North Carolina Thread LXIII

No I’m pretty sure this is legit.

Dont ruin my moment. I want to think in my head most of these characters are useless. I just decided on a real team, I dont need distractions.

Damn Hawkeye is fun. Too bad his damage is poor

So, judging from who showed up at Jon’s tonight, Raleigh’s UMvC3 scene consists of Rocky Mount, Durham, and a couple dudes who don’t care about UMvC3. Stay free Raleigh lol

I’m pretty sure that was all MvC3 was in the first place lol

Firebrand level 3 x factor idle animation looks like he needs to go to the bathroom really bad.

Jimmy and Daniel were supposed to show up.

Yeah… RDU is ass though, really for any game. Pretty much the only self sustained scene is arcana.

14 hour work days at school suck, good news though my senior project is pretty much over so no more 14 hour work days, so I can possibly make it out to gatherings.

I have a feeling RDU is going to jump on next SCV, unless the game turns out to be trash.

This Sunday! Come play against VA’s best in RVA’s inagural UMvC3 tournament! Also with SSF4AE!

RDU is slightly more than that Dale. You forget that Charles, Chaz, and Bryce come by my place pretty regularly, Blake as well the last month or so. And Mark is a very good player attending State as well. But your main point is correct now that I think about it. Everyone I mentioned is from Durham now except for Chaz and Mark lol Anyways great games tonight guys.

Damn, I haven’t seen the twins since Tekken 6 came out. I thought they were too busy with real life lol.

Yeah, my main point is that there should be more of these Raleigh/Durham players showing up, not just to Jon’s but to your place as well. I know I haven’t made it out to your place yet, Erik. That’s mostly cuz I don’t think I’m any good at mvc3 which was evident in my gameplay tonight, hell I wasn’t even good at mvc2 lol and I just didn’t feel like wasting you guys time but I think I will put more lab time in since I’m sick of playin blazblue offline once a month.

Thanks for the matches 7thRob, don’t pay any attention to the random salty stuff I say durin our games, that’s just how I learn lol.

Shinso, there will definitely be SC5 going on in the Raleigh area. Might even have an Illuminati SC5 crew going! And I know Jon is gonna play it too. People probably should start retiring from SC5 ahead of time since it’s goin’ to be a meat grinder!!!

Raleigh died when me, Garret, and Nov left state lol j/k. But I do feel that we had a lot more people when we opened up to play.

It seems like you missed the place where I said Vajra is a great assist.

You have to understand where I’m coming from. Marvel is a team game. The characters I want to play get much more strategic benefit from some kind of projectile or beam assist. If I play Wesker or Strider on point, having Doom beam lets me create cross up mix ups from full screen, and even if you block it correctly, I basically get in for free with frame advantage. With Vergil, the same scenario happens, plus it helps me conserve meter for him. Vajra assist doesn’t do that for me, even though it is still a great assist for Vergil in that it controls the vertical very well, something he doesn’t do very well. But the hard knockdown really doesn’t benefit any of those characters all that much in combos because they don’t start massive combos off of OTGs. It’s especially bad for Vergil because he only has one OTG move and he still needs an assist and/or meter to combo afterwards. For “beam that wall bounces” (I’m guessing you mean Gram assist), why would I want an assist that does this when most of the characters I’m interested in playing can create this state on their own? That just limits my combo damage even further.

I’m not putting Doom on my team to serve as some sick anchor with XF3, even though he is perfectly serviceable in that position (XFGC into Doom’s Time says hi). I’m putting him there because the overall benefit to my point and second characters is high enough that I feel it makes up for not having a retarded XF3 anchor. If Strider works as anchor on your team, go for it. But it’s the same way I feel about running anchor Dante. He works in that spot, but his overall abilities as a character don’t get to really shine, IMO. The part of the character that interests me is not present when he spends most of the time off the screen, and his assist doesn’t do stuff for my team that Doom’s assist does.

See, this is exactly what I’m talking about. Of course Doom is gonna love Vajra assist. It does a lot for him, namely it punishes people for trying to get around his full screen game, plus Doom gets full combos off of an OTG. For Doom on point, great assist!

