Seriously, how “booming” can their scene be when we haven’t even heard of it. It’s like the rest of NC puts in all this work for tournaments and gatherings and then they make a video and suddenly UNC IS BLOWING UP YOU GUYS.
Like we talked about tonight Percy, we gotta get that exposure. When we starting the web show? lol
Outside of the old winston players with Ceron at the top the only non-Winston Calibur players that I remember even being good were Doug, Jon and Blake.
The video made no claim as to our skill levels. I’ll be the first to admit I’m trash at anything that’s not SF4, though I’m definitely willing to play other games. As far as us going out to events and gatherings, it’s tough when most of us (including myself) don’t have cars and stay on campus. I was able to come to State that one time in October because it’s not too far from my house in Apex, but anything on a weekday or farther away than Raleigh is very hard for myself and the others here at UNC to make it out to. That said, I’m trying to gather some people to go to ReSe on the 17th, and I hope that we can have a more of a presence in the overall NC community in the future.
Hey everyone. Its Stirling from the video on the front page. To make some clarifications:
We are not claiming to be the only NC scene, or even to be blowing up. If you havent heard of us it is probably because we are new and fairly small, weve also been working on getting our local scene together before doing too much outreach. As I journalism student, I knew a guy who put that story together, and the video was good enough to make the front page.
But heres the thing: as an officially recognized university club, we have some resources and legitimacy behind us. We have access to a lecture venue that fits 100+ people and can support all of the TVs and consoles needed. We also have projectors, and microphones and a great soundsystem. We are working on getting streaming equipment together, and are about to talk to local businesses about advertising with us.
Most importantly: We are really excited about the community’s growth. But as D2M pointed out: We are trying to get out to the rest of the NC scene, but we are students with classes, jobs, little money, and fewer cars. We would LOVE to get involved with yall in whatever ways. We are considering getting out to charlotte soon, and I am having some SF x T day 2 casuals at my house with free beer for attendees. If any of yall are with other universities, I think that school rivalries would be super sick and would make streams a lot more fun to watch. Or If you run your own events that are close by, let us know. Ill make sure to get more active here on SRK.

With the recent exposure, I might have to make a separate group or something, we will see how it goes. I did not expect the video to blow up like that, but Im very excied and we here at UNC are just gonna roll with it!
i don’t normally visit the atlantic south matchmaking forums, but i see you guys are playing KOF. VA is hosting a KOF XIII/SoulcalV tourney in two weeks @ GMU. i’m hoping to get at leastfull 32-man bracket for this tournament. maybe it can get bigger. players like ryry, steve h, rogueyoshi, even eric kim is playing KOF13; they will all be there. it’d be tight to see some NC cats make it all the way up to VA.
the focus of this tourney is KOF and SC5; there’s no sf4 or mvc3 so KOF and Soulcalibur will be the priority. we also have 10 asus monitors and will have a h2h + projector setup for finals.
JUMP ON THIS NC!!! I know this may not pan out to be anything but might be able to colaberate and get something joint going on with all the people spread out doing their own thing.
Post up some details next time you guys are throwing something, I’m sure a lot of us would be able to make it out and see what the deal is. Couple of our players don’t live too far from there.

Edit: Just so you guys know it takes about 2 weeks for the boards to be shipped. Right now I’m trying to get a rough Idea of how many I need to order to save money on shipping/how much I need to buy. PM the general area around where you live so I can coordinate how the work will be done. Oh and I live in Greenville NC btw for those of you who don’t know me.
