Also I agree about the having to pay fees for a relatively UNKNOWN tournament ahead of time. Its just no good. AT ALL. Especially for someone I dont really know. You say you came to Lucky’s and played Tekken? Please refresh MY memory as to who you were.
I can also make very good argument as to why Clark can be just as good an anchor as he can a starter.
I was a black guy maining Baek and Alisa. As for the requirements of having to pay for the venue fees ahead of time, that’s because I don’t have the money myself to pay for the rental fee, so the only way to have it is if the community makes it happen by contributing to it. Last time it was a rare case that I had the money to pay it in advance. I would think that anyone who was willing to help someone bring back a community would be willing to contribute to it, because I would certainly do it if I wasn’t broker than shattered glass.
There’s no guarantee for anyone that you’re not going to run off with the money. What if you don’t get enough money for the thing and have to cancel, how do people get their cash back? What if things change and we end up not being able to go relatively last minute? It’s just not very flexible doing it that way for most people. I know it sucks but I’m just trying to be real with you and help you see it from any random persons point of view. Most people aren’t concerned with the grander “help a dying community” thing. We just wanna go to a tournament and play some people. If doing so requires we have to send money to a guy we don’t know, we’ll probably just stick with EZ or RESE, neither of which indicate a dying community.
So yeah, it’s cool that you’re trying to do that but until it’s established these tournaments are reliable, people aren’t going to put money down on it, plain and simple. There’s got to be other venues that don’t require you to pay upfront like that.
You don’t run tournaments if you don’t have the means to rent the venue. There’s always the possibility (or inevitability) in some cases that you’ll take a loss even after that. It’s the way things go with these things, and why so few people can do it. If you and some close friend(s) could scrape together the money and then repay each other after the $5-10 venue fees rolled in on-site, that would be fine too.
Large tournaments take venue fees ahead of time, but that’s just an option and at a discount. The event will be run regardless (in 99% of cases). For a local, you just have to have the resources or hookup beforehand. I wouldn’t even want to pre-pay for EZ or Lucky’s, it’s not really anything against you personally the way I see it. Say 5 people pre-pay and show up, they have 0 to 1 other person to play, having wasted their travel and venue fee, or you cancel the event and have to deal with the hassle of refunding their money. Either way, plans were made, work might have even been requested off. There are just too many things that can go wrong when this is done small scale.
speaking of pre-paying for tournaments…RDU, what’s the plan for FR looking like? I’m most likely going to the have the money to go, all I need to do is request the time off. I just need to know who from RDU is going so I can plan accordingly.
ah I didn’t know your venue was only 5 as I recalled it being 10 when I looked at one point. The point being though was that Durham is a lot cheaper gas wise than winston. The other problem being is that tournament organizing is based off a trust and seeing a commitment to understanding and improving the scene. The fact that I have never really seen you or been able to discuss your plans with you hurts my interest in coming out to see what your doing.
I thought the idea of the dates thing would help but what i’m saying is with the way people wanna hold tournaments these days it’s going to end up having a tournament every Saturday. Unfortunately I don’t believe i’ve ever met you either at any gathering or tournament yet but typically there is a gathering somewhere in NC every single tuesday/wed/thurs/friday, ez ranbats are also friday which have anywhere from 4-10 people at small gatherings and EZ Fridays will be around 8-16ish estimated.
Assume a typical month you’ll have a Gamefrog tournament usually, an EZ tournament and a ReSe tournament. The ReSe and EZ tournaments typically get around 60-100 people on a good month, I assume January the numbers may be lower due to Christmas expenses and so on and Gamefrog tournaments usually have 20 and i’ve seen around 40 at most so it’s definitely a “tournament” rather than a “ranbat or gathering”.
YOU PLAY MB NOW?! Screw it, gonna catch up with everything and as soon as I do I’m gonna give you a call. Can you play online with this one? If so, gonna hit you up too Brandino.
Heard/read something about “KOF” and “Challenge.” Don’t know who this guy is, but I’m excited. Will give my full feedback as soon as I get a chance to watch/listen to the whole thing.
Naturally. Thanks to learning the duck cancel I can now do the maximum damage combo. Still keeping it simple after playing with Justin some one night, but after learning two simple moves I can now perform about 50% more stuff. From mix-up to pressure and closing the gap so fast just after learning duck cancel a lot of the Korean videos I’ve seen make since now.
Pretty sure it’d be more worth it for Wilmington to to SC or somewhere so I agree. We definitely need a middle ground that’s good for everyone and Raleigh/Durham or Greensboro is definitely it because of it’s positioning between everyone. Honestly I wouldn’t mind if there was only one big NC tournament that everyone went to instead of this crap where you have half the people in the state going to EZ tournaments and another half going to ReSe with a select few going to both because in the end it limits the amount of people who actually end up playing each other since some will never go to Charlotte just the same as some never go to Fayetteville and at the same time it sucks that you have one half of the state playing one game and another half playing a different game so it splits up the communities of the games in a sense (Tekken/BB come to mind on the splitting of players).
Aaron and several others of us played Melty Blood for a while, at a good level too. If you can come to one of my Tuesday/Thursday gatherings, I’ll play it with you…well, the PS2 version anyway. I don’t know if I’m going to have the PC version or not…I don’t want to pirate the game at all, but buying that would be the most I’ve paid for any game ever. I’ll probably end up not playing it until there’s a more attainable legit PC version or a console version D:
Anyway, I was (am?) probably the last active MB player, I’ve entered the game in singles/teams at majors ever since then and I don’t think anyone else here has since the game was dropped in NC en masse. I didn’t do singles at NEC though, just because that venue is a pain and I don’t know if I was around for signups.
That why Brent my Idol. This dude plays everything from my beloved 3rd Strike, to Melty Blood, to Guilty Gear AC. Next time there are teams me and you are linking up again!
I’ve got PS2 version as well, so that can work too. Gonna study up on the PC version so I’m not lacking behind. With this Dark Geese guy and the Tekken 6 tournament I’m already hype this year for those two games alone. I feel a huge case of insomnia coming on.
I have no idea who this guy is, but I’ll play him myself. I don’t care where he decides to play nor if he never enters a tournament again, but this sounds fun and challenging. And its KOF. I have a pretty good idea of why he made the vid, what he said in it not being it, but who cares. Just gonna play the exclusive console version character on this one. Money matches? Naaaaaah…maybe.
They need to stop making anime games. They distract some of our better talent, and there’s SO FUCKING MANY.
Seriously, I might play the new BB, and I’ll definitely play the new GG, but fuck all this other stuff. Aqua pizza sad lifing it up with some guy who lives in his car or the dude who sleeps with his hentai sex pillow, MBing out with a bronie who faps to clop clop. Don’t ask me why I know that term. Trying to think of some other anime player arctypes. But yeah, long story short GOD DAMNIT
hi folks. greensboro resident here, semi-new to fighting games (I’ve played mortal kombat and street fighter since the snes days, but only recently started trying to take it seriously and level up my game). basically just looking for people to play with right now cuz none of my friends like fighting games even casually. is there much of a scene in greensboro? I saw that there’s been a couple of sessions in the last few weeks but I don’t see anything upcoming.
I play SF4, MK, BlazBlue and Tekken (the latter two more casually). I’m better than a noob but probably not as good as you.
Greensboro is actually one of the bigger scenes and we have sessions pretty frequently. Were having one today at 803 quail cove ct Greensboro NC 27406(Jordyn’s House) at 8:00. Jordyn said this session will mainly be an AE/KOF session. All games and setups will be played on 360.
