oh i coulda said something before, lemme take accountability for my part.
Props to Kenny: you I and everyone else know that it took a miracle for me to beat you. I pulled the matches against Evan and Mandel out of my butt too, but … wow. My Cable had five pixels and Tron had maybe seven for about the last thirty seconds of that match. Great work.
Oh, and I can’t remember who I saw not doing this, but – guys, duck Hail Storm and Hyper Sentinel Force. You take less damage. That’s why my Cable lived - the assist took the damage while fully sheltering Cable. If you block standing, you take damage and die. If you block crouching… there’s hope.
I’ve been taking your words wisely! lol! Thanks, Preppy.
I had no idea. Damn, that’s useful to know.
Wow… that’s good to know
And anyone wanting stick repair/pcbs, etc: I’m now in business
Didn’t know that Zach… I’m actually trying to not be a scrub at Marvel. It’s only fair if I’m going after Keith’s title that I actually try to play seriously and not play with the very very basic knowledge I have of the game from playing it randomly over the years. That and its impossible to get a game of 3S or CVS2 going at Zach’s, might as well conform to the masses and be a rotation regular. :bgrin:
I’m kind of angry that I don’t have the 3S board yet. And I’m also pretty unhappy that I have a CvS2 board that I can’t use. The 3S board should be here soon. hopefully.
Rankings have been updated on the main page. 5/4 will be the next poker night. Tell people about it. Get everyone to show and sign up by 9PM. I don’t care what Cody promises to do for me sexually, I won’t delay the tournament for 3 hours so that just one more person shows up. We barely got done before midnight last time, and I want to respect the people who show up for poker, ST, or other stuff.
I’m going to start only listing people at the top of the rankings in the first post. It’s inevitable that the rankings list will grow hella long as the season progresses. Know that I’ll still keep spreadsheets of everyone’s total scores, tournaments attended, performance at individual events, and hard copies of the brackets/sigh-ups.
Everyone, please take a look at the rankings in the first post and my tournament update on page 8 of this thread. If I got the names of anyone wrong, or if I’m missing anyone’s names, please let me know and I’ll update the info displayed. Off of the top of my head, I know I need Peachy’s last name, SamB’s last name, Tempest253’s last name, Rattana’s SRK handle, and maybe some other stuff.
I plan on seeding the top half of the bracket according the players’ rankings, starting with the next Marvel tournament. This was due to requests from a couple of players. The bottom half of the bracket will still be random. That way, if you’re a cellar dweller, you won’t necessarily play Row/Rat/Kuan/Kodybutfuck each time you make the drive out there. If anyone objects to this, here would be the place to discuss your concerns.
If ST players want me to do this for their events as well, speak up and we can implement it starting with the tournament AFTER 5/4. I feel that the numbers would only mean something after we have a couple of events tallied.
I had actually devised a formula to determine the worst Marvel player based on strength of opponents defeated/beaten-by, overall record, and some other gibberish. But since I’m the sole competitor for the crown that has played in all 3 tournaments so far, I win by default. An interesting note though, the second worst Marvel player amongst everyone that has played in all 3 tournaments turned out to be. . . Kyle Chow. I’m not talking shit about his game, it’s just something for people to digest. It’s what the math came out to when I applied the formula, discuss at your leisure.
Who spells “butt” with just one “T”? The man who’s “Magnus is tight”.
Doughboy I will play you in marvel cus I am undoubtedly the worst marvel player in Seattle, we should set something up.
Anyways we need some more Super Turbo players, I know you had to beg people basically to fill out the ranks a bit. I’ll money match people in ST next time if that will help? I’m practicing my ass off, I avenged my loss to Deezo last tourney in the money match after the tourney, then next time I’ll beat Peachy to avenge my loss this tourney, and proceed to kick Nate’s ass winning first place.
The title of being the worst [Marvel] player in Seattle started off as a joke with Frank when I first arrived back in town. Since then, a couple of others have attempted to challenge me for the title. Loose ground rules have been laid for determining the worst player, a title that can be passed with every tournament. Chief among them was that people had to actually claim an interest in the title, and that they had to have played in at least 3 tournaments to be in contention.
Truth be told, this has been somewhat of a ploy on my part. I do consider myself to be the worst player in Seattle. This can largely be attributed to the fact that I recently arrived from an inferior scene. However, the so called title of being the worst player is really just an attempt to get low level players who were straddling the fence to participate in tournament play. Without a diverse field, our scene suffers. Without a vibrant community, our top players will suffer.
I would not even make it out of the pools at EVO, but a couple of the people from this area have a chance to do well in Marvel. So everyone who plays fighting games should come out to these league tournaments. If not to be great, just to get better. If not to get better, just to meet some cool people. If not for the social aspect, just for the allegorical cookie of being the “worst player”. We benefit as a group for it.
