NGBC is pretty much out of the question for me… no way I can make it out there on a Monday getting off at like 6 and then be back to get sleep for work lol.
Location: Cary (right on the raleigh/cary line, PM for address)
Time: 7pm+
Info:
1 lagless CRT setup (xbox 360)
1 HDTV (no second system, if you bring a system with HDMI lag shouldnt be to bad)
Plenty of space for additional monitors/setup if you would like to bring one
Games:
AE
MvC3
Tekken 6
BBCS2
I own/play all of these games and am down to play any of them. As stated anyone that wants to bring a second system or full setup is more then welcome.
I may be in Wilmington tonight. I won’t be at EZ on the 9th though. Civil War 3 is that next weekend, and promises to have some of the best comp on the east coast.
Why would you just post for a session that’s roughly an hour and 30 minutes away from the first tournament we’re having, which is also guaranteed to have at least 2 of the three best players in the state, and will have more guaranteed lagless setups? Why don’t you just drive to the beach!?
The tournament beings at 6pm on a Monday night. I get out of work at 6pm which means if I left right away I’d get there around 8.30pm since it’s about 2.5hrs away (I already checked to see if it was possible to make it).
No one from my area that works on Mondays and gets out around the average quitting time could ever make this tournament, unless work was taken off/left early and planned for in advance. Not to mention 5hrs of driving on a day when there is work the next day.
I do plan to make it out to one of these tournaments one week, but it doesn’t make since for us in the triangle to cancel our Monday sessions for it.
also to make it easier for people coming out of town, it’ll be MUCH easier if you park in the mall parking lot behind CFG, the parking lot in front of the venue is kinda small.
Jos: You ever hear back from those RUA Gamer people? I’m still interested in working something out for that if you’re down.
I dunno man, why don’t you just drive up here for one of the sessions we do in RDU. It’s only an hour and a half - two hours on a weekday.
But yeah pretty much what Jos said. It’s just not realistic / healthy for us to do this more than maybe once in a long while if we have a day to ask off or something. I get wanting to support the scene but man… monday is terrible for a lot of us.
I guess it’ll be EZ for the rest of us… fucking spread out NC lol
If not, Gamerdoc in BrierCreek might be open to give it another shot. Some time ago they tried to do a weekly thing, but the numbers weren’t consistently there to hold it up. it seems like there’s even more players in the area now. the place is not actually all that big, but I don’t know how big the other places are either.
I’d like to take this opportunity to address something I find important, and that’s the act of deeming games a “major” or “minor.”
Rather than ramble on about this like you all know I could, I’ll just say that it’s dumb. If it’s the latest incarnation of a game that’s run at tournaments across the country, then it deserves to be a major. If someone isn’t willing to pay 10 bucks, they most likely aren’t willing to pay 5 either, and the added 2/3 people maximum that are don’t cause the pot for the winners to be any bigger.
TL;DR: MK, T6, and BBCS2 should be 10 dollars at all upcoming tournaments.
Well to be fair, you might not garner interest if it’s 10. Some people just aren’t THAT serious about a game and for some reason, 5 bucks seems a lot more throwaway than 10. I’d like to support most or all of the games but if they’re all 10 bucks, I probably wouldn’t play in every one.
But, I do see what you’re saying. If someone plays… say, Arcana as their only game, they deserve to get 10 bucks for it. It’s not like it’s detracting from our other players because we’re not entering anyway.
Jos, thats understandable. Turnout is going tto be mostly those who arent working the 9-5.
However i would like to point out that googlemaps is full of shit unless you drive like Morgan Freeman with an old white woman behind you.
Oh, and Jon, when i worked a 9-5 in greensboro, i would leave right after work on a weekday and make the 3 hour drive to Durham and the 5 hour drive to Raleigh to play 3rd strike. I would also have to work the next day and getting home at 4 then going back in the next day was a struggle but the comp in x area and the desire dictated my decisions. IE i would still make the drive to Greenville and Fayetteville…but not to Raleigh.
