So got a little time to test a couple things out in KOF today. Used Clark as the grappler dummy for Kyo, Ben, Daimon, Terry, Andy, Joe, and Maxima. ALL can alternate guard. I heard from Majin Van Putten that in the arcade version Maxima and some others couldn’t do it (which confirms what astral was saying), but they fixed that issue in the console version. If someone wants to test some other characters feel free, but those are the results I’ve come up with.
Also for Clark along with using his grapple in a combo, you can smartly whiff his command grab to help build meter. Examples after knocking an opponent down or when your opponent is back hopping/dashing. Second example may not work too well against zoning characters.
I still don’t get why NC is determined to lag behind other areas because of this random new two weeks rule that nobody is following considering i’m watching a 5v5 socal tournament stream (edit: 5v5 tournament QUALIFIERS stream which the word qualifiers would indicate there’s going to be something even bigger than this where he’s allowed) where flame iori is allowed, and also he’s allowed at other tournaments looking at threads for them.
It’s like Ultimate Marvel coming out and then you guys saying “Oh we can’t have tournament for it until two weeks after release so people can get used to the new characters or changes”. I just want some reasoning behind this random ass rule because if anything it would be better to run him in tournaments and give people the chance to use him in tournament level play to determine whether he’s bannable or not until the official communities determine he shouldn’t be playable.
I agree with that but it is what it is. I don’t know what half the characters do in KoF… I was learning as I went yesterday. Woulda made no difference to me if they were DLC or a regular character.
GGs to everyone yesterday. Arstal, if you seriously quit YOUR game after like a week of KoF pre online patch, I have no words for you. That said, if your job really rapes your free time that hard, it’s kind of pointless to play fighting games.
I’m still loving this game, still no complaints after yesterday. Found out Kensou can punish Kyo’s double kicks with command grab so I don’t think I’ll have to worry about that too much lol. Hope some people step it up in Marvel. Will is leaving and there isn’t going to be much comp after that. NC seems permanently stuck in whiner mode and won’t level up in anything. People are too concerned with discussing what they don’t like instead of discussing how to get around the stuff that bothers them.
That’s true, it’s like I am not aiming to play the character but I don’t think he should be banned until proven “guilty” of being broken. It’s that I want to get big in this game and I don’t want to lose to an EX Iori because NC is stuck on banning him at tournaments when there’s been no indication of him being broken so that’s why I want clarification on who started this random two weeks rule and why we are following it when nobody else is. Also yea i’m finding quite a few punishes for the double kicks but still experimenting with various characters. I didn’t know Kensou had a command grab either so that’s interesting. He seems like your type of character because he reminded me of Fei Long.
Also this isn’t aimed at anyone i’m not trying to talk shit I just want to understand the reasoning behind NC doing something that everyone else isn’t following.
Yeah Kensou is Fei Long minus good pokes and minus a DP… wait that’s actually everything good about Fei lol. But yeah I can see the similarities. His fireball traps are really strong. Ended up taking him on my team instead of andy since I feel andy is too… straight forward.
NC always does stuff like that, even Demo said last night in the car that he doesn’t think FLames Iori is broke. I listed the stuff I found. But people want to keep it on the cautious side and not risk getting beat by BS, and I can understand that. I don’t know if anyone would have used him regardless.
Either way, what is done is done. By the next tournament, he’ll be legal.
People will just have to be sad in two weeks then because im playing EX Kyo.
I know im no KoF master or anything but I feel as if I know enough to tell you that EX Iori doesnt have anything thus far that warrants a ban, and if nobody is fucking playing him we wont ever find out.
Now lets talk about yesterday. I had a blast as always, things ran smoothly and time is NEVER an issue when it comes to ReSe. I gotta give it to Brian and his crew for being consistent in that department. Now im going to address some things, and I dont want this to come off as salty because its definitely not.
MK is most definitely dead on this side of NC. Jon and I both knew enterting yesterday was a bad idea considering we hadnt played in at least two full months. But we were both needed to have a full bracket so we figured, what the hell? Thats $10 wasted lol.
KoF. So what happened to all the hype and talking people were doing? I mean not saying the entries were low but I did kind of expect a larger tournament. I will also be hitting the lab hard on that because nothing against Jon, but I most definitely lost to some trickery. That fireball into trip guard trap probably has a very simple solution and I intend to find it out. Kinda like how when the game first released I was cheesing wins out with Clark, I gotta figure out that Kensou gimmick. Gonna be experimenting with a few more characters in the comning weeks as well. So dont get too used to what youve seen so far.
