Yo Alice-Chan, mind if I catch a ride with you if you go?
Yea it’s not a problem at all. That’s why I offered on fb since you’ll be in the area. Any particular time you need to be back wherever? Just message me the address to pick you up at.
I agree with your general sentiment, but you can’t really compare KOF XIII to MvC3 in any tangential way, they are two completely different beasts.
There nothing close to as scrubby in 13 as X-Factor Level 3 Akuma and Wesker running through your team in 5 seconds, or the whole “block an assist that keeps you in blockstun for 3 seconds while Magneto/Dante/Vergil are in your face hitting you in 3 directions at once”, or the even worse shit in Vanilla (Dark Phoenix teleports and mashes L in air which you have to block low and opposite direction even though it looks like she’s in the air in front of you).
If you do a 100% HD combo, it’s because you earned it by:
A) legitimately opening up your opponent
B) saving your HD meter and all your supers, which usually take over a full round to build up. Meter does not come by cheap in KOF, whereas in Marvel characters can earn meter for ToDs in their BnBs at the start of the round.
Also, I’d say that KOF13 is fairly significantly different than older KOFs, intentionally dumbed down a little so that new KOF players are able to get into it.
All the Ultimate hate is so preemptive. The only reason it seems like these games are so easy to pick up and learn is because the knowledge is so accessible now.
Back in the Marvel 2 days nobody discussed hardcore strats on the boards. You ask a question on the forums and there was a 99% chance you got flamed. You dont understand unblockable setups? Oh fucking well! All the crews would hoard the information so they could make your mouth drop at a tournament. I’m not defending Marvel 3’s bullshit, I’m just saying its not hard to be a superstar when we have a high-level stream 3 days a week, a major tournament almost every 2-3 months and a forum of members with video capture software picking this game apart.
Complaining about the week one shit is so wack IMO. Because after Ultimate was announced we started finding so much crazy shit but by that time it was already too late, like how Tron drill assist can kill phoenix without turning her dark, or that Super Skrull had a corner infinite. We really didnt have anough time on that game, so to say this or that is unfair is unjust because well…obviously not enough time was spent finding a proper counter to said strategy. That means that for all the stuff people complain about, its X amount of time required to make something previously thought of as rage inducing a scrub strat. Thats why initial bullshit shouldnt bother anyone, yes Ultimate is like vanilla 2.0 but its still a new game.
The game has a simplistic approach, but compared to vanilla this game isnt bad, and most of the characters have their fair share of bullshit so it evens itself out. Saying how easy it is to kill with ABCS>ABCS combos is a moot point since we all play fighting games competitively, if you had to work to learn how to do the big damage ultimately we would still reach a point where everyone was doing the same big damage combos. I just dont get the complaints. Wesker is still a bunch of BS but theres always going to be that one character who has more than he needs. If you get 100% by Doom pat that man on the back. AFAIC the better player is going to win regardless of how “easy” a game might be. DHC glitch was the real problem because it limited team dynamics to otg slide/otg assist/dhc glitch character. Theres a whole new world of possibility in this game just because a few characters can break 800-900k with one meter doesnt discourage me from playing, and it shouldnt discourage you either. Touch of death is just the name of the game, you cant be mad that Wesker is going to eat you up with 5 hits…JON if you ready to blow your X-factor on Dr. Strange’s touch of death. Everyones out for the same thing in this game, you cant be mad at the other player for getting to it first. Marvel is about breaking down the other persons team, characters die fast. Thats just how it is.
I’m not trying to scrub it out in a game I clearly cant play like Blazblue and then feel entitled to smash on Marvel when im garbage in a so-called better game. Not saying thats what any of yall are doing, I’m just saying. I kinda put all my eggs in one basket with MvC3 waiting on Soul Calibur 5 so its lame to see people abandoning that because its “too easy” like its any easier than any other game where top tier can kill you with a few meters.
Was trying to get that set up all this week but did not come through. Guess it will be your digital cam and some launch day vids to make do till then. I have had a chance to play the game in the arcade version so I can teach you most of what you should know to get started.
