North Carolina Thread LXIV

I’ll be at EZ pretty early today but I’ll also be leaving early to go watch UFC 140 at BWW, I’ll be back when it’s over though. If anyone still wants the weekly to go down I can still setup the brackets for y’all and have someone run them and do payouts. If not just have it be a regular session.

Speaking of that i’ll be there with a crew of 3 from Cary next Friday.

Definitely man, had a lot of fun fighting your Joe. If you’re still in NC for a little bit you’re more than welcome to come out again before you leave and get some games.

Would you be down for some KoF this weekend or next week?

Alright cool, thanks for the heads up!

And yeah, it’s kinda hard to go from SF to MVC, it’s like going from being a slug to a cheetah, pretty much polar opposites as far as the speed of the games and how they’re played.

Yeah, We can do d@. I’ll Call ya this afternoon & figure something out for this Weekend.

I’m off work until the 9th and I wanna play some games, hit me up.

Well Tami is out at her parents and I don’t got shit to do. People can come over again if they want today. Just hit me up on my cell and let me know if you’re coming.

nihonshu so goooooooood

Alright so I’m having a lot more fun with KOF XIII now. I’m playing Clark/EX Iori/Shen but I’m not sure what the optimal order is. I understand the concept that the 1st character should have good meterless damage while the 3rd character should have good meter damage, which is why I’m playing them in the current order that they are. I just want to know if there’s anything else I should consider with my team order. Also I’m thinking of dropping EX Iori cause I hate using DLC characters. Nothing is more disappointing then playing on a setup just to realize that it doesn’t have the appropriate DLC. I tried the new Iori and I just don’t like him and none of the other characters have immediate appeal to me.

So about that tournament in Winston in a few weeks are yall coming? What about this venue fee that needs to be paid by the 5th of Jan?

I’m just confused about some things and I lost the dudes number. The first one had a weak turnout because everyone was at Rese but I went anyway.

Considering theres no rival tournament that weekend in NC, and he’s also having a Madden tournament…which makes me the slightest bit skeptical there could actually be a nice turnout. But again, I just need more information.

Also, you might as well have SCV. If need be I can bring my TV, and PS3. Whatev.

There’s a tournament at gamefrog actually so yea their going to be competing a bit and I know personally i’m going to go to gamefrog since Saisyu alone is worth it for the KoF experience, cheaper venue fee, less of a drive and I know more people heading there than at the winston tournament.

Gonna close out the new year with a discussion question. May post it in multiple places in case you see it more than once.

What are people’s opinions on the concept of patches? I word it that way since I know there’s been comments about how Mortal Kombat’s patches affected its scene. It could be argued that the game needed it considering some of the initial concerns when released and perhaps a bit of overcompensating due to some of the problems MK vs DCU had that never got patched and trying to show their dedication to getting it “right”. Some games in other genres such as League of Legends patch rather often, though fighting games have different gameplay cycles and different needs.

It could be argued that a lot may come down to timing. There probably shouldn’t be any patches within the first month outside of hotfixes and the patches that do come out should be on semi regular and pre-announced schedules (quarterly?). With that, a game would have room to grow naturally and anything patched out would be in given time frames so tournament organizers and entrants could better plan for the changes. This also applies to DLC. I feel Day One DLC that’s actual characters should either be adjusted in the development cycle so it’s naturally part of the game or held off a few months. This could potentially aid the companies by maintaining a game’s momentum later in the life cycle, plus adding another revenue stream without customers feeling like they’re geting ripped off.

Guess I tend to have things on my mind from a development standpoint, especially with fighting games picking back up in America and more actually being made here.

Well, you can’t compare a console game that’s not a full live title to a PC game that is a full live title. What I mean by that is League of Legends operates the game primarily online and has a live team dedicated to online development of one title/product/game where MK may not. Live titles are more likely to have frequent updates because it’s primarily a live title versus ones that are not due to the fact as mentioned above with having a live team versus those that do not.

I don’t know much about MK, but the amount of players who play it online competitively against other players also may be dramatically small compared to the amount who play it casually solo too. League of Legends on the other hand is 100% online both casually and competitively on the other hand.

Another thing to consider is that console developers may not be used to the updates of live titles like PC games. The production pipelines may be different as well the focuses. But, you never know.

Apples and oranges really.

Yo guys, if your having problems with keyconfig or w/e in melty PM me I got a program that does it really nice and easy that we should probably be using it. Also quick note set MBAA priority to high in task manager to prevent random processes causing lag in a tourney enviroment this also dramatically helps netplay.

Team order really depends on the characters you are playing. Shen fits anywhere on a team, really, because he can do a ton of damage in multiple positions and he’s very strong offensively. I was running Shen/K’/Hwa today at Ed’s and Shen does wonderfully as a point character.

Moreso than meter management, your team order needs to take your character’s individual abilities into consideration. Using the team mentioned above again, I came to realize while playing today that I don’t like Hwa as anchor. Even though he can do a lot with meter in his hands, he struggles in certain matchups, particularly against zoners. A character like that doesn’t need to be your anchor, because you don’t want everything riding on that character and then run up against a bad matchup. On the other hand, I was running the team as K’/Hwa/Shen earlier in the week, and that order works much better because Shen doesn’t really have any bad matchups, while being extremely deadly with meter. Hwa in the middle works well because he still has bar to play with, giving you access to drunk Hwa and command grab setups.

Aside from that, when taking bar into consideration, focus more on how characters utilize the Drive bar at first, with super stocks being second. For example, while my point character should be saving bar, I don’t mind using resources to KO a character if possible. However, I almost always want to use a stock before using Drive if I can, since Drive tends to lead to more damage for most characters. You want to save that for the next character in line so you can potentially KO them quickly if you get an opening.

It just feels like my team of Clark/EX Iori/Shen can work well in any order so I’m at a lost as to what I should consider the most optimal order. Shen seems to be a pretty common anchor so I’m comfortable with keeping him 3rd. As for Clark and EX Iori they feel interchangeable. Also I read that it’s better for your point to use drive over stock if needed since drive get refilled faster. I think I read it on the SRK wiki, so I’m getting conflicting advise.

just use whatever team order you feel like, bro.

yo i need to practice bad but i havent bought a 360 yet… im in rocky mount

did your last account get banned or something?

This is how I currently see it with my team:

Mai (on point because her main strength is her normals, and she does good HD/drive cancel damage with zero stocks)
Elisabeth or Terry (I think this is determined by whether I’m fighting an offensive or defensive player, but anyway Betty is good with stocks yet I use no drive with her at all usually while I burn a moderate amount of both resources with Terry)
Yuri (she’s a monster)

I often consider running Mai last since her neomax is good and her confirms into HD is easy and has a combo I can easily do for good damage, but this all depends on how well I can end up playing Yuri. She’s got all the tools you need to do well in this game, only potential weakness I see being her ground normals, excepting sweep. Anchor Terry is potentially a decent idea, and I like not having to worry about being in the corner to hurt people, but as knowledge gets higher I imagine he’ll be blown up.

yeah and dont know why… it wouldnt let me sign out of ill Sim… but is anybody near rocky mount i really wanna play
