Yo man , yesterday was awesome. ggs to : Fudd, Geo, Papasi, Myung, Ultra-bong-o(self explanatory) , the Wolfe bros. Graham & Alex and Friend (I apologize I didn’t catch your name) good Honda though, he slapped the shit out of my ryu wuahaha
fro real though, Papasi was on fire last night. He scrambled us like eggs on a hot plate. First streak was 10+ wins w/ multiple wins against Alex.
then 2nd streak was against Sebastian, nate, and Myung ? that was about another 10 wins. I was blown away just on the consecutive wins against Sebastian. Amazing work was put out by Papasi, hats off to u homie !
on another note. Fudd, Sebastian, graham and I went to dennys for a bite after gamecenter and got front row seats to a Mexican beatdown !
Drunk Mexicans fighting inside dennys. Started as a 1 on 1, then they got kicked out, then it became a 3 on 1. Poor guy got KO’ed by the 3 and the the girls couldn’t do a thing to help him. But the restaurant was packed and saw the whole thing. Twas sad to say the least. Dude that got KO’ed got kicked and punched several times after being layed out.
conclusion to this, amazingly the police show up in less the 2 mins after being called(white city EDIT - found out we were down the street from the police station lol),
6+ squad cars, fire truck, and amberlamps. Catch the end of the fight and arrested most of the parties: KO’ed dude, the 3 bitchass jumpers, and the sad girlfriend too.
crazy ass show. We leave dennys head back to the cars @ gamecenter.
Ultra-bong-o leaves from being too full and powered up.
Fudd, Graham, and myself chopped it up till about 5ish . I saw sun when I got back home to the O.
all I can say is awesome seeing the norcal crew as always, Myung, Eric, good catching up w/ Alex and meeting his friend(the Honda player) and good meeting w/ Graham. Can’t wait to play again !
I want to put the complaints about speed standards to rest. People have already argued this shit to death and there’s no need to keep beating a dead horse.
Ganelon and other really technical/scientific members of the ST community have tested a lot of this stuff over the years with different versions and whatnot. The standard we’ve been using since we started running Arcade ST tourneys at EVO in 2011 has been:
JP fixed Turbo 3
US free select Turbo 2 (the closest possible thing on the US board to JP T3)
Part of this is because the US version has speeds T0-T3 whereas the JP version has T1-T4. So because JP T3 is the standard, US T2 aligns up there on the scale. You can find evidence for this at the ST Wiki under "Regional Differences" http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Super_Street_Fighter_2_Turbo
Why not play at fixed Turbo 2 to avoid confusion at the character select screen? Because it’s actually a different speed than free select T2.
I spent the last couple hours trying to find posts to support this, though it’s been difficult because of all the forum changes and some hyperlinks don’t work anymore. But I didn’t come up empty-handed.
And here was the most recent, accurate thread on speed differences, though it may not show much.
Of course, if you’re used to playing online and/or different versions of the game, it will “feel” different because you’re used to a particular version/speed. That said, it has always been the case that if you’re training for a ST tournament, you should be training under the conditions of that specific tournament whether the version is DC, PS2, HDR, or our beloved Arcade CPS2. To allow for training under any other condition would do a disservice to the players training for the tournament since precision in Super Turbo is so crucial. And this is the reason why I’ve completely quit playing online.
I think ultra was planning on going but couldn’t go for some reason. I would like to have gone but cause of work I couldn’t change my schedule, not sure about others. Really looking forward to watching the stream though, I’m sure it’ll be hype.
I tried HDR las few days and it truly is an abomination. I don’t think I’ll be playing that anymore. Once I get ggoo working though mebbe I can try to get some practice
Question Papasi, the board that I helped return to you,
is that an American or JP board ?
also, why is it that the Wolfe bros said the same thing that they too also remember playing turbo3 on American cabs since back In the day ? Is it that my local locations that i use to play at + the Wolfe bros locations that ran their cabs @ turbo3? or was there regional settings that the arcades set em’ at that we didnt know about ?
come on Graham, when we were talking fri night you said you would jump back on the saddle and give HDR classic another shot = /
i remember Ultracombo mentioning the same thing, that he was trying to make a last minute trip to LA but something fell through.
the boards i have are US turbo speed.