Now for something a little more serious. I have to ask this question but how are the brackets made at ReSe? Is it seeded, random, or by order of registration? Im not complaining because I always have fun but the past two tournaments ive attended for Tekken ive been matched against PokChop in the first round. Now if we are going by results I would be no lower than the #3 seed. Problem im having is that if Pokchop is seeded #1 (seeing as how hes at the TOP of the bracket) how am I always matched with him first game. Being on the same side of the bracket, I can understand…but playing him for my first game two in a row is questionable. First time was cute and funny, second time was not. Another thing is that Jon and I were on the same side of the bracket in KoF yesterday, literally like a match apart…which struck me as weird considering we travelled together. I mean whenever I make brackets at EZ or GF I go out of my way to seed by results, and to make sure that people who rode together or are from the same region are spread across the bracket. Not trying to start ANY type of controversy but I also wont just let this go without mentioning.
I agree on the seeding, could definitely use some work.
I honestly didn’t expect my Kensou to put in as much work as he did. I just noticed he had a good sweep, that it was special cancelable, and that it seemed to leave him advantage on block. Plus it’s whiff cancelable so it seemed like if you jumped the sweep you got hit by the fireball anyway. Plus his stand D is a good anti air and also special cancelable, but also hits grounded, so it seemed really effective at just forcing people to sit there and take it. There’s a sizeable gap between the sweep and the fireball though so you could roll, reversal, or possibly even super jump out… would require some testing.
I think my Duo Lon still put in the most work though, Kensou was just in the back to clean up for him.
Well, I’d never thought I’d see the day where Matt Frank would love KOF a lot more than I do, but here we are.
RE Demo: That Kensou tech is pretty old. Not saying it isn’t good or effective, because it is, but that’s classic 98 Kensou stuff.
Because quite literally, nobody at the tournament had him on their system. We had no way of guaranteeing he would be there.
I know DeMo said he would bring his system, but his car could’ve broken down or something on his 3-hour drive over here.
As I said before, my problem with him and EX Kyo has nothing to do with how broken they are or not, but with how SNKP is handling DLC for the game.
To be fair though, you were also utilizing his rekka mix-up and super grabs very well.
Kensou didn’t have the rekkas until KOF 12 and his super grab (which were actually proximity unblockables) wasn’t as good until this game.
We had him on two consoles at ReSe, now if that was the actual reason then ok that’s totally reasonable if we just didn’t have enough people with the character but thats no excuse to ban him at EZ then where there will be 3 consoles minimum with him on it that’s assuming DeMo doesn’t bring his console and that Seventh Fonon who also is riding with me doesn’t buy him either, 3 systems is still plenty good.
I hear the R though? I’m trying really hard to not hear it. It can almost sound like a half W half R sound, but it’s really hard to make myself try to hear that.
BTW the two week ban on DLC is pretty much something that I think is community-wide. He’ll be legal at the next tournament. I think claw Iori and regular Kyo will be stronger then the DLC versions anyways. You’ll see it pop up again for the other DLC. No one thinks he’s broke, they’re just not sure yet and being cautious. The thinking was that if you make him legal day 1 and something happens, there will be big ban drama and could wreck the community. That’s what they’re trying to prevent- and I think this is a pretty smart compromise.
Also, SNK said they wanted to make the DLC strong , and that made people nervous.
That AG change, I"m not surprised. The Japanese like AG- it was taken out of 98UM beta, but people wanted it back in so it was put back into 98UM release. I think it’s stupid as hell personally, but it’s not gamebreaking (you can bust it). AG seems a little easier to do in this game as well then before, I tested it out myself- I can do it, but remembering that I can do it is sometimes hard for me.
Also whiffing moves to build meter is super-risky in this KOF, especially since most moves don’t give that much- most of the spamming specials to gain meter was nerfed hard from console to arcade. Also it’s screaming you to get tagged, most chars have something full screen that can punish hard.
As for my own life- it is rather pointless for me to keep going given my job and the lack of time on weekends. It’s the price I pay for my job, and I don’t mind paying it. This is why I am getting out of it after FR, I’m just putting one last push into it now, since well, this WAS my series (though again, this game appeals to modern players more then old school KOFers).
I’d probably just play online, or run local sessions for games I care about at my place after that.
(that’s going to be finished being built around FR time also)
It isn’t community wide though because the Socal Qualifiers for the 5v5 tournament between Norcal and Socal for KOF13 were using him today and there are other places around the world for tournaments saying ALL DLC IS ALLOWED because of the idea that there’s no reason to ban something until their proven to be ban worthy. On a side note though I really do hope you can continue KOF13. You and the other old school KoFers even though it’s not like the older ones as much you gotta show us how it’s done you know.
I am going to continue playing it, at least until Jan.31. Just really frustrated with the online, and I think I’m complete trash at this game, which doesn’t help.
