I have a Sammy Atomiswave/Taito Egret 2 cab with MVS hardware in there. I am trying to get a supergun too so we can run two setups. It’s $5 entry, and happens some time Sunday.
Eric: If you can’t fit this in during the day, let me know, and we will do a late night thing.
There is no soldering, they are JAMMA passthrough so it’s plug and play.
I just confirmed that strong punch is broken on my converters from SB. I’m gonna try to get someone to fix it but it prob will not be done by NEC, because I might have to order either a new fingerboard and re-soldier or whole new units from laugh.
It seems about half ST players prefer HAPP and half prefer Jap. There def is no clear majority either way. Running ST sucks because half the players will be unhappy. Converters are great but still create the problem of “I’m not playing on a machine CP” in which case we might as well run Supergun tournies.
I just want to see ST thrive but these debates and headaches are really hard on TOs (from my angle)
ST is so precise in it’s inputs, it’s hard not to be picky. As one that previously used only american controls but made the switch to japanese so that I could play anywhere and now prefer them, I urge everyone to unify around this standard.
The ST arcade machine will be in American style due to the cabinet being American and the board being the US version.
The best I can do is replace the IL sticks with the Sanwa JLWs, but I would not be able to do this during the tournament itself as it would take me 5 minutes to switch out an arcade stick due to the way the control panel is designed, and bracket changes and preferences would require me to do it too often - delaying the event itself.
As I said before, this arcade version of ST will be run using IL sticks and Happ comp buttons. If a PS1/2 converter is provided I’ll be more than happy to throw it in, and even provide my own PS1/2 extension cables so the cable can reach from the back of the cab to the front.
Who wants to go out and have a nice dinner? Hey Keits, are you coming to this!?
You know, instead of MMs.
I was also wondering if anyone would be interested in having a “juicy bits” room, in other words people can come in and ask me for help with particular things or I can break down certain matchups for you.
I’m assuming you’re volunteering to sell that converter modified to 6-button format with button config for under $40 total? If so, I may have customers for you.
Ghaleon: Ah, so you have the converters integrated to a whole Jamma setup. Is that an issue with laugh’s converter or your setup? I had an issue with switch 2 (MP) on one of my converters too (between the converter and DB15 connector) but he replaced it and the new one works fine. Can you separate the converters from the harness? If so, I can certainly replace with mine during the tourney.
If not, then Roy or anyone else who strongly prefers arcade (although I agree it’s preferable): you’d better make sure Ghaleon’s harness is ready by that time or solder it so that my converters can be attached. For those who don’t mind, krost said that his supergun will be at NEC and we can test that out. Like I said, I’ll bring mine as well for insurance. But hopefully, everyone can be satisfied.
I may be mistaken, but R0y informed me that the converter just goes into the kick harness between the CPS2 board and the kick harness itself. Plug and play. You may have had to get yours soldered due to the supergun probably being built with the kick harness installed in a different way - typically being soldered to the converter.
Yeah, we’ve cleared things up. Roy will bring the Jamma harness and I’ll bring a working converter to swap out the problematic one. We’ll be leaving the actual converters in your cab so folks don’t accidentally step on them.
So for all ST fans, everything is on plan right now. Happ parts on the cab and PS1/2 converters available for others to use their HRAPs, Mas sticks, or even PS controllers.
