Of all the black people that could have been propped up to fight the powers that be, it was fuckin OJ. This dude sold out from day one. I do not necessarily blame him for doing so, but he would never have been an advocate for any sort of struggle or injustice out there.
How? He was already in massive debt to the The Cochran Firm. It’s far from fair game, and to say so you are blind to a few things.
The Goldman family always hated O.J., they hated how a successful blackman married a white woman, and that white woman was one of their own clan.
They hated that a blackman could be successful in the first place and how a blackman can get away with marrying a white woman. Basically in long story short the Goldman family is incredibly racist.
They were trying to play OJ like a fiddle from hell, and Juice here performed better than they possibility dreamed. Juice being their pawn played into their hand too well.
Their only hiccup in their plans is OJ getting Acquitted in the criminal case. That much police tampering with the evidence is no mistake, someone been trying to bury OJ. Problem was they went incompetence with the real life version of Phoenix Wright if Phoenix was Black and actually had charisma. Johnny Cochran made that court room his stage, his theater for what should be a Oscar winning performance.
Forget Relentless Force (Fus Ro Dah), Johnny Cochran yelling "OBJECTION" could be, is and should be the greatest Dragon shout of all time.
But because Cochran was such a good lawyer, people think OJ did the deed.
Their is the conspiracy theory that the Goldman family purposely killed Nicole just to ruin OJ who they all hated. And it was no secrete they hated every bit of OJ with every fiber of their being.
This is of course is ignoring how OJ and Nicole’s relationship was like, but with the Goldman family making their own Spin on what happens as the victors are the ones that write history we never know what is really going on behind closed doors.
That’s the problem with these “evidence planting theories”. You regress to endless speculation. If a bank is robbed, any criminal can argue that the cops setup them up. Maybe they switched the videos and added my face to it (police use sophisticated technology), then put guns in my hand to make it look like I robbed the place, I was just minding own business, “I didn’t do nothing”. Those aren’t my drugs, the cops put them in my pockets and car. Why are police accounts for what happened during a traffic stop considered more reliable than everyday citizens?
You need concrete evidence for these type of theories to work in court, speculation just doesn’t fly. The police could argue how do you know it was us that set you up, maybe your enemies did or your best friend to steal girl.
Confusing the Brown family with the Goldman family aside, the Goldman family won the suit and were never paid what they were owed. OJ fled to Florida so his house wouldn’t be seized by debt collectors. If people wanna pull the “in the eyes of the law he good”, then for sure he better pay up on that court order. Regardless, I don’t feel sorry for him that he’s broke. He’s still alive, which can’t be said about the two people he murdered.
They were never paid because California has a law that prevents pensions from being used to pay judgments. Most of OJ’s income came from his NFL pension.
(Gods, I was wondering why this thread was moving so quickly, only to check and see that the bulk of it is some myopic, racial bullshit. Sigh.)
I have never understood people’s obsession with this case or him as a person after it occurred. Scratch that. I do understand it, but it seems silly, especially since it’s primarily because of racial sentiments either for or against him rather than any actually caring that whether “justice” was or (probably) wasn’t done. To me, basically no one should care save for the families of the victims and I guess OJ’s own family. That people still care so much is to me just emblematic of several of (American) society’s unfortunately more enduring problems, including celebrity worship obsession.
Did OJ actually do it? It’s more than likely, but it’s not like it matters now due to double jeopardy. It also doesn’t excuse him getting an egregiously overblown jail sentence for armed robbery even if you think he “deserved” it since there are already way too many bullshit sentence doled out by the American “justice” system. We didn’t and still don’t need anymore of them.
Did the jurors likely already have their minds made up before the trial even began? Probably, but that’s sadly extremely commonplace and thus not the exceptional part of OJ’s murder trial, especially since prosecutors and defenders actively try to screen for jurors who are for or against them pretty much all of the time. Additionally, I really don’t think anyone here would be willing to accept the judgment of 12 random strangers who are supposedly your “peers” for pretty much anything since (American) people are dumb as fuck. So even though the American justice system is sadly still one of the better ones in the world, it’s not like anyone who isn’t utterly naive is going to act like the juror system is an at least somewhat flawed.
Did the prosecutors fuck up their own arguably slam-dunk case horrendously? Definitely. Honestly, even before I found out just to extent what a racist piece of shit Mark Fuhrman was (and probably still is) this weekend because I just happened to have CNN on in background for the first time in a year, the corrupt, idiotic, and egregiously racist state of the LAPD at the time basically doomed the case against OJ from the very beginning. The only way that OJ would have been convicted with what was presented with all the things that happened during the case was if he was actually caught at the scene acting like Elizabeth Bathory or something. Even then, he still might have gotten off; the LAPD was that incompetent and the jurors were likely that biased one way or the other.
Honestly, no one really came out from this case looking good save for Johnny Cochran and I guess whatever Kardashian was present. Speaking of which…
@Darksakul - As I understand it presently, a concise version of theory is that the OJ trial and everything surrounding it increased interest in wanting to see “real” events and thus paved the way for reality TV to become a thing, which is what helped give Trump and too many other talentless hacks–coughKardashianscough–exposure they wouldn’t have otherwise gained, which in Trump’s case is ultimately what helped him to give enough brand name among the American people to be able to win that clusterfuck of an election against Hilary’s almost equally incompetent ass.
Shrug. I’m not sure how much I buy into the theory, especially since disgusting amounts of celebrity obsession had existed before OJ’s trial, but I can’t imagine that OJ’s trial helped in any way.
(Alternately you could just go the race card route and choose to believe it’s something else they want to pin on OJ’s because he’s black. )
