Sup guys. I got my job with the JET program, and most of my family stuff has been resolved, so I’ll be able to play more games now during the week. I’m still pretty busy on the weekends cause we’ve lost 1 of the 5 people that worked for us (she retired), and I have to work pretty much friday-sunday. But if anyone wants to get games in during the week, just let me know.
This also means that I’ll be leaving North Carolina at the end of July. Knowing this, I want to get some more tournaments going at Lucky’s again before I leave. So I’m going to talk to Lucky in the next few days about getting them going again, since I don’t have a ton on my plate now that I got my job. What Saturday works best for people in May? The 7th, 14th, 21st or 28th? LET ME KNOW SO WE CAN GET IT GOING. PLZTHANKYOU.
I feel that both Dante and Wesker are very even match ups. Dante by no means out ranges Zero and Zero’s normals start up a hell of a lot faster. Also Zero can run away every bit as well as Wesker. As far as Zero not being able to combo off of his air throw without an assist, when is he ever not gonna be ran first or at worst second. And Zero does much better against players holding up back than most characters since his offense is more cross up heavy than high/low. Hell sometimes even I don’t know which side I’ll hit with H teleport or M/H spike and lighting is fairly hard to react to even if you notice it.
Some people may hate me for this but I’m thinking of running Wesker/Amaterasu/Phoenix since I feel those are the 3 best characters in the game right now.
We’re trying to host a tournament at Elite Zone in May also, it would be nice to have two tournaments in one month to make up for the dry period NC has been having with tournaments.
EDIT:
Zero vs Dante and Wesker are very similar. Dante and Wesker’s main tool against Zero is 2B, if Zero is close he can beat it on start up with 5A and if he’s far he can whiff punish it with 5C. As far as Dante’s 6H is concerned I haven’t really seen Dante players just throw that out against Zero so it would need testing.
Anything but May 7th works for me as that’s the Kentucky Derby which I go to every year. I wouldn’t mind hitting up two tournaments in May. I just need two weeks in advance to take off which also applies to my friends.
5B and 5C both match Dantes range. 6H is good range with Dante but it’s also a lot slower than Zero’s stuff, I look at it as more of a special than a normal. In the air Zero’s j.C should rape dante. Zero’s air mobility is also way better than Dante’s. Dante has better AA options with his ground normals though, but I’m not sure how well they fair vs Zero’s air attacks (j.C and the dives). The hitboxes on those are really really good.
Dante’s air normals have decent horizontal reach but they seem bad for vertical attacks. Also have to take note of the speed of some of Dante’s normals, they seem somewhat slow on whiff and he can’t actually block after bold cancel right away so it’s not as easy to make his stuff safe as I initially thought.
I play both of them so it’s not me being biased. I do think Dante is better at space control with the arc his stuff hits at, but Zero is definitely more mobile, better in the air, and has better mixups. Dante controls space better, gets around zoning a bit easier, and does more damage, atleast for now.
Earlier in the month would be better, try to not have it too close to animazement weekend. Awesome stuff though, congrats on JET!
I’ll talk to Kevin on Friday about a tournament date but I’m currently leaning towards the 21st.
Considering how much this game is getting patched I doubt it’ll devolve into that. As for GG you know I’m ass at that game.
EDIT:
Phoenix is unbalanced not broken, there is a difference. There are viable options to deal with her but those options aren’t always practical in every situation. The real problem with Phoenix is that she isn’t fun to play against, it isn’t even fun to watch someone play as her. Of course entertainment value is subjective but I doubt that many would disagree with my statement. I agree that she should definitely be nerfed but I just don’t want Capcom to overreact again like they did with Sentinel. Personally I would just like for TK Shot to disappear if she got hit, a lot of the other stuff I dislike about her has more to do with the speed bonus from X-Factor but that’s a different topic.
I’ve seen people talk about playing GG but no one has really busted it out yet at our sessions, you’re more than welcome to bring a copy since we already have a PS2 setup.
I pretty much agree with this. I think for phoenix, some balance changes after fighting her last night:
No X-Factor as dark phoenix. Or if she does, it doesn’t give her health regen, speed increase, or damage buffs.
Slower teleport.
Phoenix Getting hit makes the orb go away.
I don’t like that random mash cr.A leads into 100% in X factor level 3. It’s also way too god damn fast to follow her stuff in x factor when it’s all that good. With those changes I think she’d be decently balanced though.
I just think when they made phoenix, their thought was yes, she’s hard to hit but you just have to survive while she burns her health out. With X factor you can’t run away from her to beat her and any random miniscule hit leads to instant death.
But with that said I don’t think she’s unbeatable. You just have to take some serious risks to kill her.
Looks like I’ma leave for Raleigh on Friday to see family for easter weekend, so I don’t think I’ll be at Elite Zone this weekend (but definitely should be good for the following weeks).
Should be able to make it to State no problem though. Hope to see some new faces for Arcana since it’s available to everyone in the US now.
