you don’t have to.
I mean, that is a much better tool to get used to VF basics, but it is kind of useless on VF5 because the system is rather different. the practice system on VF5 is pretty garbage

Tajiri, I guess some of the Fred Meyer stores still have VF4 Evo around. If I find any of them, I’ll let you know.
Yosuke, yeah, totally understand. But Tajiri doesn’t have anything to practice or learn VF on yet, so VF4 Evo is about as best as he can get until 360 version comes out or he can buy PS3 hehe. Well, he can also practice general VF on the VF4 machine at Tilt. I’ll be sad when that machines goes away with the 57 streak I stamped on it…
But there will be a lot of VF sessions this summer and I’ll be doing my best to nurture this Portland scene further
NW VF Upcoming Events (Posted June 15th, 2007)
Special Last Second Edition!
Here are the upcoming events happening this week (tonight!) and next week!
(Seattle) Preppy’s Poker Nights - with special guest YOSUKE
Where: Seattle Area (check link)
When: TONIGHT (a little before 9pm - sometime on Saturday)
Info: here
In the Seattle area, every couple of weeks, Preppy hosts the Seattle area’s toughest competitors for serious poker, MvC2, CvS2, and ST. On top of that, there is 3S (he just got a cabinet), T5DR, and even VF5.
This week, Yosuke will be making an appearance as well as TheKinzel, Femto, and some other VF players in the area. This may be the start of a more regular VF5 spot at Preppy’s.
(Portland) The Art-House
Where: Portland Area (PM me or ajs_ for details on how to get there–we want to respect people’s places by not posting their address online)
When: TONIGHT (10:30pm - Sometime in Saturday), Every Friday, Most Saturdays
Info: PM to RayBlade, Chanchai, or ajs_ (I recommend PMing all 3 if it’s the day of the event)
The Art-House gatherings are fighting game sessions in an “intimate setting” featuring the masterpieces of the Portland and Vancouver (WA) fighting game players.
These days, the action is very heavy on the 3S, MvC2, and VF5 stations as they get the most consistent play. ST is also a huge favorite at the Art-House. CvS2 and A3 make frequent appearances with serious play. Occasionally, the Art-House features a PC station sporting Doujin-Fighters like Big Bang Beat or MAME (which can include KoF games, more Street Fighter, etc…).
The Art-House sessions are every Friday night and they almost always are open for Saturday nights as well.
(Seattle Area) Yosuke Farewell Bash
Where: Linnwood, WA
When: Maybe Tuesday, June 19th or Wednesday, June 20th
Info: PM Chanchai (me)
It’s not a complete farewell, because Yosuke will be back in September. But ajs_ and myself are planning on heading up to the Linnwood area to hang out with Yosuke and wish him a wonderful trip to Japan.
Some of us will see Yosuke again in August at Evolution. But we’re definitely gonna miss him for those two months, so we gotta party a bit. Or at least chill
Other Portland players might come as well. This is the first time I’ve made the announcement. We would love to meet up with the Seattle/Redmond area crews as well.
If anyone can bring an extra monitor and station (even if it was PS2 and VF4: Evolution) that would be pretty sweet. If someone can bring a Dreamcast with KOF 99 (which is actually 98), or a “MAME Station” with KOF 98, that would be sweet too.
More details will be announced in time (such as when the sessions will really start, probably later evening, etc…).
(Portland Area) Versis Summer Kick-Off Party
Where:
Versis Videogame Center
395 N. State
Lake Oswego, OR 97034
Phone: 503-922-1927
When: Thursday June 21st, 2pm-10pm (probably runs all night though)
Info: PM Chanchai or call the number given.
Versis Videogame Center is having a Summer Kickoff Party. Free Pizza and a very special rate of $1 an hour are the highlighted deals.
I will be there with the VF5 station and sticks ready. We might have T5DR going on there or other games. Expect the place to be pretty busy and crowded with lots of gaming action all over.
Count me in on this VF roster thing, I play Goh in VF5(I’m a noob though).
Report: Evo North & Yosuke Visit
Here’s a report by Madrox from Chicago (he’s been around since before my time–so during or before VF3 days). He hosted Yosuke over for Yosuke’s Evo North trip. Furthermore, Evo North had two surprise players in Jesse and Boyd from Minnesota. Great guys who have spent their time in Japan and I haven’t heard from them since the VF3tb on DC days.
Anyways, here’s the report ('cause Yosuke’s a Northwest Player and all hehe):
here is my EVO and Yosuke roundup…
Business First - Tourney Round up
The participants was a small group as expected… and surprisingly, the St. Louis crew was not there … Anyone know why ?
The big surprise was seeing Jesse and Boyd from MN… a blast from the past since we havnt seen you guys since VF3… Jesse is now with shun … when he had our memorable flying jacky technique.
Therefore, the from seeing the entries, I had guessed the outcome correctly (not hard picking 1st)…
Highlights -
Prefight - Yosuke had made it his goal to not lose a single match , if possible not a single round, using his other characters of Akira and Pai. He used those two at first since he wanted to have fun and not think too much by using Jacky. He raped everyone so far with them… then -
Yosuke (pai) vs Jesse (shun) - I beleive it was a quarter final match … Yosuke and Jesse were pretty evenly matched and it could have gone either way… and then Jesse beat Yosuke where it wasnt too close in the last round. Yosuke, you can tell was frustrated and/or embarassed for his performance (LOL think’n how I was able to tell)… and selected Jacky … Then the rapage began on everyone, and we have the 1st place story.
Best Match -
SH_ (brad ) vs Jesse (shun) - since I knew Jesse had good experience and Sean has good skill,
Jesse and Sean were very evenly matched so it could have gone either way. And it did, SH_ winning wiht a strong combo when he caught shun mid-move.
Players - there were a few othe players there that I didnt know… but met some new players with some potential and in need of compettition in their area. BIG PROPS to Chimera_Knight (Brandon) from Columbus, IN… You made this all possible by letting Yosuke, Jesse and I borrow your sticks… You have a good place here in chicago.
Pleasure - Weekend Yosuke Roundup
First Yosuke is a trip… he didnt freak out with my comments at all… and I like the fact that he like to hear and talk about ladies… Yeah Yosuke… get u some.
Thursday :
Picked him at 10pm… then he was a bit hungry and went for some Beefs at Portillo’s (http://www.portillos.com/) … My first experience with his eating … and MY GOD , he scarfs $hit down… holy cow… But , I have a few other blue-collar japanese freinds that do the same… so it was no surprise… i just wanted to get an eating contest going… Yosuke does eat fast, but he doesn’t eat alot. He said he wanted to try different chicago $hit… so that was my goal and easy to do for him.
Then we headed home and traded Mixi notes (http://mixi.jp) about our freinds on there and who we can find ,etc.
Friday:
Woke up and lazy’d around for a few hours then went to have lunch. He had mentioned to me that he loves meat (Yes, my first thought was maybe he can eat me )… so I asked him do you like beef, lamb, pork, man ??? what kinda meat. And he said anything besides man…
So we went to fogo’s. (http://www.fogodechao.com/locations/chicagoIL.htm).
He didnt eat as much as I thought he could, but he had a good time.
I went to drop him off at the arcade so he can meet up with the KOF crew (props to them, they are all so cool).
Saturday:
Yosuke had planned to spend the rest of the weekend with the KOF crew, but he felt they were too crowded in their room and told me he fell asleep on a regular chaif… I was like " wasnt there floor space"… “Yes, but i have more room at your house”… So I went to pick him and reminded him about my cuz’s party at 8pm. He said “its ok, i would like to see this party”… “OK, its going to be all guys and a few girls, but i think you’ll like it. We each pitch in some money for food”.
Then, it was yosuke’s memorable moments… He enjoyed the Hold’em play we had there , but then one of the ladies came in. She was thick, so not to Yosuke’s liking, but she had some weight up top to help her out. After dancing for my cuz, whe put whipped cream on Yosuke’s face and he couldnt get away before she forced his face to her chest… LOL, I cracked up cause the look on his face was priceless… shock, amazement, disgusted, everything in one face shot… He stayed with a napkin over his mouth the rest of the time she was ther.
The next girl came and was pounding guys REALLY F’n Hard… by jumping on there chest , humping them with extreme force… Yosuke stayed clear enough away as we were volunteering people for her action… Specially the belt spankings.
We then played pool and winded down at my house about 2am.
Sunday:
Headed out to the tourney at noon and stayed there watching and playing VF, KOF and GG.
left around 8pm and took him to eat Mexican food… He hasnt had mexican in the US ,only a chipotle burritos… and the place I took’m too had burritos twice as big for $5 bucks and reallly tasty. He ordered the burritos and saw someone elses Huge plate of steak and ‘chilaquiles" and wanted that instead. Obviously he couldnt finish it and but like it … He wants to help promote the restaurant … as I always do.
I did have to school’m a bit on proper street manners cause we saw some people break’n into a car and he stared as we walked and loudly said ’ What are they doing ?’ … I told 'm just look forward, and ask me quetly… ( we found out later they had forgotten their keys).
In the restaurant, it was like he was in a zoo, cause he’s never really been in a restaurant full of immigrant latino’s… but he was just curious and told him not to stare at anyone.
All in all , Yosuke knows he is very welcomed in my house… especially since I got to see him in his sexy boxers and topless… MEEEYOWW … … He not wimpy look’n , he actuallly has some meat to him… (for those that care)… We had a great time I think because we were able to talk alot and just hangout. I didnt have a PS3 or any systems setup , and I had forwarned him about that, but he we still had a good time. And I’m glad we made a good freindship. Unfortunately though, he did not want to go to the gay-pride parade on sunday, i could have hooked him up on a float if he really wanted too… but next time (right Yosuke?)
