Now I'm a little motivated! - The Vergil Video Thread

It’s 13+1 frame start up which means you can’t really use it on reaction to beam style supers because most beam supers start up on the first frame after the freeze and will hit you in a very few frames after that. Against beam style supers you’ll basically want to start it up preemptively and then move forward so you deter them from using a super. I’ve seen it absorb taskmaster arrow super for sure before but I’ve heard some people say that other beam supers can cut off the swords. I’ll have to test it and see.

Vergil beats up on Dark Phoenix pretty free especially if he’s the one to force her in on the welcome as long as you have a meter or two.

Newest T&T. About Vergil’s Round Trip. I mostly use my team, but it’s easy to extrapolate the tech to any vergil team.

won’t advance guarding the round trip just push you away as soon as you teleport?

Cool video FlyingVe. I wonder if the set up you missed was the one where against in coming characters you teleport and then do a dash under or fake dash under or teleport again. There are also some stuff you can do with RT + DT.

Also I tried those raw tag set ups but there are spots where the opponent can escape/retaliate.

Actually, I left out a few things (forgot), so I’m planning to do a part two. So if you could elaborate a bit, I would add and credit any setups you have in the part 2.

Also, the raw tag stuff isn’t a perfect unblockable unless you use DT to kill the recovery of the round trip throw. However, it still guarantees you a mixup. You’ll notice with Strider how I did 2B, delay, 2C with the 2C timed with the burn kick, that’s to keep them there. If I was smarter, I would have done, 2A, Delay, 2C that way if by some miracle they pushblocked the 2A I could still dash 2C for the unblockable.

Timing will help with this, plus there are very good ways to condition them not to pushblock and pushblocking will just setup an infinite blockstring or more mixups.

Re-posting in here to maybe hear some opinions (mostly Zeus’s) on what I should be working on with Vergil. A lot of “just do it” moments here and there since casual is the place to try some stuff out. lol

I run the same team as Toxy, same strats/mixups. It’s front heavy with Vergil/Wesk, but if your down to Hawkeye, typically its hard to make comebacks. The main difference between the way we play is I charge round trip and throw them raw from full screen, before teleporting in, while he relies more on triple arrows to cover him. If my round trip doesn’t get them, then I use arrows + port to continue the pressure, while I charge up the next round trip.

Anybody comment on whether my way of getting in is more risky. Might be something I don’t realize from not playing top players offline, just online.

I feel like there’s nothing special about his Vergil, nothing I was particularly impressed about. Didn’t have any resets off air grab combos, dropped quite a few sword loops, pretty good defense against a heavy rush down team though.

I’m starting to think blocked stinger into rapid slash xx dt is getting stale. Everybody has seen it and knows how to block it. It also forces yourself to throw away a meter to keep yourself safe off of what’s hardly considered a mixup anymore. Is there a reason nobody does blocked stinger into L cut? Too easy to accidentally turn it into dp L rising kicks maybe?

Uhh i don’t like full screen roundtrip against projectile characters cuz any projectile will eat the round trip for free. and yeah i might have to agree with the rapid slash, but if you pull it out maybe like once every set then you could be okay, also if you have wesker and they block the rapid slash and you cancel into swords, you can set up a hard to blockable. and i feel cancel into judgement cut is a good option, people just often forget about it because they wanna keep pressure with vergil

tl;dr. round trip = good against no projectiles and bad against projectiles. rapid slash is good if seldom used, and judgement cut is still a good option

Only if they block it grounded, seems like most people like jumping against rapid slash. So they would be blocking swords in the air. For curiosity sake though, say you landed a helm breaker+samurai edge with swords on, what’s the best combo to go for from that situation?
