Ah dang…not cool I may not ever have the chance to watch rare footage like that one interview. Alas, it’s understandable I guess… maybe someday I can make it to Evo lol ^^ Btw They still show Bang the Machine right?
Wow. Just read this whole thread and it was just too epic. I wish I was older than like 4 years old when all of this shit went down. I was sitting playing sf2turbo on my SNES in my room against the CPU all day. We didn’t even have a 7-11 to play with other people at, and I lived around a bunch of girls (who obviously were not on my level).
I feel nostalgic and I wasn’t even there for any of this shit. It just sounds so much better than anything us later players have ever had… Sounds so… classic. Wish I could see the pics and videos posted in this thread that no longer exist.
Shame tomo didn’t make it to evo and just had the video interview. That was pretty cool though.
dude, this video needs to be made available to the internet, stat. i’ll upload it to my webspace and post it for everyone here if you could send it to me via megaupload, AIM… whatever works for you. please let me know about this, as i’m dying to see this video!
If I was mod in this forum I would ban the fuck out of you.
Have some goddamned respect for other’s commercial property. They’ve ALREADY said DO NOT DO THIS KTHX. Grow the fuck up.
I would assume this video is part of the Evo stuff IGN has then right?
wow, take a chill pill there buddy. who is “they”? there was no explanation in this thread or watson’s interview thread about why it was taken down. i didn’t realize “they” are trying to reserve this interview for sale on DVD, if that’s even the case. besides which, it was an interview with mike watson, a regular on these forums who even asked what questions people have, so i didn’t figure it being anything official conducted by EVO.
lots of people who missed out want to see this, and i don’t see the harm in making it available, since it was freely available before. so sounds like YOU need to grow the fuck up and stop taking this shit so seriously. the legend of tomo ohira must be known.
is this him, so video i found on youtube.
sure is. some very sound advice in that video. i’m curious who’s actually playing the matches though… maybe watson knows?
word up! And since it seems everyone who has footage of him is holding out for some dvd or something the only ppl who will find out are the ones willing to shill out money for the DVD. However much that shits gonna cost.
it’d be nice if “they” could at least release snippets, so ppl can see if its even worth their time. Ppl always say you need to show homage to your elders, and the ppl who laid the foundation for the SF community, yet when ppl are curious and want to see, all you get is “give me 50 bucks for the DVD and you can see it”.
So i agree, the legend of Tomo does need to spread, but i doubt it will if turns into hassle just to find a video of the guy.
they have some vids of tomo playin on youtube don’t know if it’s him though. i could post them for those who hav seen him play before, so that way i’d know for sure if it’s him or not.
there are also some others
Different Tomo, that one’s some Japanese player.
A great series of vids just put up the Jeff Scheaffer talking all about the early competitive scene, all the players, Hyper Fighting etc. Get over there and check them out right away!!
Start here:

It wasn’t freely available before.
You know what the meaning of commercial property is right?
that’s good shit. thanks to jeff schaefer for making the vids, i listened to them all while i was working out today. love to hear about the history of the scene.
I wonder if schaefer, tomo, or osaki have ever played sf4 just to see what it’s like.
I keep asking people to show me it, but no, I never played it. Not even seen it in person! I played a couple times in the last 5 years at Gerald Abrahams house, he has AE and remix. BUt I dont think he has SF4. I want to play it for fun!
lol shoot. Thanks for watching my videos.
Wow, that’s a great set of videos and really sums up everything that’s been posted over the years. You can see Jeff Schaefer trying hard to give credit where it’s due and makes sure to add that his claims are based on personal experience. I hope other top OG players will get in the spirit of reminiscing and start posting their own experiences. Having a NorCal view on things would be great.
LAAkuma: Given your solid AE appearance, I think you’re discounting your current abilities. I mean, Shaq is old and has lost some of his ability with age but he’s still a strong force at center. You should still give HDR a try since you already have most of the skill set there. I’m sure you’re a lot busier but from what I’ve seen and heard (though could be wrong), I don’t think the majority of OG players play very much HDR anyway to refresh their skills for tourneys. Playing 8 hours a day for months/years at a time really ingrained muscle memory and experience into you all.
Holy shit, this thread is 5 years old? Tomo is a beast where are the vidsss?
does he still play?
and for that matter, who’s the best in the world currently?
You and some of the World’s Finest crew should totally do some exhibition matches to show people how top players from LA did it back in the day. I’m sure someone has a Hyper Fighting board somewhere!!!
