Northwest Majors: June 28th at UW

Alright guys, the date is set! It’s gonna happen

Saturday May 24th, from 1:00 to 9:00 or later at the Walker Ames Room in Kane Hall, at UW!

Build Hype!

Damn… I was kinda hoping for the Summer tourney.

So for a logo, I was thinking a coat of arms type shield with Cable’s gun on it. Then “Guard Break F.C.” somewhere on it. Something dealing with marvel, the only game that matters. I have been busy, but I may try to use my wack ass photochop skills.

A summer tourney sounds nice, but there are a lot of reasons why holding it in May would be better. Holding it in May will allow us to advertise at UW while school is still in, which means we will get a better turnout. We could advertise beforehand, but expecting people to remember after school is out and when some people will have headed home already probably won’t workout as well.

We are also getting the room cheap because I am working the event and we are reserving it through the new Marvel Club at UW. After the Spring Quarter is over, I will be graduated, and therefore no longer a student, so we probably won’t be able to get a 700 dollar discount on the room since no one will be representing a student group as an officer anymore.

We are also saving 300 because I am working the event, and I don’t know if I will still be a CSS employee in the Summer.

So holding it in the Spring makes it a sure thing, and Summer raises a bunch of questions and problems that I would rather just not deal with.

Edit- So now that I realize it, I apologize for posting asking what people would prefer earlier. I sort of realized later why it wouldn’t work or why it would be harder.

So more details on the Tourney.

The cost for the room in total is going to be 578$.

We have it reserved from 12:00PM- 10:00PM. We can run longer if we need to, but reserving for longer means we have to pay for hours we won’t use if we end early, and ten hours seems like a pretty reasonable time. It is also late enough that no one will book an event after us, making us leave right at 10:00.

don’t act like remy isn’t your brother

About tournament funding.

We have a cost now; 578 dollars, and that is probably going to be as expensive as it gets. I am going to start fundraising as soon as possible.

I asked about getting the school to pay for it, and it would actuallly work agianst us. Besides having a huge number of restrictions on attendance and activities which would be hard to get around, the school would pay for the whole venue…

BUT, they would take any money that we collected in running the event. That means that they would pay 500 dollars for the room and take the prize money. So that won’t work.

You could always up the entry fee and put the increase towards the venue. Like, charge $15 per tournament, and only 114 entrants (People entering multiple tournaments included as multiple entrants for this reckoning) are needed for the venue to be paid for. Any overflow could go back into a universal pot of some kind. Say you’re $60 over and have 6 games, just dump $10 into each pot.

That is not a bad idea, but I think that charging 14 per game will discourage a lot people from playing more than one game, and it just seems a little too expensive. The whole point of the tourney is to have fun, so I don’t want to get to worried about money. We can raise a lot of the money beforehand, so I don’t think that we will need to take more then 5-8% out of the total pot if it comes to that.

May 24th eh? Can’t wait. Gonna spread the word. Probably will be bringing up 10 3S players .

I’ll try and get GG to raise some of the venue money.

I think you should simply charge each individual about $3 or more for the venue fee.

I don’t want to start charging to much for people to enter and participate in the event, and I don’t want to rely solely on the attendants to pay for the room. We have three months to raise the money, and we should be able to cut down the cost by at least half by the time the tournament comes around.

Ten dollars per tournament is fair to everyone and we can take a small piece of it to help pay for the room, while still having enough for the winner.

I think having a “room fee donation pot” at the tournament would also be a good idea. Just tell everyone the situation, and let them know that if they are feeling generous and enjoy the tournament, any donation no matter how small is appreciated.

Yo, Brent!

You see the donation thread is up!

Let’s Get It!

Thanks Tempest for getting that up.

I just got confirmation today from the school that approves our event. Our room was already confirmed with the building, but the administration needed to okay it because we are inviting people from outside of UW. I also sent in our final confirmation to Kane Hall.

So UW and Kane Hall are now completely confirmed. All we have to do is here back from Namco and Arc Systems, and then we have 2 1/2 months to make PNM happen.

I’m pretty sure the guilty gear people don’t call Arc Systems so I can basically guarantee they’re cool with it… glad to hear everything’s been moving along so smoothly. I commend you on getting this set in motion Brent! tips hat

Yeah, I am pretty sure there won’t be any probem, but we still need to call them to at least try and ask.

Thanks Elias. I appreciate it.

I made a flier.

To bad I quit playing fighting games long time ago but damn I try to at least come and watch this. :stuck_out_tongue:
