OMFG…OMFG…
THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!!
THANK YOU!!!
lol@video. really nice of you to post this. so fucking funny. even though there is some bitter history at this vid, i can still laugh at the damn gi joe ads. WHATS TOUGHER THAN A SF? a street fighters mother?? lol at that corny ass joke. anyways, seriously, tomo was on another level when sf2, sf2ce, and sfhf was out.
HEY GUYS!!! points at you with TWO HANDS
Anyway, I have a copy of the original “Tomo Teaches” VHS tape (I was the guy who sent it to Preppy for encoding). The only reason I’m mentioning this is because I have a link to the original boxart on my SF2 memorabilia site if anyone is interested (see sig).
EDIT: Here’s a direct link:

Been away for so long, pls tell me sum1 saved these pics.
Forgive me… Gerald Abraham - LA Akira, where r U? b great to hear from you again…
This thread has been an interesting read. I used to play SF2 WW/CE back in the day but because Im Australian based I never heard of any of these guys. I still have this Mean Machines guide book though with the Tomo interview in the back. (http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/7048/hfguidebookp159tomosml0xt.jpg)
I remember seeing it for the first time and thinking “Who the hell is this guy? Just another flavour of the month top player?”. Guess not
Nohoho, of the excellent Super Nohoho Fighter II X blog has just PM’d me in the direction of the amazing Nagoyan SF2 World Warrior tips’n’tricks video. Check it out here:
Mindblowing that play was that advanced during the WW era in Japan!?! As Nohoho says:
“Man, at my local arcade we were still getting the hang of DPs back then”
Crayfish.
A nice roundup of the PC versions of SF2, including some of the later modified versions. One even has origonal win poses, see the pic of Boxer with his glove off:

Crayfish.
the game looks good in screenshots but sucks in play lol
i assume those vids never got encoded?
Wow, that training video is cheese to the max. The asian kid’s mullet is pure gold. Where did they find this Danny guy?
Oh man that reminded me of Bill Nye but 10x cooler because its Street Fighter 2.
I have a question since we are on the subject of old school players. Did players back then play for prizes and cash back then as they do now or were they like the Japaneses who mostly play for free?
One of my friends used to compete a lot back then in Championship Edition. He used to play for Credits at the arcade a lot.
Damn. Brings back some old memories. Who was it that went to the Chicago, Midwest Nationals at Super Just Games back in…I think 1994 for Super? I remember Tomo could not make it, but 2 of his pals came, and 1 of them took the win, walking away with a Sega CD (lol) amongst other various prizes.
I ended up dropping them off at the airport due to them not having a ride lol.
Anyhow, any of you guys one of those 2 people?
damn, this takes me way way back. SF2WW, CE and HF where the first games (fighters, wasnt even into snk back then, till SSII changed all that) i ever mastered back in the days. i gotta say my throw game and zoning skillz along with my timing where deadly back in those days. though i rarely did bigger combos then 2 in 1s used to fucking own. later games changed my playstyle into a more daigo like player for some reason. great way of saying it btw. now my combo skillz and execution skillz in combos got crazy. but my throw game and zoning skillz aint as good as back in the 91-93 days. funny you mentioned it, as the play styles really changed. today is more show, back then it was more about every single hit you could get in. i wish i had my oldschool skillz with todayz combo executing skillz. fucking knew when to use every normal in any situation.
p.s. :shake: 93 the scene started dying. 95 or 96 it was already pretty much killed here. europes got it bad yall.
We… we had a scene?!
Ohhh man wow, this thread is an absolute relic. I’m so glad I found this.
I was at Circus Circus in Las Vegas for New Years. Circus Circus was the hotspot for SF2 in Vegas back then. Their machine was a 50inch screen with seats. Tomo happened to be there as well…I knew him from the worlds finest tournaments.
Anyway, we alternated rounds playing as Guile and owned the machine all night. At least 100 wins in a row. There were at least 30 people watching at all times and some had video cameras. SF was huge back then. I know one guy was there recording us for at least an hour. I was hoping for the video to show up by now