He was worried about his behavior at my house, but i told him to relax and dont worry about anything, you’re cool… If you F’k something up , then ill beat your ass…
He obviously is very polite and we had no issues …and hopefully ill host him again next year… with more notice to set up some gameplay.

Hey All,
Been awhile. What can I say, it’s Summer. Though in my case, it’s mainly been that I was busy all throughout June and especially busy lately since I started my new job. Practically working 10-15 hours a day, 6 days a week. But I get some great rest periods and have been trying to make sure I don’t burn myself out.
I have gone to some, but not all, of the art-house sessions. They’re still great and I’ve met even more people.
Evo West is coming up, I have my flight there, I"ll be getting my Comic-Con badge soon, and I have a great place to stay. However, I don’t know if I’m in good competitive shape for Evo. Trying to practice a bit on the side, but time is getting more and more scarce (or at least, less and less available).
Lion is, as always, miles ahead of any other character I play. He’s definitely my main and the one character I’m very competent with. However, I have been playing a lot of Jacky lately.
To a much lesser extent, I"ve been playing Kage, Shun, and Aoi. Personally, I’m debating about whether I have enough time (before Evo World) to completely learn much of the game and mainly learning all other characters, or if I’ll just have to focus on certain skills with Lion and play his strengths as best I can. It feels like a tough balance.
Lion --> Jacky isn’t too hard of a transition. I can see why some Jacky players are decent Lion players out there and vice versa.
When I find a bit more time, I might try to make an easier to read beginner VF article or something, but we’ll see.
At the very least, it’s very nice to know that the 360 version of VF5 will have better AI, exportable characters (YES!!), and online play (nice, but it doesn’t mean everything to me).

Whenever there’s another big VF gathering, post a thread for the gathering! I want in on one of these.
Pai/Jacky/learning Lion
Probabaly not gonna happen until Yosuke gets back or when Kinzel get’s whatever he needs to straightened out.
Also if anyone is interested in VF it wouldn’t hurt to post up at www.virtuafighter.com
I’m kinda leaning towards the 360 now sortaish. It’ll be longer than I thought 'till I’ll have that much disposable income so I’ll be able to see what happens with the PS3 version as well as any new developments with the 360 version.
Nick it’s good seeing your post again. That work schedule is hellacious.
Hey All,
This is Chanchai, posting from the Omni Hotel where Evo West is at. The tournament hasn’t started yet for VF5, but it will in a couple of hours.
It’s been an excellent gathering so far. I’ve had sessions with Plague, LA Akira, Sebo, Sweep The Leg, El Brisal, and Renzo. Sessions have been very fun but they are casual sessions. Lots of creative and crazy play, lots of ideas and coming up with new ideas. Love it.
This trip is mainly a training trip for me. While I’m holding up well against some of the top players of California, I don’t expect to do too well this tournament. I just want to improve, so that’s why I’ve opened myself up to a lot of sessions and playing.
Our current schedule:
Friday:
Evo West 6pm - till whenever
Gathering at Aaron’s - after Evo West, probably many hours
Saturday:
All day VF gathering at Chanchai’s parents’ awesome house in Carlsbad (seriously, my jaw dropped when I got into this house).
Sunday:
Evo West final tournament
More sessions wherever and going out to dinner.
Monday:
Go back to Portland
Anyways… Just wanted to say Hi to everyone, hope everyone is well. The VF’s been great, the weather is gorgeous as almost always, and Comic Con is hella busy so parking took like 40 minutes and it’s crowded out here.

Man… the road to learning VF5 is rouuuuugh. I’m starting with Sarah. Originally, I wanted to play Vanessa, but she seems different from VF4 =/ Regardless, Sarah appealed to me after watching a bit of her playstyle. I still 'ave much to learn.
If there are anymore get-togethers, let me know. I’ve a friend that’s rather adept with Goh and Akira. Constantly beating my ass and not allowing me to learn too well. I’m getting better though!
Congratulations to Chanchai aka Nick for getting 3rd at Evo West. GOOD SHIT on that. I thought you weren’t going to place :wgrin:
Let us know how that went down (who did you face, what was the tournament like)…
Good shit on getting 3rd dude
Congrats Nick:tup:
i propose we all go out to dinner next gathering with nick in celebration of his success anyone else down?
Congrats, Nick! Hope you improve from this experience and go on to place high at Evo Worlds, as well!
Edit: Gave you full rep.
Good fucking shit Chanchai! =]
NW is repping already with you and Yosuke putting in work.
He beat me that’s what lol, good shit Chanchai. This is Unsafe, this account is sort of old and I never got a chance to change the stupid name.
Stuff was really fun, I hope you guys all enjoy VF5 and get more into it. Chanchai is a really cool dude. Go Northwest dudes.
WasFemto: The “Syadcate” part was bugging me, so I cleaned it up and put your name in the wall crawl frame.
