No Virtua Fighter at Evo?

Not sure if they had it last year or not, but Tekken is at Evo this year and Virtua Fighter is the most similar fighting game there is to Tekken, no?

Is it seen as less legitimate for some reason? I am aware that some people hate on Tekken for this same perceived reason.

Is there just not a significant amount of VF players?

This.

It’s just not a popular series in the US, despite the amount of praise and acclaim.

Pretty much.

Last time VF was at EVO was 07 with VF5. If you haven’t yet, go to VFDC - Virtua Fighter Dot Com if you want meet up with players and gets strats and such.

That link doesn’t work.

Edit: Oops, it did the second time.

@aku: That’s sad man, I hope it picks up in the future.

Something really remarkable would have to happen for VF to end up in Evo. They generally only have room for the games with the biggest scenes. VF has never really even been a contender for that.

I was going to run a VF side tourney at Evo in '08, but my Xbox was stolen out of my baggage at the airport.

I ran VF5 casuals in my room at the Rio in '09. Didn’t attend Evo last year and most likely will not go this year.

Hopefully if VF5:FS comes out on console this year I’ll try to start something for Evo next year. :karate:

it would be cool if it was.

Unfortunately, VF is pretty much dead in the U.S. There’s two reasons for this:

  1. Even when VF5 was new, the scene wasn’t that big (though they were/are dedicated). Ever since Street Fighter 4 and Tekken 6 came out, VF5’s scene practically disappeared.

  2. Sega won’t port the newest version to consoles (VF5R never got ported, and it’s doubtful that VF5FS will be ported either).

Honestly, though, I blame Sega/AM2 more than anything. This is a time in which almost any fighter that comes out gets some kind of attention/following, and for some reason, they don’t want to port their newest game.

Sega’s allergic to profit.

oh man :frowning:

even the illuminati is keeping VF down

really though, for anyone who didn’t already know, VF has been an official game at Evo in 2003, 2004, and 2007

Sega is being really really dumb not porting the latest Virtua Fighter to consoles. Basically a lot of what we learned for VF5 ver C is two years outdated and Sega doesn’t care about promoting the game outside of Japanese Arcades.

Because Sega doesn’t care about non-Japanese VF players.

I hope Virtua Fighter steps up their game and graphics