“Read a Book” full screen reversal + X-factor 1,2,or 3 combo that was posted earlier was funny as shit.

This is your monthly reminder that Accent Core exists and is better than all the other games being talked about in this thread.
Ah thanks, yea definitely gonna need to sit down. I actually am going to own two copies for the game. The early one I bought from Demo is 360 and had the ps3 one preordered in full. On the system + game i’m bringing will have both Saiki and Billy Kane unlocked assuming what I heard about unlocking Saiki is true.
C’mon man, it’s not like you don’t have other options. If you put all your eggs into one basket, then you have to deal with it when people stomp on that basket.
It’s also not THAT hard to learn MvC3 and run top-tier cheap shit, so you really don’t have time to learn other games because…why, exactly? Too many boring bitchslaps with fire in them?
Also…Soul Calibur 5? Really? Eww…just eww.
Cool.
There’s no need to complain about UMvC3 yet. Its a fresh start, period. So some combos don’t work anymore or they tweaked my characters to all hell. Adjust, its that simple or did everyone want to play MvC3 + 12 DLC characters. I honestly think that the internet age has hurt in terms of this game. I mean with MvC2 we had to unlock at least half the roster without any real knowledge of what the characters were or what kind of game they could play. It led to some anticipation and a journey into the unknown. Now-a-days I’m seeing people on here claiming they were Dr. Strange Day one months before the game even drops. So now you see people saying I don’t like what they did with so and so character and claiming the game is trash or stupid without even really playing 2/3rds of the roster. If that was the case then I won’t touch KOF or ever play SF 4 and beyond anymore because they have my character even in the game(Yamazaki and Urien respectively). If you honestly think the game sucks then don’t play it, but otherwise just tough it out and find out some more broken shit.
Edit: This is not meant at anyone individual, just a general comment
and once again it all boils down to play the games you like and stfu about what others are playing. you end up coming off like a bitch.
I like tekken and kof. so I play them. I don’t dislike marvel. there are just certain gameplay nuances I don’t like, so its not something I can seriously see myself playing competitively.
Am I the only one who would play a game because there is a move that is a bitchslap and an EX move that is a bitchslap but on fire. I already promised some of the locals guys KOFXIII on tuesday so I’m not going to show up to the release gathering.
Soul Calibur was my first competitive scene I have to have faith with each new version
I play Tekken but only because the last 2 SC games have been very disappointing. Kof 13 looks ok but I’m not interested. In a perfect world I would have a stick to play jojos bizzare adventure and GGReloaded. But thats not realistic…and blazblue is the lamest of them all so…ill just hold on to marvel.
Despite everything I do have some sort of faith in Soul Calibur 5. But the scene is utterly ridiculous the level of crybabyness rivals the smash community. I can’t stomach 8wayrun anymore and I used to be a mod over there.
I like all the old Street Fighter games, but hate SF4. Despite any “hype” that could possibly exist for it.
YES. In order for you to do big damage in KOF XIII you have to have timing, precession, and execution. Not only that but have the meter you saved up in order to pull it off. No meter, no big damage combos. Gonna have to outsmart your opponent, bait and footsie your way in, and punish them. You know, actually think while you play. Not “Here’s my assist attacking you, but you have to block this way instead because you didn’t see me teleport while my assist was attacking you.”
I thought about using the second layout, but I think people who mainly play fighters such as BB or AH will go for it. I’ve mainly been playing Tekken so I’ve been using the first layout.
Do you mean all the pot whores who enter SF4 and MvC3 tournaments? In order to make money from playing a game in a tournament you have to win or at least place high enough. The part that saddens my heart is that a large percentage of the people who get hype about these type of games are not only throwing every dollar and cent they can pull out of the couch at it, but enter these tournaments where all they end up doing is adding more wood to a fire that’s not keeping them warm. I like Guilty Gear and yes I’m gonna play it regardless if people aren’t hosting it at tournaments. Now I may not be sitting down trying to perfectly execute combos and such, but I’m playing it and enjoying it because its a fun game I like to play. To trade in “Playing a fun game I like to play” with “Playing a bad game for the sake of entering massive bracket tournaments that I don’t win or even place high in” just doesn’t compute with me.
