This is north Korea trying to get america and other countries to the bargaining table. The country is starving, it’s in the middle of a change of leadership,'and they don’t have any money. Theyre acting like a child that throws a fit in a store because it’s not getting what it wants.
I noticed that no one else quoted you but anyway…
You are really out of touch if you think there isn’t a ‘cyber-war’ going on in the world right now. Even if I only read four articles all year about individuals hacking Google or Facebook or MY DAMN BANK OR hear about China hacking other people or Israel making a computer virus to wreck Iranian uranium enrichment sites there is CLEARLY cyber warfare in the world. Best get you head out the sand.:nunchuck:
And the US is handling the Mexico problem. We are just doing it the US way which means dragging our feet. The fact that you know it’s problem and pundits argue about it every night means that the pot is being stirred. Maybe Congress isn’t taking dramatic steps but it takes them forever to do anything anyway. The US government is 28.8k dial-up in a world of wireless broadband.
So that’s it then. NK shoots in SK’s direction and nothing happens. But with one dead this time we’ll see…
from what I’ve read:
China is upset by the attacks. Doesn’t mean they’d let North Korea get attacked, although at this point I can’t see the logic in them defending them anymore. Either deal with it yourself, or you start getting lumped into a group you definitely don’t wanna be in. Fuck China, it’s rare earth resources, and its ass backwards policies. The USA needs a war people can actually support, however it’s still too soon since their last war(s). If China wants to REALLY make a mark on the world, and prove they’re a superpower, they need to deal with this shit. Fuck the US. China should just go in and fucking take out Kim themselves.
Maybe it’s cuz of all the military and technology that China sells to them. Or the fact they’re technically some of the last communists around. Or the fact that China likes being able to tell the USA “no you cant attack these people, or else”. Or the fact that North Korea has the 4th largest army in the world.
Heaven forbid their population goes from 1.324 billion to 1.329 billion
At some point in time we’re gonna have to look at things from a NON FINANCIAL point of view. If China is willing to throw down trade embargo’s and withhold resources, then shut down their shit too. Stop allowing any shitty lead infested toys, toothpaste, and all their sweatshop junk that’s flooded our markets over the years, into the continent. Let them try to sell $1 crap to North Korea and Russia all they want. Bring back production (and an economy and QUALITY Made In USA products) to the US of A.
Canada has and always will be one of, if not THE largest exporter of rare earth to the US, and with global warming, the Baffin Islands will soon be accessible (as noticed when Russia tried to plant a flag there awhile ago and tell Canada it was theirs now).
China wants money these days. Supporting North Korea isn’t in their interests anymore. I suspect it would be like the Soviet Union and the Nazi’s. They’re not really enemies, but they’re not really allies. They just talk a lot of shit.
I bet the next day, North Korea will send out a warning that they will destroy the world if it happens again and South Korea will issue a strong complaint to the U.N…
Looks like business as usual at the DMZ.
I don’t know man, doesn’t NK hold nuclear weapons? I mean, China probably look to NK as a future supply for that shit just to step up in becoming the global superpower… or maybe they are afraid of NK… i don’t know?
All i know is that NK has been dangerous for awhile, there where times in the past where i actually thought that Kim guy would eventually start some shit.
I aint afraid though, i’m actually interested if this shit will progress (just as long as i’m not hurt or anything)…
edit: The koreans where actually more brutal than the Japs from what i heard in some old WW2 stories… just to insert this info.
…wow where to begin.
- China has nukes, much better ones than north Korea
- China is not afraid of north korea (for more details please consult your nearest map)
- I’m pretty sure having the largest army by number on the planet and having the US owe the an almost unimaginable amount of money makes you a pretty powerful country already.
China could shoot people at NK…think about that. NK is nothing but a ‘city’ to China
Hell, wasn’t NK happy to finally get a transcontinental missle finally? Most of the modern world could take NK out without even going nuclear…
I’m saying, just block off that part of the penninsula with Pylons, zerg rush their peon lines…and let them ‘try’ and do anything.