Julian, I’d love to play you in ST. I love playing any game to kill time. I’ve even got a copy of Jojo’s in my car if people want to throw down. But there’s no way in hell I’d play ST for money. I’m one of the few Asians that does not enjoy gambling. The matter regarding money matching Kuenai in MvC2 spawned out of interest from other parties. There were at least 3 other Seattle Marvel players that brought the matter up to me, and I was merely facilitating their requests to see a cripple fight. Though putting up some money is a good way to keep casual losers like us from tanking just for the “glory” of being the worst player. It would keep results honest.
Anyway, everyone should drag anyone that they know with an interest in fighting games to the next league event. It’s not just a matter of personal triumph/improvement, it’s about NW pride.
Damn, I always put HELLA epic sized posts. I felt like saying this in a separate post since the last one was already elephantine.
So, Kuenai, how about that money match? We can tackle it before/after the next tournament on 5/4. I had originally recommended a small amount anted per game, with a first to 10 format because less money would be ventured by either party this way. I mean, I seriously doubt that either one of us could sweep 10 games. But the worse case scenario would see one player lose only $20 if we did FT10 with $2 per game. That’s $20 at most. People could place whatever side bets they wanted, and we could still hype it as the “best-of-the-worst” grudge match with $XXX,XXX on the line when the video makes it online.
Too many long ass posts…
damn.
When is the ST videos going to uploaded… I have to see, Me vs. Mandel.
that shit was funny.
Meh. If I make it. Did you see what I said on Zach’s thread? I really don’t know how it’s gonna go. I might be able to make it 5/4, since it gives me enough time to cool things down over here. If I show, MM. It’s settled. Keep upping your game, bro.
Keith I am actually interested in learning to play Jojo, you should come to my new place sometime and we can chill and play jojo and oddball games on emu’d x-box…
I’ve always wanted to at least start to learn Jojo’s, see if it’s fun played competitively. Match vids make it seem pretty fun… crazy link heavy combos, though.
I’ve been wanting to try that! Combo videos make Jojo look savage.
I’ve never seen Jojo’s in action. I gotta check it outt when I get the wireless working again  wtf is wrong with my wireless card? I detect networks, I connect, but I don’t recieve information. This just happened after setting up a LAN. Maybe I should check the tech talk forums…
Oh: and a minor nit (mentioned here so anybody doing this can benefit):
When you draw up brackets, try to have each quadrant full of an equal number of people. The bottom fourth had four people (no byes) while the area just above that had two people (two byes) or something like that. That wreaks havoc with the bracketing system. It’s usually just easier to balance people out and only ever have the bracket bye differential between any two comparable groups be one. If people arrive late and you need to plug them in, you can just switch one of the sets of matches to a different area (if possible) or take what would have been a second round match-up (after a bye for each) and make it a first round match-up.
It just makes things run a lot smoother and you don’t get crazy-weird layouts in the loser’s bracket.
Thanks for doing this.
The first 8 people were randomly seeded this time. When the final 2 (Hobb1t and Tempest253) showed up, I had them pick a number at random and inserted them in the bracket that way. I see what you’re saying though. It shouldn’t be a problem with Marvel from now on, since we’re going to seed players starting with the next tournament. When we seed, the highest ranked players will automatically be the ones with the byes, and the brackets should be balanced.
Edit: Actually, I just remembered that Tempest and Hobb1t had already been entered in the tournament when we started. It was Kyle who came late, and he was inserted randomly into a round 1 bye. My bad.
On a side note, is there a proper order to run matches in fighting game tournaments? I always run the winner’s brackets all the way through, then start the losers. This gives late arrivals maximum time to show up and get plugged into the losers bracket. I also try to run matches in each plateau of the bracket, so that one player doesn’t sit and play while everyone else gets cold. Anything wrong with these 2 approaches?
Hey, everyone who was considering showing up for the 5/4 tournament, you now have extra incentive. Come see the cripple fight (ref: South Park) between me and Kuenai. That’s right, a Marvel money match between the worst player in Seattle and the Titan of Tulips. Start placing those side bets. It will be painful and amusing to watch me get my ass whoop’ed. Alcohol might enhance your experience.
I played Jojo’s once upon a time… link heavy? yes.
… if they have it around wherever I end up in Japan, I promise to get good at it and wax everyone in December when I’m back. =P
Dio infinite/semi-infinite, lp,mk,qcb+p, dash, [b+lp,mk,qcb+p]…
forget if the punch needs to be a certain strength, but you need b+lp after the dash, a dashing jab stays out longer, so in all the dash links you see in the combo videos they use b or d/b+ their button to cancel allowing them to link… if those combos frustrated you because you could never link after a dash, that was prolly why.
After watching good people play in Japan in Osaka, I get the feeling Polnareff is [the?] top tier.
Oh yea… I’m gonna try and show up to Zach’s next Friday. =) Anyone that’s driving out of Everett or anything, by chance? If possible I’d like to snag a ride from around there (damn, a year and half later and I still really miss my 240… if for nothing else, then for the fact that it was transportation).
