citizens with no legislative buffer, gerrymandering, cronyism. All these can be nullified by the magical, wondrous act of voting?

People just like the feeling that they have some measure of control over their life, the illusory notion of choice. This delusion is why nothing changes, and voting is the least of the nation’s issues. “Yay I spent 2 hours in line to vote for a candidate that has no fucking chance to win to empower myself and show that I have a voice!” Fuckouttahere…

Australia must have a low number of Orthodox Jews for Saturday voting to not be an issue.

.

Comparatively, yes. There’s a larger population of Christians who, while not prohibited from voting on Sundays would complain that it interferes with their religious observance as well, and although booths are open from 8-6 it’s not done on weekdays to avoid difficulty with people who work full-time. I didn’t say that it was a perfect system, and the bit about avoiding religious conflicts was more about avoiding specific festivals or one-off events. I’m actually not sure what the Orthodox Jewish population does, though I imagine that those who feel voting would violate Shabbat would cast a pre-poll or absentee vote.

make voting a tax write off and you’re only eligible if you vote?

make it a holiday you only qualify for if you show up at the polls

maybe a combination of both? I would just be concerned about service industry jobs that are likely to stay open even on holidays. compare that to a white collar worker who can more easily get a federal holiday off and also get higher holiday pay.

Amazing how some republicans react to this, it is as if they knew that if every American would vote, there wouldn’t be much of a republican presence.
I happen to think so too, but it would be a great, great thing, not just for America, but for the entire world.

And yes, get money out of politics. Also, up the taxes on the wealthy, reduce the INSANE military funds, tax ALL churches, raise overall income for the poor/middle-class, buy out corrupt pharmacies and make potentially temporarily life-saving medicines like cancer drugs and so on affordable to the common person, make healthcare free for all, make universities free for all, and replace those idiotic faith-schools with actual ones that focuses on scientifically backed evidence.

Oh and… BAN THOSE IDIOTS at the Texas State Board of “Education” (read Indoctrination) from the immediate vicinity of actual thinking human beings and their children!

Here’s an article from back in November 2014. Read it and weep. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2014/11/texas-approves-textbooks-with-moses-as-founding-father/

Seriously. Dude’s just trying to gain an overwhelming advantage for the democrat vote. First with amnesty, now this shit (with low-to-no-information voters nearly a guaranteed democrat vote because…“well, they give poor people free shit. They’re helping people, while those evil, rich republicans don’t give ANYTHING away”).

Glad to see some people here realise voting wont make a difference when the system is broken at its foundation. Fuck voting we need a nationwide protest and demand REAL change! Not that bullshit Obama was talking just to get elected. Like all those students in China attempted not to long ago. Sure it failed but they at least tried dammit. Unlike us Americans who have this " It’s not so bad, things could be worst" attitude that keep us complacent and accepting of this joke of a political system we have now. I mean in what other time in American history have politicians been so untrusted, and just viewed with such distain? And yet instead of us the American people overhauling this current political system we clearly despise, we just take it. Why?

In Puerto Rico, election day is a holiday. That’s also the day when we vote for all of the parts of government for the next 4 years. All things considered, it is one of the very few things that country does right.

Is BB Hoody a joke account?

If you got something to say then say it.

I did.

If they force voting I will just vote for whoever non-Democrat non-Republican.

Every revolutionary is a closet aristocrat. Fucktards who think that revolution will solve their countries problems are just being played by someone with a deeper game.

Voting won’t make your problems go away, but its the best way that mankind has come up with. Deal with it.

This is how I feel about this thread and Obama forcing those to vote who would rather have the option of free choice whether to vote or not:

You’re being very close-minded about the whole thing.

dont blame me, i voted for kodos

Thinking of this as a Obama power play does highlight a certain level of fear and paranoia, like just vote the greens or umm. Need a US guy to help me out here who are the other parties you got lol? Last I heard the latinos will become the majority of the US population soon anyway whom are of mostly democratic leaning which to me at least, is of the most delicious irony…

Spoiler

cause of how you guys stole all that mexican land and they just outbreeding yall/jumping fences to take back the whole thing

Not really. All you did was make a passive aggressive sarcastic comment instead of saying whatever it is you really have to say to me.

Oh really? Think the American revolution would’ve happened by voting? Think slavery and segregation would’ve ended by just voting? Voting only works in a system that works. And I think it’s safe to say this political system is broken. And when the system is broken beyond repair, revolution is necessary to overhaul it and replace it with a new one. I’m not saying take up arms or anything ( hopefully it’d never come to that ). Hopefully a nationwide protest would be enough to show washington “Hey we’ve had enough of this shit! Get it together!”
