Well, we play all night into the morning at EZ, so you can always come when you get off. We will be there. Also I host on Thursday’s at my place normally. Not lately cz I have been working late the last 2 weeks. Also EZ is 24 hours and Nathan is normally there, so if you wanna play just post and some of us can meet you there if we aren’t busy.:wink:

If you know what it’s for, why are you complaining so much? The cross up becomes a threat again when your opponent gets tired of push blocking you when you just continue your rush anyway. Someone who continuously push blocks, I’ll just run Stinger -> Bold Move to air dash H over and over on them until they get sick of it. Then they block a box jump H once and don’t push, so then you immediately box jump again and cross them up.

Again, you can execute it faster, so you get to the invincible part sooner than you think. The problem is that you’re trying to use it to go through beams and stuff like that, which isn’t what the move was intended for. That’s why they nerfed the invincibility in the first place. Hammer isn’t meant to just blast through everything, it has a specific use in his air offense, as a counter to people who try to swing on Dante when he’s rushing them down with his air dashes and Bold Move offense.

I don’t see it working for that purpose though. You air dash in, try to swing at them with hammer once you get into range for it and they’ve already counter poked you before it even went active. 11 frames is a lot of time on that move.

So yeah, Skyward Sword is awesome. So is Tekken Hybrid. So is Skyward Sword. But I must say, Skyward Sword is pretty awesome too.

No sir, you misunderstand. Hammer is for when you’re already close. At far range, if you think someone will do something to your air dash, you throw Air Play first and watch them sit there with their thumb up their ass. Between Air Play and Hammer, Dante can no sell pretty much anything your opponent has to offer to stop his air based offense.

Actually I was thinking about the timing of the invincibility and I THINK what they intended was for hammer to be used after making them block something else, IE in the double overhead setups. The invincibility is slow enough that it can’t be used to blow through stuff but it covers the active frames so if you do, say, j.H into hammer, if they try to swing in between the gap from j.H > Hammer, they’ll have been in block stun long enough to cover up to the invincibility. Just a theory but judging by the frames, it’d make the most sense.

So yeah, I think Clark is much better now. Not really good, but at least competitive. I’d say about 80-90% of the KOF XIII cast is viable now.

What do people think about Billy and Saiki being tourney legal? It may be a bit too early to decide, but while I think the playable Saiki was meant for by the developers for tournament use, he MIGHT be a little too good.
Billy seems fine to me, though.

Fastest Hammer is 24 frames. If we assume j.H has the same blockstun as s.H, 21 frames, that would leave only a 3 frame gap for someone to hit a button. I don’t think that was the purpose.

Looking at more frames, Stinger inflicts a massive 26 frames of guard stun. Stinger -> Bold Move is about +10 for Dante. If Dante does Stinger -> Bold Move, Hammer, even though the fastest Hammer is 24 frames, by the time your opponent can move again, the invincibility for Hammer has kicked in, so if they swing, they’ll get pounded into the ground for a free combo. I’m telling you, whoever the guy at Capcom is who worked on rebalancing Dante, he knew what he was doing.

Regarding KOF XIII, all I have to say is, screw SNK for K’ Trial #8. Seriously. What a bunch of jerks.

See the problem with Stinger > bold move > hammer is that if they push block (which they will be mashing on vigorously with dante), you’re out of range because hammer has to be pretty close to make contact. I always saw hammer either used to stop people approaching or as a double overhead, really never saw people just jumping into the other guys face and doing it, and I think there’s a reason behind that.

Not to keep arguing about hammer though, it’s just, all theory fighter aside, I don’t think it has much use in dante’s game now outside of a few specific things. We’ll see if that holds true and I’ll be happy to be proven wrong.

So hammer is still good, you just can’t spam it as much as before? Now you actually have to have strategy behind when using it?

Soooo, we’re just gonna ignore what I was talking about earlier. People who push block all day are gonna be seeing plenty of air dash H and Air Play in their future. Seriously, I have no problem hammering on someone’s guard until they eventually get shoved in the corner.

The metagame breaks down pretty simply. Dante does blockstring into Bold Move and it flows like this:

  1. Opponent push blocks, pressure with air dash attacks, use Air Play to make people respect.
  2. Opponent doesn’t push block, run left/right with air dash attacks, use Hammer to make people respect.

Yeah, the reason is they aren’t on my level. Get up there, son.

In all seriousness, most people played Dante’s range to their advantage. Most people didn’t try to play a rushdown Dante, so they never really investigated how to use Bold Move in conjunction with the air dash and his good specials for controlling the ground. That and Vanilla was only out for six months and people were too busy finding one touch death to really contemplate strategy. Just because you’ve never seen it used that way doesn’t mean that it can’t be used that way.

If you think all I’ve been talking about is theory fighter, then go ask Erik about the last time he played my Dante and see how theoretical he thought it was. Everything I’m talking about here is stuff that I’ve applied in matches.

What’s really funny about all this is that this is stuff that was known day 1 when the game came out, it’s just that nobody ever did it. I myself had to have a moment that pretty much bordered on epiphany in order to realize just how good this was.

You should play more then. You always have this effective stuff figured out but then you’re ghost 99% of the time. Come to tournaments and prove it works!