Isn’t Silentness in South Korea?
china actually doesn’t have nukes. they could probably engineer some relative quickly, but at the present moment they don’t and don’t really need any.
and nobody “forgot” about the cheonan sinking, it’s the sole reason why s. korea has stepped up it’s military exercises and taken back their request that the US scale down it’s presence in and around seoul. before the cheonan sunk s. korea was getting ready to begin receiving command from the US, now they want the US staying and re-upping support.
…needless to say, china isn’t happy at all. the wilder the north acts the more the south will aks the US to maintain a stong presence which is exactly what china doesn’t want. china wants the US to have a minimal presence in asia, but events and other nations (ie ASEAN summit) are conspiring against them.
Just a quick reply to this. Not even going to get into the Mexico stuff, but as for Cyberwar goes…
Hacking your facebook, or bank account is not cyberwarfare. It’s crime, plain and simple. There is a big difference between pranksters trying to be “l33t dud3s,” criminals making off big-time with spam, pop-ups and DDOS-for-hire, and actual “cyber” WAR. Big difference between those three, which comprise the bulk of crime that exists on the internet.
Yes, Iran being targted by Stuxnet is warfare. Perhaps. We don’t know who’s behind it and probably never will. That is the nature of malware, it stays secret by design. And Stuxnet was designed to be ultra-stealth. The engineering that went on to make it is remarkable and well beyond the reach of even more expert malware designers. The likely-hood, however, is that the US almost HAD to have had a hand in making it. There’s just no proof of it and there most likely never will be. Anyone who say’s Israel did it, or any other nation for that matter, is just ass-talking, because there’s no way to know… Hell, Iran could have done it to themselves in a ploy to gain sympathy and freak out other countries into thinking the same could happen to them. Not very likely, but possible. That is about the best example of a real life “cyber war” that can be cited with any real certainty. What China was up to with Google, is still largely unknown, but it doesn’t constitute WAR.
Basically, I’m saying this. The US gets hit by bots trying to gain access to it’s secure net. Everyone does. It’s the Internet… That’s not a cyberwar. The US may or may not be responsible for some attacks on other nations and then cries out “Cyberwar!!” That’s not a cyberwar.
Also, the entire argument that there is an ongoing mass cyberwar goes entirely against the basic crux of IT security in the first place.** Don’t place sensitive networks on an internet-reachable router**. Keep the entire ring off-line. Why is there a need for government level secure networks to be on the Internet? There isn’t. Cyberwar is moot to all except people who don’t understand basic networks.
Another expert opinion here.
So we’re just acting like china doesn’t have nukes now?
They lived next door to the global nuke candy store during its going out of business sale, and the nutjob living in a shack down the street has nukes but they don’t  ooooookay.
And giving them what they want when they do this only reinforces this bad behavior.
If you’ve seen those children that pitches fits in the cereal aisle in the grocery store and their parents cave later on in life, you’d want to kill them 99% of the time, because they’re still pulling the same crap. Then you’d want to kill the parents because they are still caving.
I understand North Koreans are starving. That pains me to hear about. But their government doesn’t deserve the aid we give them based on the actions they use to get it. They deserve what that child in the cereal aisle deserves, bent across the knee and paddled.
north koreans wouldn’t be fucked if their gov’t wasn’t devoting their resources to dumb shit. n. korea isn’t some african co.untry ravaged by drought and un-arable land. their climate and resources are about the same if not greater than the south yet they just continue to mismanage and fuck it up. not to mention when they actually do get aid nobody knows what the fuck happens to it.
it’s interesting that a couple of days ago the north made an offer to “dismantle” their nuclear program…at which point it was immediately discovered that they had another secret program in the works…and now they’re lobbing artillery at south korea. 3-4 weeks ago they were demanding 500,000 tons of rice in exchange for continued cross-border family reconciliations, nobody can predict what these cats are up to.
lots of innuendo, no facts. read up on china’s stances proliferation.
If this becomes something serious this time, this could put the US in an advantagous situation.
In case you guys didn’t know, President Obama visited South Korea a reciently to work out a new Free Trade agreement, among other things. It ended with Obama leaving without a deal.
In doing so, the Obama administration made a statement that it would no longer accept the unfair trade agreements South Korea has been putting on the table, particularly in regards to the automobie industry. The Clinton and Bush administration have allowed it for the sake of improved relationships with allies in the East (and exports), but Obama would have none of it, to the delight of american workers, house Democrats, and some Republicans, and to the chagrin of the rest of the Republican party, and most of the media.
Anyway, perhaps if this does turn serious, the US would use South Koreans likely request for assistance as a bargaining chip to work out a more fair and equitable trade agreement.
Just a thought.
The problem is that that money/support - won’t go to the people who need it, part of the problem with their gov’t. someone said they were the 4th largest military…how the HELL do you havre the 4th largest military at that size with no national products? Poor investing.

To the nukes!
I agree that attacks such as this are what we should base any definition of cyberwarfare on. Still, just labeling any and all politically-motivated computer crime as an act of war is a slippery slope I’d rather us not venture upon.
Yes they do. Actually they have something better than nuclear bombs they have Hydrogen bombs (bigger nuclear fusion bomb basically) just like we do.
Countries with Hydrogen bombs are.
United States, Great Britain, France, Russia, China and Israel.
Countries with just atomic bombs (nuclear fission).
North Korea, India, and Pakistan.
Obviously we think North Korea has now graduated to the nuclear fusion category with those satellite pictures.

The People’s Republic of China has developed and possessed weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and nuclear weapons. China is estimated by the Federation of American Scientists to have an arsenal of about 180 active nuclear weapon warheads and 240 total warheads as of 2009, which would make it the second smallest nuclear arsenal amongst the five major nuclear weapon states.
China’s first nuclear test took place in 1964 and first hydrogen bomb test occurred in 1967. Tests continued until 1996 when it signed the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). China has acceded to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BWC) in 1984 and ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) in 1997

Wikipedia isn’t the best source to use for legitimacy but Something has been going weird when i paste things into my posts recently.
Precisely. Compounded by the facts, as well, that Kim Jong Il leads a pretty posh lifestyle. So that aid goes straight to the military and to fatten their leader’s belly. Meanwhile the rest of the nation looks like Kate Moss clones in the worst way.
So it’s not just poor investing. It really is a spoiled kid in a grocery store.
