tht frame data was boosted from the cammy sub-forum, here’s the info on the SRK wiki which I think is compiled from that japanese book with the console char frame date
HK Spiral Arrow (2hits) - It can be canceled on the first hit that’s why she can do the “Cannon spike” right after, and for the Low and Mid Spiral Arrow when blocked is -17 so Rufus can do what ever he wants.
So with this info, her spike is 4 frame start-up, rufus’ cr. MK is 6 frames. If she’s -10 on block then I should technically have an easy time throwing, cr. MK > HP Torn, etc (under 10 frames). This looks promising…
SHIT! So technically you can’t do jack to HK Spiral Arrow? Because I’m sure all of them do the HK version and they mash Spike to cancel.
Well the frame data shows 2hits for the HK version, so if there close to you yes they can mash out spike just in case you try to throw them after block. For me I don’t risk it unless I know they do Spiral Arrow Low or Med all the time, then you should punish them.
against cammy, feigning fa’s is important this matchup. it forces rh drills(which are 2 hit), hooligan combos/other shit.
c.fierce punishes blocked cannon spikes easy, but can be counter supered on hit
cannon spike beats all jumpins(90% of them she beats clean), except for perfect crossup divekick.
my hardest habit to break is standing up when i see hooligan combo…lol, i’m breaking it slowly
you really halfto out gimmick a cammy in this matchup.
i dunno about drill->spike. that seems to marvel-ish for a special to cancel into a special like that. i think its into super that the 1st hit is cancelable.
it also doesn’t make sense. if you block the first hit, even if they were able to cannon spike, you should be in blockstun, unless her first hit has no blockstun, which I don’t believe.
edit:
also, i’m thinking of doing a whole nother thread for just ryu, b/c i am having the roughest time with him. i did casuals last night against a friend’s ryu, and i think matches were 20-5 on him. halfto be more on point against ryu than blanka sagat rog or gief -_-, will discuss in a bit. at the office atm
^^^^see I told you he is a fkn hard fight; I think a specific ryu thread is a good idea but mind the fuerte one got closed
according to my character record I have played nearly 890 (!!!) matches with rufus now; I’m going to try pick up c.viper alongside him, for a bit of change
Yeah against my friend its was like 10-4 to him, that’s why perfect jump-ins are so necessary when predicting fireballs, gay match up but its really worth learning.
I was thinking that we should do a “weekly spotlight” match-up thread. So we can eventually have a in-depth strategy discussion on each character eventually. Any thoughts?
^^^
That’s a good idea just for people know how to punish moves an how to play the match up properly, we need to find out who’s everyone has the most problems with first other then Ryu.

Well hot damn…That is a beyond great idea.
Where would we post them? New Threads or first page of existing ones?
Who would organize it? I am sure we all have stuff to contribute but need someone to organize everything.
Also firstly don’t we need to create a topic showing everyone’s top 5 worst match up, just to pick an show which characters we should start of first, from there we will work on to do the other characters?
being sagat obvious, i think gouken is also a bit challenging, havent played a lot of gouken but good ones and its hard to get in, direction fireballs, c. mk for jump ins, parry like for dive kicks, i think is a hard fight
we should do a thread, & then at the end of the week/once we reach a point of closure, we should put it in the 1st/2nd post of the stickied matchup thead.
I was dying last night to Ryu. But I was doing it to myself. Falling for silly stuff.
I began to play him more like how I play Sagat(walk him into the corner, then take it from there) and I fared much better.
Glad people like the idea. I think we should just nominate someone who contributes/has a lot of knowledge of Rufus to actually start it off. Then everyone pitch in and fill the gaps. Then at the end of the week we put it all together to wrap it up. Bake for 2 hours. Then throw into the 1st page of Match-up Thread (or make a new consolidated one)
For the cammy thing, I think it actually has to do with the distance she hits you with the cannon drill. At certain distances I think all her drills are safe cause she can use it as a meaty. I wouldn’t recommend using s.hp xx hp tornado to punish the drill (sorry cozeny) it takes the fat ass a while to even stand up after the blocked drill.
I’m pretty confident against sagat. I think the key is to make him impatient with lots of neutral jumps & triangle jumps. wear him down mentally and try not to get frustrated when you hit a wall.
ryu is worse for me because he’s actually MOBILE. he can really switch it up and get in your face… all sagat has is a lame crossup and tiger knee antics. not to mention how annoying it is trying to punish random lp shoryukens.
This is totally simple, and not high damage, but standing strong is 100% guaranteed punish against lp dps with zero risk. It works against all distances of the lp dp’s effectiveness and you can get it out even if you react late to the dp. Not only that, but it seems to take the lp dp out of their ground game completely.
Obviously l.mk>tornado/ex tornado is best case scenario, but at either far distance or worst case scenario, the st. strong is really discouraging and a fail safe against lag, execution and reaction time variables.
Um, I’m not so sure about that. I’ve tried a couple times to hit Ryu with a s. HP after a LP SRK and whiffed. Granted I was a tiny bit outside of him but it would whiff high (after he landed from SRK). I think the further out you are the less chance you have of landed s. HP to punish.
Ok, so I think I have sufficient knowledge of MOST cheesy tactics EXCEPT Guile’s LP SB walk-up > jumping hk/jumping grab/sweep/overhead. I feel that the options when the SB is coming are: FA, Tornado, Neutral jump, jump-in. So FA gets beat bc I take the SB but he’ll sweep/hit me with something else. Tornado takes too long for me to get out except for lp tornado, haven’t had real success with it. Neutral jump MIGHT be the best option it seems. A neutral jump HP I feel could negate whatever Guile does but I haven’t tested it much yet. Finally jump-in usually gets beat by s. HP (i think that’s his uppercut), jumping HK, jumping grab, etc. What do people do for this tactic because that’s all Guile really has in my opinion.
strong is MP btw and it’s v.easy to connect; if you’re in far st.MP range aren’t you in cr.MK range, which is a cancellable normal which would be better?
you can punish lp dps with st.HP xx, or st.MP xx, when close enough
edit: hold the bus! I didn’t know this, st.LK, st.MP xx HP tornado comboes on a crouching ryu?! is tht same for all crouching opps?
