2 gs is great for the Ballroom. 2gs is fantastic. The room we used last time would have come to 1,500 without all the discounts. There still may be more fees but I will get more information and find out.
Two days would be 4gs, but if that gets to ridiculous we can do it all in one day. With that much space and a full day rental, we can do a lot.
The tacoma ballroom looks sick. In case youāre still looking at Seattle, I know you guys are going for a legitimate feel (aka convention centers, hotel ballroom, etc) but I was thinking what about renting out a downtown club for a weekday? (Maybe something like the Showbox http://www.showboxonline.com/market/rental.php) It wouldnāt cost as much if it was on a weekday and thereās plenty of space if you rent out the entire club. In addition, I might be able to get a DJ for the event if people were interested in that. Also, I was thinking that Jillians (next to the water on westlake I believe) might work, I called but they were busy. Iāll try calling later.
By the way, Iām obviously new to SRK but want to get back to my roots with SF now (kind of burnt out on the other genre scenes) and thought Iād try to contribute to SOMETHING (because I obviously canāt contribute to any real gameplay threads due to just starting back up again). I was kind of surprised to see that there was a pretty strong scene for SF, etc. which Iām really excited for.
Yeah Brent. Whatās up with the sponsorship? If no big fat check, try to spin them into donating a fleet of 360s coupled with downloads for HD:R and copies of SFIV. Just donāt let them know that minorities will be attending the event. āWhen white people are alone, they give things to each other for free.ā Donāt act like itās not true.
I know Iāve linked to this clip before on SRK. But damn, it speaks to my skeptical and bigoted inner self.
Honestly I think the venue in tacoma isnāt going to be that bad, there are a few hotels near the area for out of towners, and to be quite honest iāll make that drive down for two days (that is unless I can talk to my aunt to see if I can crash at her place in northern tacoma)
Donāt forget about the Tacoma link. They have a parking garage with a link that runs by every 10 minutes or so. It should drop people at the convention center and parking is free.
Yeah, I donāt think Tacoma would be that bad, especially if we got some people to offer up carpools to and from. Itās just a matter of letting people know about carpools via the website, handouts, etc However, with it being in Tacoma, I donāt think youād get the random, casual traffic you might get if it was at a Seattle site.
I am heading down tommorow to Tacoma to check out the venue first hand, and ask more questions about pricing and other concerns. Any one interested in coming down with me to check it out?
I am going to get there at 10am. I live in Federal Way. If anyone works late or has that time free, it would be great if they could roll down with me (I can drive up to 3) so we can get more opinions. I am glad everyone seems to like it as of right now.
If anyone sees anything else that could still work, be sure to post up about it.
Wish I could come but Iām out-of-state currently. See if they would throw in some free rentals possibly like TVās, cables, chairs, tables, mics/sound system and outlet strips? Only question I can think of right now.
I went down to check out the venue today, and it really is amazing. I am going to set-up another time to look at it, and I really want someone else to come with me because it is just incredible.
The only extra cost we would have to pay would be to rent tables, but we can rent tables from other suppliers more cheaply and bring them in (they allow this).
The stage is HUGE, with giant red curtains set in three tiered layers behind a giant floor, and all the outlets we could need. Itās like the phantom of the opera.
They donāt charge extra for massive electicity use, and there are so many circuits in the room, we could hold three tournaments simultaneously and still have enough power. The main floor is as big as the old venue, and the two other floors are big enough to have a dedicated casual area with tons of space. Above that is one more floor where people can hangout or walk in, and there is a huge lobby outside the room. There is also an enormous balcony with theater style seating that could seat close to 150, with spot lights rigged from the second floor. There is a huge Marquee outside, with Giant letters that can clearly say where the event is.
300 free parking spaces around the area, with an pay parking lot five feet from the building that is only 5 dollars all day.
We would have the room from 9am to midnight, and the room required room attendant is included in the 2000 dollars.
Bad things- They need a refundable 500 dollar damage deposit, but no one has ever lost this.
Really bad things- They want payment up front from the moment of reservation. This could be a huge problem. We may have to hope that the room doesnāt get reserved while we are working out how to pay for it. We have the room on reserve for another week, after that it is fair game until we can pay it.
Wow, that place sounds amazing. What did you do last year for the grand finals? (Anything special like putting it up on a projector in addition to the TV) Because from the sounds of it the stage looks like it could be amazing for Grand Finals. They wanted 100% payment up front? Is there a way to work a deal for 50% now and 50% 2 weeks prior, etc?
Iām going to ask them to see if we can work something out. As long as they get the money at some point between now and the event, theoretically it shouldnāt matter when, but I know its not that simple.
