Should I go to NEC this year? Last time I went, I had to fight off cockroaches in the hallways and then waiting hours to play a game, because the TVs were all dominated by games that didn’t even have tournaments (HNK, melty blood, etc., keep in mind this was several years ago).
So if I go this year, can I actually play competitive fighting games? I can bring my laptop and monitor/speakers so we can play older games like XSF/ST.
HNK was out several years ago? I know the anime was (more like eons ago) but the game came out like 2 years ago at most.
You’re worried about cockroaches? Hah…cockroaches will be your best friends compared to the exceptional looters running around last year taking people’s shit. You better make sure you still have a laptop to play SF on by the time NEC is done this year. Unless the NEC8 shopping spree was a one time thing. Maybe the cockroaches were the ones stealing everyone’s shit.
NEC is a real gutter tourney though and that’s kinda what I like about it. It’s got a real underground thing to it and it fits the real underground fighting game scene we play in. It took me 2 NEC’s to really appreciate Philly. I’m not gonna lie…the first time I came down to Philly for NEC7 I was like “we’re gonna play games in this shit hole of a city?” but after coming for the 2nd year last year and actually getting to travel around Philly I have more of an appreciation for the city. Not to mention the hardwork put forward to get this together every year despite all the obstacles inside and outside of the venue. Lets just hope people keep their hands on their own shit this year. That’ll worry me a lot more than cockroaches.
DSP is just throwing words; on top of that the one year MB was played on a console at NEC there was a tournament for it (first major it ever had, actually). It was just a casual game at NEC6 but it was on PCs then (and it’ll probably be on Superguns this year, so all of you arcade purists can either step up or go pound sand).
Every year I’ve been to NEC shit has been ganked left and right. Thankfully I haven’t been the victim of anything yet (because I’m paranoid, and the only person I leave shit with is Sp00ky, who is even more paranoid and who would also straight-up shank a bitch if they tried anything dumb).
I really do enjoy the low-rent, underground nature of the tournament. It’s much more relaxed than most other tournaments, and I like the fact that you can get a match in almost anything you could dream of.

EDIT for post below: I definitely love NEC for that reason. It’s in the same city as myself, so I don’t need to pay a bunch to go out to a major. The rooms are super cheap so people always stay in the same building, most of the time grouping up to make prices mediocre ($12 to stay in a room for 2 days? Fucking ace). Everyone there is chill and even when tournies are being ran, it still feels like everyone is having laid-back casuals. For the last two times I visited the tourney, I’ve had nothing but good feelings about the actual event. Yeah theres been a problem with stealing, but tightening up your gear is all it takes for somebody to never have to experience the pain.
Glad to be helping out, as long as Big E has his voice on Sunday we’ll know we did something right

i love nec because i pay about 100 dollars for a weekend where i get plastered and play video games with a bunch of people, and frankly, besides stolen shit, when it comes down to it, its all about the games and good times, and not about the place your playing in, its mad raw. its nothing but the barebones.
how much is entry per game? you got the addy of the place? i forgot from last year how to get there…

Now as for as the hotel goes its no where near the best but its cheap, no hardcore rules, no time limit, and no one saying you can’t do this you can’t do that.
Its way better places in Philly to do it but this is a big city the other spots would break me and take the fun out of it fun me, I don’t do this to make money or a name for myself I do it cause I really like you guys.:lovin:
As for the looting, if I catch you stealing you will wish you never were born, the law in Philly is crazy.

Trust me, nobody is going to hold anything against NEC for looting when sticks are still stolen at EVO world at least once a year. My question is, why can’t we ever catch these people in the act?
