North Carolina Thread LXVI

It would be cool to see him in tournaments but I know people like that, choose not to enter tournaments yet are ridiculously good at the games they play, have massive amounts of information on them and so on because they are veterans of the fighting game scene.

Information doesn’t equal wins unless you can apply it. Then again, I’m one of those crotchedly old geezers who never enters tournies anymore.

I’m just hoping I don’t get exposed as a fraud too much at FR.

So it looks like my departure from NC is going to happen a lot sooner than I had intended it to be. Parents are kicking me out, probably going to Greyhound it to either St. Louis, or Florida. It’s been fun NC, I plan on coming back to visit every once in a while. I have no clue how I’m going to get all my stuff from Miller’s to where ever the heck I’m going. See you when I see you NC!

Good luck wherever you end up.

I’d just copied it over from the other thread - it’s fixed now.

TY sir.

I hate those drive cancels. lol Jon what I do is just activate > close C > foward B > C upper > super > neomax. lol. Regular super is 752, EX super if you max cancel at the right time is 872.

For Athena, the annoying part to learn with her (at least for me) is how to get the last hit of D Phoenix Arrow to hit them. You have to wait just a bit after the j.fB to do the move - not immediately after or too close to the ground. Anyway, my combos:

command throw > activate with j.fB > 214D > EX pyscho ball > j.fB > 214D > teleport > [DP > teleport x2 or 3 (height dependent)] > teleport > neomax.
If you just want to use two bars, cut out the EX psycho ball and go straight into DP > teleports. If you want to blow more meter, you can loop using EX psycho ball in the middle there, but it won’t get you much extra damage.

Outside of HD, if you hit a 214D with them in the corner, you can use the meter/drive to do EX psycho ball > C ball > A ball > C dp. And I should mention that you can link Cs off of A psycho ball, and the C link goes into a fB to continue a combo or you could activate HD.

Midscreen, I’m not doing so much with combos/meter aside from supers and EX balls and I only get these corner combos occasionally from what I’ve played, as I’m not usually cornering people with Athena. If you’re 2-3 characters deep in their team and have meters/they’re scared, not a bad thing to go for though. Unfortunately, her neo isn’t all that great though, especially outside of combos. I also like normal super over EX super, since the CH on the normal one brings the damage up to almost what the EX does, and if the normal super hits at any point it does full damage while the EX won’t do full damage unless they were in its hitbox when you started it.

Jeff: yeah that just sounds like the universal HD bypass thing.

Fighting games are meant to be played with other people, and history has shown that you cannot become good at them in a vacuum, because the information you gather has no context and you have no real way to measure your progress. The better player is determined by winning and losing, so if you don’t play other people, how do you know where you stand? You might have more raw knowledge about the game, but you have no context to apply it in, so you cannot attach a value to it. You might know that move X has a certain counter, but if move X is never used in the context needed for that counter, that information does you no good against someone who knows what they are doing. You have to play other people, which is why gatherings are essential to becoming stronger. It’s the same reason why back in the day, Cali and NY were stronger than everyone else; they had more people playing more of the time. You cannot learn unless you fail, and if you avoid situations where failure is possible, you cannot grow. And anything that is not growing, is dying. The less you play people, the more your skills will stagnate.

Haha. You got to do better than that young one and you do have a belt test coming soon…

I’ve been in a similar situation before, so I know how it is man. Stay positive and keep your head up, you’ll be better off once the shit storm blows over and you get settled. Good luck and I’ll see you around bro.

Sounds difficult. I’ll give it a shot though, thanks for the break down. Also, we have the same Elizabeth HD combo haha. That uppercut > light slap shit is too hard IMO… better just to do the easy stuff.

I agree. Nothing is more valuable than the knowledge you get from actually playing. Knowing details can only get you so far, and although it’s useful for some things, there’s a lot more to it than study IMO. Most fights boil down to strategy, reaction, and mind games anyway. And me personally, I’d rather just do research on my own. Different people focus on different things I guess.

Don’t worry, gonna just go ahead and get my black belt at final round and call it a day.

IF YOU WANT A SPECIFIC GAME PLAYED AGAINST A SPECIFIC PERSON PLEASE SPEAK UP AND I’LL TRY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. THIS IS A SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY.

NOTE: I have been cured of Vampirism and go to bed at an old man time now. Gathering will probably end around 12-1 depending. For you late peoples, just a heads up.

Good enough young man. I will not be saying anymore to you about things pertaining to KOF. Your personality trait is recorded and filed for future questions and the automated response will be “I am not sure, you know SaiSyu…I just mash buttons”.

Anybody in the Raleigh/Cary/Chapel Hill area driving up to Final Round or going somewhere to get a ride up there?

I can’t drive far myself with my Dad’s old hand-me-down car, but I can drive to your location. Any offers appreciated.

Theoretical research is more important when you have less people to play against like our area, but yeah, nothing beats fighting a human being, otherwise you never get to apply your theory.

GGs in SCV, you guys just need to calm down vs Maxi. Too many interrupt attempts at the wrong times. Maxi dies to spacing, if you try to scrap with him then you’ll probably lose. Doug especially, you need to chill a bit on offense. Quit trying to attack like your basic pokes give you advantage on block, I got a ton of interrupts on you for that. I know online doesn’t help either, but yeah, just relax and play a more midrange game with spacing and whiff baits.

Doug doesn’t give a fuck, Blake.

sheeeeeeeeeeerug okay.

I say go and by the guide that has frame data in it and call it a night.

I have one spot left in my car for Final Round if anyone wants it.

You have to make it to Charlotte though. I am leaving at 7am on Friday. You can stay at my house Thursday night if you like to make the trip easier. I am coming back on Monday after check out.

Anyone?

Yeah a lot of it is just recognizing what leads into what. It’s not bad with Mitsu since I have 4B to get out of whatever Maxi pressure you’re doing most of the time but I was trying to feel it out without relying on that too much. I swing thinking the string is over quite a bit. Seems like Maxi either has enders that put him at advantage or enders that are punishable that do ridiculous damage. Lot of that stuff is guaranteed on counter hit too. Definitely the best Maxi yet.

Sorry for making you guys fight all my alts tonight, was weeding out who I wanna keep and who I wanna get rid of.

Looks like it’s gonna be:

Main:
Mitsu, Natsu

Secondary:
Algol, Viola

Had fun with Omega Pyrah vs Doug’s astaroth after everyone left. You shoudl really use B+K more Doug, that move is godlike. Seems like you have time to hit confirm the follow up too.

lol, I’m saying, I’ma win KoF at Final Round. Forget the tests!

As long as some Mexicans don’t randomly appear and shit on everyone haha

The nice thing about this Maxi is that most of the setups are true mixups. You generally have to respect his options out of stance, and he has good moves that are safe on block which lead into stance. There is no one universal answer to his main stance mixups now, so I can actually implement some offense. Same with versus Mitsu honestly, I can just do a safe stance starter and block/avoid 4B if I want to, or if I wanna style, I can do a stance shift to remain in stance and then auto GI when I see 4B, which can get nasty with meter.