US turbo 2 = JP turbo 3.
for my personal preference we can play casual at whatever speed i don’t mind at all.
but all tournaments using arcade boards have been standardized to use US T2/JP T3 since 2009
(2008 was the last year ST still a official game at EVO and they were using console)
EVO will be using US T2 / JP T3 anyways even if mike watson enters and he wants US T3 it’s not gonna happen.
this just makes you look like a hypocrite
bc you got Myung to set the cab on free select,
then you Always choose T2 every chance you get even after we have chosen T3 ~
whats the point of free select when its always being put back to T2 by you ?
Myung, heres lookin @ you elbow nudgex2coughshoulder bumps Geo
moving along ~
ohh okay , you meant remix.
well yeah , remix hitbox properties are fudged up.
theres a good number of people (20+)? that play classic
thanks to ambassadors like Kuroppi and DGV.
they got alot of people to start playing classic quiet frequently
good examples would be: Jumpsuit Jesse and CVital .
and on a side note - afrolegends (became active again like 2-3 weeks ago) but he’s always played both classic and remix.
oh, not to forget theres still the japanese players that i haven’t counted yet.
so, give it a second chance
and you will find people to play including Geo and myself.
I’m on daily (late nights) - i’ll just PM you my xbl GT and not to forget Geo’s, Thrust’s, and Vestax’s gt’s as well.
they’re more than willing to play if you invite them =)
not so fast homie, i said i didn’t mind, as in if you pick turbo 3 i don’t bitch.
but when it’s MY turn to pick, i pick turbo 2 (and i don’t mind turbo 2)
did i contradict myself? lolol
lol you’re so caught up with this.
of all the games that i played friday i’d say i picked t3 more often than t2.
i just didn’t even care too much about that during casuals, you only noticed it when i picked t2, you never pay attention when i picked t3, especially when we were on the same side (i.e. i wasn’t playing you)
i hope someone besides you noticed that to put this to rest.
geo often asked me hey ain’t we supposed to play at turbo 2?
i asked myung to put it to free select because we’re not the only ones who play it and a lot people just play this for fun not for tournament. they can pick whatever speed they want to.
fudd just explained why we should be playing on t2, and i help clarified that.
I get the feeling this issue never would have even come up if we were playing on a Japanese board, fixed Turbo 3 this whole time.
In the US, the standard was fixed Turbo 3 in the past. But things have changed since we’ve discovered that US free select T2 is the closest option to JP fixed T3. US Turbo 3 is faster than the standard and not the equivalent of JP Turbo 3, it’s actually closer to JP Turbo 4.
I know this video references the HDR beta, but even the final version of the game runs at a different speed than the arcade version (the PS3 version even more so). Throw in the online factor and the feeling of the game’s speed/timing will “feel” different yet still.
If this is your frame of reference for what speed “feels right” then you may want to consider reevaluation.
I understand where darkness is coming from in having a preference in playing on turbo 3, especially since we have played on that setting from when we started at least until having the qualifiers. The step back to 2 obviously feels slower, which can impact our reactions and timing. Playing ST on turbo 3 does feel “more right” to me due to my playing it either on turbo 3 in arcades back in the day, using emulators, or other ports in the past.
However, understanding as Fudd explained it that US turbo 2 and JP 3 is the tournament standard, it would do us all good to stick to 2 at least when it comes to training and tournaments. And as papasi stated, in casuals I’m all for either setting it to 3 or a free select winner’s choice so long as everyone involved has agreed to it, so that there is no confusion or conflict afterwards.
