Yeah…small cubs who spam green hands get raped in the “D”.
You are doing great by asking questions. Continue to do your research and ignore the voices of evil.
I play street fighter 4 as well so if you need things addressed then ask me and i will give you the answer with no hassle.
Durham’s not that bad as long as you stay out of certain parts. I ended up in one of those shitty “right outside downtown but far enough away to not have any street light areas” and had to dodge some roaming street gangs late at night. Like 15 dudes just walking in the middle of the damn street looking ready to get their bloods initiation on.
Then like 4 feet past that you’re in Duke campus with a bunch of rich kids and everything’s all pretty and clean and shit. If I were a thug I’d just lurk outside that area, it’s like an Oasis in the middle of a poverty rape desert.
Gotta be careful or someone might jump out of the bushes and do this to you:
Anyway, you should take my advice and play Ryu Mike. Ken is too technical for a new player IMO if you want to play him at an competitive level. I can’t even do karagrabs and shit with him, and that’s really what makes the character good, so it’s probably better to try a character that will give you more bang for your buck.
Ken just interests me more than anyone else in the cast. Ryu is just too plain and boring to me. He has really easy to learn, hard to master stuff but I’ve only enjoyed playing Ryu in SFII. Ryu’s fire ball and DP if you jump in can really annoy, but I’ll try him out a little more sometime. Ken just excites me enough to want to learn the game and if I have an issue with execution or something I don’t mind putting in the time to improve on it with Ken.
E. Honda has a command grab and does pretty good damage without being combo execution heavy, so I might end up maining him for tournaments. First I’m just gonna worry about picking up the basics with what I like. Zangief has some interesting stuff with his green glove and 360 command grabs, but E. Honda I think would be the better choice I would choose. Plus I’ll need a secondary, which maybe I could use Ken for that in the future. I’m still trying to learn the character match ups and options.
Youtubed kara grab and much thanks for the tip. I usually use forward M. Kick to try and get in to grab, but sometimes its really hard if someone knows what you’re doing. With the kara grab you’re at least able to get the extra distance you may have needed. I practically pooped my pants once I saw how much further you can grab with Ken. With kara grab just think of it like how you roll your fingers. For Ken just hit forward and M or H kick (medium is easier, at least for me) then grab. You can hit F. and M or H Kick together then grab, but if that causes problems then you can roll from F. to M or H kick then grab. Whichever one works best.
And why in about every SC game there’s something broke with Yoshi? So good he breaks the game for you, haha.
EDIT: With kara grab the real trick is getting the timing down of M or H Kick then grab. You can just hold forward and get the timing down for the button presses and get the kara grab.
Was trying to send you a pm Will but it wasn’t going through. Anyways I stay off of Captial. Let me know what your day’s looking like. I’m gonna be going out to WNB as well.
Like Raleigh isn’t infested with all kinds of bullshit. Durham just gets advertised because who wants their capital city to be know for crime and gangs.
Raleigh= horrible use of farm land and chaotic urban sprawl. SIX-FORKS is time to get lost and welcome to die X-Men!

M.K is harder to do on pad. Use H.K instead if you’re on pad. With M.K the way I use a controller for SFIV you have to slide your thumb from B/Circle to grab which can be very tricky at times, but with practice I’m sure you can get it down. It is harder to do that method on PS3 pad than 360 since on 360 the buttons stick out more, but its still doable. With H.K you just use the shoulder button which is easier to plink with for me than M.K on pad.
Necessary evil due to Just Guard and GI, biggest difference is now you take damage even if you successfully break.
BTW, anybody remember that recent list that had Raleigh as the number one place to live in the country? Yeah, Durham was up there too. Every place has hoodlums, pick your poison.
Well I meant in regards to range, tracking, speed, etc. I want the throws to be good. I have a hypothesis that the better normal throws are in your game, the better the game is. See Virtua Fighter 4, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, Super Street Fighter II Turbo.
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure if you break on early or on time you take no damage, but if you break the throw late (there are 3 phases in which you can break a throw) then you take damage. You could also only not take damage for breaking it “early” as well, not exactly sure how it works yet.
Loving SCV so far, going to my first session up in Boston tonight to get some matches in.
By popular request next week we will be running what will be called “Flavor of the Week” small tournament which will be featuring a low key (and by low key I mean not really that big here in NC or at least we havent seen it be requested that much) game such as KOFXIII, SoulCalibur V, Tekken 6, and maybe other games…more details will be posted later.
REMEMBER!!!
Even if you dont play in the tourney come hang out and play casuals in ANY game before, after, and during tournament (as soon as setups become available)…salty runbacks, money matches, exibitions, team matches…WHATEVER YOU GUYS WANT!
This is presented by Tierless Heroes Fighting Game Community…yeah…like uhh eat vegetables and stuff…
No excuses, when I use Akuma and do an AA Demon, I have to literally shift my entire hand to be able to do it. Even though with the input leniency I could probably just do it the easy way (low forward + jab X2 and then input the rest of the demon), I choose to do it the hard way since if I play 3S I can’t get away with that. But you could always just get a stick and learn how to play on that.
I don’t know why you think I was getting upset. What I said was simple; you’re losing to Gief because you A. don’t understand him (in the case of the EX Green Hand on block) and B. seem to think that because moves don’t do what you think they should, then they’re stupid and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
None of us made the game. We play it. The rules are set by capcom, because it’s their game. SPD has huge range, and DPs are invincible. You KNOW this to be true, so you plan your gameplay around it. If you want to get better, you have to stop saying things like “horrible game programming” when it’s really just you not playing the game as it exists.
