but, I have probably like 6 months experience on him.

he does none of the combos.

in the zangief video, he tries to stay on top of him and rush him down. not smart play at all

in a video against a scrub ken, he wastes a ton of meter, and punishes whiffed flame srk’s with cr.rh. does not maximize damage. he also dive kicks really high, and allows srk’s to punish him.

J.hk to EX Snake Strike is definitely my favorite solution for H.DP whiffers. Throws if I’m lazy. And Cr.HP if they’re really far away. I don’t know of anyone who whiffs L.DPs, but I don’t really have a set strategy for it.

I punish srk’s with st. hp xx hp.tornado, and if we are close enough to the corner at the end of the tornado I tag on a lp.tornado or ultra.

j.rh xx ex snake strike is also good for punishing, does tons of damage.

you could also do target combo (lk > hk) to ultra if you have the meter.

don’t depend on throws, it’s all about maximizing damage and getting that KO faster

oh, and my friend got a camcorder, so at my arizona ranbats I will make sure to record matches, and post them for you guys to see!

cr.lp and st. mp beats blanka balls
cr. mp beats rainbow blanka balls
dive kick does beat electricity at the edges, I’ve proven this one over and over again. so, when you do this, add in st.hp xx hp.tornado. does beautiful damage.
i have actually beaten rainbow balls with j.rh, but it’s a weird timing
cr.mp xx ex tornado, cr.mk beat electricity also.
treating electricity and blanka balls like fireballs and using tornado works.

ex tornado beats ultra
tornadoes are amazing

I’ve actually beaten scissor kicks with tornado, and st.hp xx tornado. it was weird.
j.rh beats head stomp and devils reversal, just time it right.
you can focus attack head stomps, and I think I saw people do cr. mp in videos, don’t quote on that

I fucking hate this match, but rushing him down is great. don’t let that fucker get a single move off.

cr. jab beats headbutts
if you block any headbutt except lp headbutt, you can punish with cr. hp
cr. mp beats butt slam thing

justin, do you punish lp srks with hp xx hp tornado too? I don’t know if it’s online but the timing on that seems tight and even if I’m real close I mostly always eat another “psychic” shoryu. it’s ‘psychic’ shoryu mashing and jab mashing shotos keep peacing me out. work on my mixups (stop predictable dive kicking :D) and combo timing is the answer to both those problems I guess.

No, I do not. I usually just block and wait for their next move, or dash forward and throw, and sometimes if I get the timing perfect target combo

We have one arcade with SFIV, and that is Gameworks in Tempe. I doubt you will get much comp. there anymore. It’s like a dollar a play, so we all play console.

When are you coming/ PM me and I’ll give you my number and you can come over to my place and play. (I live in Tempe which is like 15 minutes from Chandler.)

Anyone have any Gen advice? I played a Gen that really uses his fast low jump to cross up constantly. Its so fast I can’t c.MP it. Often c.MP misses anyway. If I am really working to zone I can catch him with a FP but anytime I try to get in and do damage I eat cross-ups like crazy.

This is what he is doing. cross up > c.lp (if hit) continue to slappy hand (to super to kicks/ultra) or
When I block it he can just jump right into another crossup.

Any advice?

I don’t have much experience, but I am going to say that focus attack dash back his mantis stance cross up’s would work. back dash is invincible you know?

Crane stance Oga move (dive kick thing) is a focus breaker, so your best bet is to either ex snake strike, or predict it and dash back ex messiah.

if he does the Hyakurenko (thousand slaps) ex messiah, it beats everything anyway.

when I do play Gen, I just pressure him big time, don’t let him get too much off on me etc.

ps holy fuck Gen can do Oga dive kick > mantis super > either ultra.

Oh, I know. I know all too well. He can also: cross up > c.lp > slappy hands > super > ultra

I learned this MANY times last night.

yeah i know that combo, I do that when I mess with Gen.

I’ve found that a tornado beats out electricity after a few frames. C.MK also works very well if they spam electricity. I find the best thing to do with the rainbow ball is to block and be weary of the cross up, it’s better to block and EX messiah when he lands.

Honda’s headbutt can be punished with a C.HP most the time, depends how fast you can get it off. You can also dive kick him out of his Ultra if you position it correctly, otherwise you will trade him out of it if you’re too close to his head, So it’s always best to cross up honda when he is down with a dive kick and not be afraid of the ultra on wake up, but be weary of the butt stomp. Blocking on butt stomp usually allows for a EX Messiah or S.HP.->Tornado

I hate balrog matches, mostly because I haven’t had enough practice with them yet, that stupid head butt eats my dive kicks and throws me off. Did not know EX Tornado knocks him out of his ultra.

For bison, if you hear the Head stomp grunt. Go for EX snake strike, it hurts him bad. They almost always try this when your health is low. Regular snake strike beats head stomp also, not sure if it beats EX head stomp, pretty sure it does.

you could even do cr.mk xx hp tornado when blanka does electricity or cr. mk xx ex messiah. more damageeeeeeeeee

I’v bin having some trouble with good Chuns as of late, she keep crossing me up with her lil flip kick when ever i get knocked down. Any advice to counter this other then don’t get knocked down?

Only thing you can do is just predict the kick. Not sure if a tornado would knock her out of it, I wouldn’t try a snake strike, you may go to the other direction and she’ll hit you on the recovery. Really though, it’s extremely easy to block since she does that “hup” noise before she does it.

I haven’t had problems with chuns, but yeah that flip kick is annoying. She also seems to have high priority air-to-air attacks.

I still need to add you, justin. I keep forgetting (plus I haven’t played SF4 the last couple days) I want to see your Rufus and try the mirror a bit.

flip kick has its own arc, lower than her normal one. most chun’s aren’t perfect at keeping perfect block stun if you block it, so you can messiah kick between it and w/ you predict she’s going to do.

i’ve had decent success w/ lp and mp snakestrike on wakeup, which will hit it clean

against rog & ryu, i’m still working things out. i’ve only fought a few good rog’s, so i dunno if anything i learn against them is applicable.

against ryu, my speedbump is when they do that blockstring into crossup whatever.

you can rufus roll, and avoid the crossup, and then iono. too many different ryu’s.

from afar, build ultra meter, and divekick/tornadospin in.

and from the sagat video, you’ll see at one point i jump vertically for like 5 seconds. the things that just jumping vertically against a sagat/ryu/ken, from just outside their srk distance makes them twitch. i’m working on expanding the situations of what they do. its not good against sagat, b/c of tigerknee. -_-.

against branka, c.lp is better imo for beating random blankaballs. against ghetto branka’s if they do it from full screen, a jump back j.hp, or well placed divekick will knock them out too. everything else i do is from this thread.

against rog on knockdown, why was crossup divekicks a bad thing? I do it, over and over, and it seems safe. it knocks him out of his bull uppercut thing, and if it misses him, you can punish recovery with c.fierce. even against rogs who use their fa and s.lp to beat out full height divekicks, i can still get a few good hits against them be4 they think enough to use it

how do you rufus players feel about the rufus claw match up?

i need sum insight on this.

Last night I stuffed Sagat’s super with crouching low punch. Rufus’ arm was extending in slow motion during the super’s startup. By far my most epic stuff ever!
