"Now, face the mighty Bison!" - Video Critique Thread

Yea I tend to do too many Devil Reverses, i need to tone that down.

The Rog match I dunno why I wasnt punishing as good as I could. I think I had these matches in the same day if not, maybe I was tired.

I got a question, Im trying to link cs.HP xx s.LK and it whiffs most of the time. Is that a character specific link or Im just doing to completely wrong?

Should hit everyone but I haven’t tested that. It’s a 1 frame link too so it’s tight.

I use cr lk after cs hp (2 frame link) and I’m pretty consistent but still lk has better range so I should maybe make the change but 1 frame links are tough online.

against rog:

0:23 - all his dash punches are at least -3 on block, except for his EX straight and turn punch but both of them leave him at frame disadvantage. You should practice punishing them with cr.LK in training mode

  • DASH STRAIGHT = -3, -6, -8, -2
    DASH UPPER = -3, -5, -7, -1
    whiff crouch
    DASH SCREW= -5, -7, -9, -3 (armor break)
    DASH GROUND = -8, -10, -11, -3
    DASH OVERHEAD = -5, -7, -8, -5 (armor break)
    TURN PUNCH = -2, -5… (armor break)
    18f invincible

    HEADBUTT startup = 8, 10, 12, 12*

It seems that you don’t have a clear plan after you have thrown rog. You have a lot of options to mixup your oki game:

After a forward throw:

  1. immediately go for a j.HP. There’s no timing involved for this safe jump - just hold the stick up after the throw. Rog’s headbutt startup time is really slow
  2. walk forward a bit and do an ambiguous j.HP. If you time it right, it can account for both regular and delayed wakeup, that is, j.HP won’t whiff
  3. immediately go for an empty stomp and do an auto-correct LK scissors when you land. This will crossup and beat throw attempts. Scissors will still be in its active frames if the opponent goes for a delayed wakeup

After a back throw:

  1. dash towards > whiff s.LK (don’t do it frame perfect) > j.HK. This will crossup and will not whiff if the opponent does a regular or delayed wakeup.
  2. dash towards > walk a bit backwards (about the length of bison’s toe protector) > j.HP. This is an ambiguous setup that will either crossup or hit from the front, depending on how much you walked backwards. This will also account for both regular and delayed wakeup
  3. dash towards > empty jump cr.LK. This catches a lot of people

1:48 - good punish. Walk backwards to mis-space his dash punches, causing them to whiff is a prime strategy against rog. Rog will always try to connect his punches at very tip of his fists so your cr.LK will be out of reach to punish, but at the same time, it increases the risk of whiffing if you walk a bit backwards

I guess I’ll post a video. You will notice that I don’t really do combos much since I don’t depend on them. I mainly do pokes, a lot of zoning, and short combos. I’m the guy on the left.

Here’s a link to my new YouTube channel, it has a few of my fights up there. Considering to put a few more fights, maybe a few were I lose. I think those would help expose a few more weaknesses.
Any suggestions would be great!

Posting videos where you actually lose is a good idea since people can give you advice on your weak points.

Here’s a replay I just uploaded (where I lost the fight). Could’ve played that much better, dropped a few combos and had a few jumps I didn’t need.

Volkan, I just noticed your video (hopefully someone notices mine one of these days). First thing to say is…if you were playing a patient Bison who understands how to punish more of the things you were doing, the fight may have not gone that well. Try to save your meter more. Try not to do 3 EX headstomps in one round since those are easily punishable if the Bison player has ultra 2 (or punishable by a bunch of other random character’s ultras). The worst time for an EX headstomp was when you did one after you already had a huge lifelead. If you’re close to winning the match and have that much life, try to just back away slightly and poke/anti-air (its won me a LOT of matches). Try to also avoid using so many non-EX psycho crushers since those are also very punishable. A few of them hit the other player because of bad defense, but its not something you should make a habit. As you start playing offense in a safer/less-risky way, you’ll realize that practicing the basic combos do help a lot…because you won’t get easy damage from headstomps and random psycho crushers.

Looking for some feedback/constructive criticism. I feel that I am getting better though. More info in the description. PS3.

One thing I noticed is that you’re using cr.fierce a lot against him grounded. Not really the best button to hit unless it’s a really obvious jump in (look at the frame data and you’ll see why). Work on punishes like when he whiffed the ex headbutt. Your answer was just a throw.

There are two things Rog can do to get in safely and both can be countered. Watch out for jab straight or TAP.

To make jab straight safe it has to be spaced correctly so learn the spacing and be on the lookout for it. Maintain your charge and if you see it coming you can ex pc to blow it up.

TAP takes an age to startup so if you see it coming either walk forward and throw or neutral jump for a big punish. Watch the neutral jump in the mid game though as he can catch you with headbutt to ultra.

He did a couple of unsafe rush punches which could have been punished by cr short to medium scissors but weren’t so learn the timing for punishes and, as ajyou said, you need to punish much harder than you are. Throws are all good if you have a safe jump or unblockable setup but since we lack damage at the best of times then you should learn max (or even just higher) damage punishes as a matter of urgency.

My rusty attempt after 4 months of not playing. I hate Elena along with Deejay lol. I lost about 40% of my health during the 1st match just trying to jump in on DJ. People also hate my turtle Bison fo real… An Oni player won, I placed 3rd lost to a damn Elena…21 people entered this local tournament

Hey guys, I’m kind of new. Been playing the game for a few months and Bison for a bit over a month. I could use some critique. Here’s a few of my matches:

Now I’m not the best guy here to give advice, but I will tell you… Stop announcing to the world that you are charging. You know? Just sitting there Cr BLK’n. And like myself you need to work on punishing your opponents. If not max damaging combos then something that can bring the pain like my go to maneuver Cr Med Punch to a hard Psycho Crush. And lastly from MY advice, your wake up Ex Scissors… I wouldn’t suggest doing it. I prefer an EX Devil Reverse on wake up. But that’s my personal “Go-To”

But yeah dude. Not bad. Just needs work, as we all do. I hope someone else can give you better criticism than I.

Bison is not my main but still one of the characters I like to use on occasion. Part of me feels like I got really lucky in beating a player that is very much above my skill level. Please critique!

This is against the same Vega I’ve had problems with in the past. I’m pressing too many buttons I think but any advice appreciated.