I agree. If you have characters who aren’t overtly dependent on certain assists to run their game, then you can have an anchor who has a good assist for certain applications but is not essential. That leaves the door open for XF3 as well.

I’ve got one day to learn a new character, cause Wright is borderline unplayable and plagued with issues that only a balance patch can fix.

Also, I didn’t get in a position to leave Greenville til almost 7 pm. I gotta leave at 5 to make it a worthwhile trip to Raleigh as far as playing vs driving.

Jon I would show up but I uh… Got school. I would like to make it out to more stuff but school+work first, I guess

The word for today is…“leadership”.

Stepping forward and stating, “RDU can have local ranbat night at gamefrog if they would like to”. Organize for food and space. No need to cram into peoples houses anymore if you do not want to even though the option is always greatly appreciated by whoever dose it.

I use to think strategy guides were a waste of money, but after reading through some of the UMvC3 guide I’m now a believer.

@7th Fonon: I’ve noticed the more we play the more our matches have started going to time out. At least now I’ve learned that no matter how cool 15+ frame moves may look, they’re not a good idea to constantly throw out every single time. Plus I’ve learned to just chill instead of rushing in and getting punished over and over again. Hopefully by next time (probably not by Saturday) we play I’ll have my taunt cancel down, be able to remember my DJ combos, and have some tricks to pull off with Lee. With those three added I should have a decent number of fun characters to mix and play with.

@Robocurse: For the most part I’ve only been focusing on Tekken. If I’m not playing Tekken then I’m playing Gears. Can’t remember the last time I even touched AH3 and that was one of my top games to play. Had to go back to the drawing board and figure some stuff out, but I think I saw a crack in the wall last night. After I’m done with that I’ll start jumping in on the Capcom games.

@Corner-Trap: You having AH3 on Saturday? I may have to defend my top 8 status.

Well I’ve opened my place up which has a gameroom and three TVs in it with plenty of space and no word from anyone. I’m come to the conclusion that people just don’t care to come out, but will still complain that they can’t find any sessions going on at all. Even opted for people to try and throw out times that may best work for them.

Instead I’ve redone the way I practice and implemented a “road warrior” type leveling up process.

I think if you enter AH3 at EZ and don’t get top 8, you should be pissed considering only 6 people play it.

Even at its peak though, top 8 meant going 1-2. Or rather, simply NOT being 0-2.

So, I’m out of NC. Nov 24th is my last day here, thanks for all of the games, learning, rides, and good times. Back to boston, hopefully the scene there is good. Will be able to travel to NY and Maryland tournaments, maybe see some of you there.

Next time I’ll be back in NC will most likely be the weekend of March 23rd, hopefully there is an EZ or something going on that weekend for me to attend.

Good Games Sofa King / Dale in Tekken last night. Looking forward to more matches this weekend. Jon / Demo, was fun to play some Marvel, even if I didn’t really have a bnb down or anything. xD

Also, Sofa King, you have improved a lot. Definitely practice movement too, it will help you just that much more.

That’s the joke. :stuck_out_tongue: Though actually last EZ we had 16 players for AH3.

Blake: Yeah I totally get where you’re coming from. It just seems like most of the characters you / we like require an assist to do much. I always felt like strider and dante can kind of self assist for mixups, so that’s why I like them as anchors. Doom on the other hand, I dunno. He’s annoying when he hits you but at high levels, I don’t know how he gets in without some cover. I guess every character is better with an assist and almost every character is viable as an anchor if you have XF3. I just like it for Strider since it mitigates his bad damage and he can cover himself, plus he’s more likely to have meter for oroboros. I may rethink the decision to run him if I see his assist get blown up one too many times. Erik did TK rocket launcher 3 times when I called strider and he died before I could do anything.

Me personally, if I ran doom, I’d probably put him second. Also I like Vergil with an assist but i imagine if you save a good deal of meter for him, the swords / sword crown when the swords almost run out are really cheap in x factor.

RE: Raleigh, Erik’s right actually, his spot seems to be the place to go to if you want some good comp in RDU, atleast in Marvel. And yes Dale is right, much SC5 will be had at my place once that comes out. (and KOF 13 of course).

Hey man, it’s been good playing with you and all that. You’ll be missed out here! Good luck in Boston. :china:
