Smack in the middle of winter break lol.
Since I had to postpone the date of the tournament that was suppose to be on Friday, what would be a good day for everyone here? I know there’s a lot coming up with Halloween and Thanksgiving coming shortly.
I thought it was ran very well. No complaints. I think things ran actually better than most tournaments I’ve been to.
Yeah the tournament was good, I liked the venue and the setup. If we actually had a big turn out, it may have been a lot slower since we only had a few TVs for each game, but maybe we could do what EZ does and just devote ALL the TVs to one game till it gets done, then move on to the next tournament. No complaints at all here though.
lol at the Dormammu official changes, they basically gave him a DP, if you activate dark spells they’re guaranteed to come out even if he gets hit, so say you do a super from full screen, I can just take it and to the fire rain move and get a free combo afterwards. Or if you’re in my face I can just mash on the volcano one and get a free combo or pressure.
I had a great time at the Raleigh tournament. If there is anything else around here like that I will definitely go again.
Capcom of Japan still services CPS3 boards. Only problem is you have to send the board to them and go through an arcade owner usually to fix the board. If you want to go around Capcom of Japan, you can, but you can only reflash to the Asian version of the game. Which has almost ALL of the character voices removed (the only sounds that remain are the random grunts they make when they do normal moves). All special move voices (e.g. “Hadouken!”) are removed.
- So the gem system in SFxT pretty much makes the game unplayable in tournaments. With RPG style customizations introduced we’re left with 3 options:
A. Allow no gems
B. Allow all gems
C. Allow certain gems
We can’t pick option A since Capcom already made the decision for us by not allowing gems to be turned off forcing players into picking them. Option B can consume a lot of time and money by forcing tournament organizers to buy all of the gems through DLC, manually unlock the gems through the various game modes and somehow obtain the exclusive gems you only get through preordering (don’t forget that this process would have to be repeated for every single setup). Option C leads into a slippery slope of deciding what should be allowed and what shouldn’t be, it will eventually devolve the community into a war of opinions. If all of this is as bad as it sounds then it would be best for the community to just forget and move on from this game. Of course our final verdict should be reserved until after it comes out.

Would anyone be interested if I turned the weekly EZ sessions on Friday into ranbats? We have the venue, equipment and player base to support it, we could even stream it with Nathan’s setups. I was thinking of making it a $2 entry winner takes all type of deal. It would give players more incentive to make it out to sessions, generate some hype and level up.

Can you just not pick any gems?
I’d say either that or just not play the game, it kinda looks like ass anyway.
SFxT is one step closer to our eventual destination of all combos being cutscene’s with quicktime events.
Yup, you can choose to not use any gems.
Can I get a confirmation on that? Cause the way everyone is making it sound is that you have to pick the gems in order to start the match. Capcom seems hard pressed about making gems an integral part of the game, thus why they don’t allow you to simply turn them off.
I don’t think my opinion should be weighed into it heavily since i’m not often there but I think that’s a good idea as long as it’s affordable, like not 10 dollars or anything 2-3 dollar, if you REALLY got alot of people like say 20+ you could turn it into an 80/20 maybe but I dunno just depends on turnouts I guess. I’ll be up there this Friday with quite a few people in my crew. Debating about bringing my dreamcast or not since it has tons of classical fighters.
Whelp, there we go.
That or just play with the vanilla gems. Like the ones you get with the game default without any special offers or DLC. Honestly I think they maybe could add to the game and make it interesting but it’s not something that’d be doable at tournaments. I’m not sure why Capcom made that decision… only thing it can possibly point to for me is them saying “look, we’re tired of catering to the competitive community, this time, we want to just make something fun”. Problem there is the competitive stuff is what pushes fighting games and draws in interest I think.
What worries me is if the FG community ignores this game and they still make tons of money off of it, they might think hey, we don’t NEED to cater to the competitive crowds, and then we get more and more BS like this.
TLDR;
Play Soul Calibur 5, it’s a good game.
Cause we don’t know what we want.
The Great and Almighty Capcom knows what we want.
I’m hoping I can make it to the event on the 11th. I saw vf fs mentioned hopefully
It can gain a decent following this time around. How was the netcode on vf5 for 360?
I blame my phone
I think Capcom has a plan with this game. Get us not playing it, so the main focus is online play. Sell gems to online players to give competitive advantages. Profit more from the DLC then from a few hundred people boycotting the game. Also, even if the game isn’t in tournies, some people gonna buy it anyways cause of the Capcom name.
That said, as long as we can support the fiighters that are actually good, this shouldn’t be a problem. There’s plenty of good stuff coming out in the next year- KOFXIII , SCV, VF, Skullgirls potentially, BB late next year.
Capcom just isn’t needed anymore if they’re going to keep derping things up.
BTW VF5 netcode for 360 was really damn good. Even top players said it was really good.
Well technically KOF13 is this year but yea i’m excited for all the new ones. Just don’t buy the ones you think are gonna be bad, hold off maybe play them at a friends house who has the game. I’m personally excited for SCV/VF and KOF13 the most. Skullgirls and BB a little bit too but wanna see the direction they go first. By the way KOF13 comes with a 4 cd OST if you preorder it or maybe it’s with all the copies at launch. Definitely quite a nice inclusion for a 50 dollar release that’s already significantly updated from the arcade port.
For people who don’t wanna wait and have a PS3 or a JP 360, KOF XIII is hitting Japan and import stores this week. I would actually pick it up, but I’m broke right now.
The game isn’t finished yet, so its not a “you can” or “you can’t” yet. Everything is just assumptions right now. Don’t take someone’s word, just add to the debate if anything.