People trying to eat up “Daigo said SF4 is his favorite fighting game.” Well he’s more than likely getting his biggest tournament payouts in his gaming career from SF4 tournaments thanks to so many pot whores who enter. That and the fact he’s on Team MadCatz which primarily pushes Capcom games. So yeah, it would probably be my favorite too if I was Daigo. I’m not, so I still dislike it.
EDIT: But back to my main point, I just hate the fact that people would still dislike KOF XIII just because its not made by Capcom. Then turn around and accept countless things they complain about in a game and continue to play it, disregarding the game that has all the things they want in a “good” fighting game. If you like SF4 and/or MvC3, then continue to play what you like. But please don’t overlook a fighting game, especially a “good” one such as KOF XIII, just because it wasn’t made by Capcom. There’s been more talk about SFxT, a game that doesn’t even have a release date yet, then KOF XIII which people have been able to get their hands on since the PC arcade leak. KOF XIII is a great game and I support it. I just want to see people who support good fighting games support it as well and not sacrifice their dignity for sub-par standards.
And yet, with all the “timing, precision and execution” necessary to do those long combos in XIII, people are still gonna bitch their heads off when they start getting hit by that stuff regularly. As far as saving up your meters, that’s why there are combos on the front page with Takuma that start with literally no bar and half HD gauge that subsequently lead to a TOD combo.
I understand that Marvel 3 is the easy cheese game, that’s how Marvel series has always been. But again, people are rushing to judge Ultimate within the first week it’s out. Mentioning how meter is not easy to come by in XIII, the reduced meter gain is one of the biggest changes in Ultimate. People are scrambling to find TODs with characters, and you definitely see some high damage stuff at low cost, but most characters are having to literally burn through meter like crazy to get Vanilla damage. But no, it’s the same stuff all over again according to everyone who played the game for a couple of days.
I’m not even trying to defend Marvel really, it’s just irritating to me how people make these snap judgments and won’t even give games a chance, while simultaneously hyping up a game that they’ll probably drop in a month. It goes the same way with KOF, you guys are talking about how it’s more fundamental and you have to earn your hits, but some of those same people are gonna be whining when some old school KOFer hyper hops all over your face and you eat fat combos all day.
Alot of that makes sense DHC glitch being gone and meter gain drop is a world of difference. But Marvel is still Marvel I don’t know why but I just don’t like the footsies and neutral game in it.
Ultimate is like when super came out and DP>FADC>ultra with Sagat was no longer the dumbest thing in the game. It was a better game because of it but it was still SFIV.
Who in here plays only capcom games and excludes non capcom fighters. Not me. O think Kof is just weak in the us and Kof players made up some story about how capcom fans are “brainwashed” or something ridiculous.
God damn. You said that.
Nice try, but all those combos are from the arcade version. They changed that stuff in the console version. Check back to see if Vol. 3 has any broken stuff they find out.
First week they found out that Vergil and Spencer can kill a character alone, without any assists. And that’s just a couple of them that I just happened to come across by accident. Dante I believe can too. But again if I’m mistaken you may need a good battery, call Vergil or Dante in, then have them TOD. Spencer is just a beast.
I’d rather get beaten by a skilled old school KOFer than an unskilled new school MvCer. My main issue is that people will see the problems with MvC3, complain about it, and still play it while continue to argue about the same stuff. They’d rather fight to stay awake playing SF4 then turn to something that they could play for days non stop. Why? Because its Capcom, so no matter how much BS may be in it they just have to play it. But no matter how good a game may be, if its not Capcom then its not worth playing. Its not that I’m saying don’t give MvC3 a chance, I’m just saying don’t push KOF to the side just because its not a Capcom game. If the company names behind the games were reversed everyone would be trading in their copy of MvC3 for KOF XIII if they actually bought it before picking up their pre-order Tuesday.
