I may rename the file to make it easier to find, but that’s how I’m sharing it right now.
I have a question.
In this interview Tomo says that he’s been in three big tournaments, winning twice and placing second once. This is the first I’ve ever heard of Tomo not winning a tournament, and it was apparently a “big” one.
So what I want to know is… who’s the person that beat Tomo at a big tournament?
Wow its been a while since i’ve read this thread… omg some og names are posting…
When I was younger I use to go to World’s Finest on weekends with my cousin
he was really into SF scene back then and kinda got me hooked on it… I remember playing casuals with all these players and getting owned but it was fun nonetheless.
Now that I’m more experienced and have been in the scene for a while, I’m excited to see the og vids that LA Akira found from both jpn and the us in the old days of SF…
Strangely enough Apoc and Nelson both lives in the same city as I do which is kinda cool because its like combining two fronts (one a top so cal and a top nor cal) in one city… I’ll be sure to tell poc that u’ve been posting on this threat… im sure he’ll be stoked… and cant wait to see those vids =P
I think I recall reading in the old SF2 guide that one tournament some local player named Mike cheaped him to death in that tournament, and the next tournament he cheaped Mike back.
So I’m assuming thats Mike Watson lol
That’s in the interview I linked. He says he lost to a “Mike” at a “small tournament,” so I’m guessing that’s not the big tournament he was talking about earlier in the interview.
Tomo!
My friend LAAkira is going to post up the pics from last night.
We were all hanging out at LAAkira’s house last night, and Tomo and I came over, they asked to go to family fun and we went down there.
So there is pics of me playing VS TOMO in the arcade last night. And there is this one pic of this guy from the arcade getting owned up vs Tomo, and we were making jokes like “this guy doesnt know how lucky he is, he doesnt even know who he is playing! LOL”.
Tomo lost only 1 major tournament, ever, and it was OG SF 2 original. Tomo in history, only lost 4 tournaments, in his life.
1 to Tony on SF2
1 to Mike on Champion Edition
1 to McGlone on Champion edition
1 to Me on Super
Other than that, he has never ever lost. He has not even gone to the losers bracket that I can ever remember. Sometimes joysticks are not perfect, or whatever, and you can’t win every single time.
he is literally like 80+ tournaments won, and me, and other of the best players PRE ST were in those tournaments. And we could not beat him. If Tomo was not there, I won every single tournament after Champion edition at Worlds finest. I was favored to win on Super at bama, but lost to my friend George to be eliminated. After Bama, Nor Cal people got really good and surpassed anyone in the country in street Fighter on average. before Bama, they had no chance, and I proved it dispaching their best player with ease 2-0 in the quarterfinals Thomas Osaki, who also lost to a not even top 10 player from Worlds finest, named Matt who played Chun Li.
Tomo is the undisputed most consistent, most dominate player of all time, bar none. it was the first time in probably 12+ years he has been in an arcade last night, and it was great. The magic is still there and it was nuts.
He still looks exactly the same! and when he lost his first tournament, he was ONLY 13 years old. keep that in mind. To Tony.
Jeff
Hey guys, sorry I haven’t had time to encode the videos. I’ve been pretty hammered with work and yesterday was one of my first days off in a while. However, yesterday, Tomo, Jeff, some old skool FFA players, Thierry (frenchie), Jeremy as well as a dozen others came over to watch Pride FC, eat some BBQ and of course, Oh Gee SF. Here are a few pix from the get together…
Heres Tomo, Jeff and Thierry at my place playing AE

Posting for Apoc since his account is dissed.
He says he was just thinking about Thierry a few days ago and even today. So, that’s wierd. He said he last saw him when they hung out and played some games in Vegas back in '93.
He also says you all look exactly the same! Much love from Apoc to you guys.
What happened to his account? I haven’t seen Jason for way too long. How’s he doing?
We look exactly the same with a little less hair.
Cept for Tomo, he looks like he hasnt aged a day.
Nice pictures you posted LL Akira, and just a question, since you know Jeff and Tomo, but why didn’t these two guys come to the Evo2k6 to maybe just play casuals in HSF2:AE? Or maybe even enter in the tournaments, I mean, I know Crayfish posted up something about it in another thread awhile back, but I was just wondering, since imo if one of the two had entered, they would’ve taken it.
This thread does kick ass, whenever I read some of the things that happened in the olden days, it just makes cry and weep. I was only 8 or 9 when SF2 hit and became extremely popular, and it was just insane how during that time there was a huge crowd around the arcades just to either get a play in, or watch, and it was just insane how some people would sit on top of other arcade machines just to get a watch…I really miss those days.
Plus I used to spend my allowances at the arcades everysingle weekend, day, hour I had to play SF2…such was the hype and addiction, however maybe I’ll post my “insignificant” story later, nothing as cool as what guys like Tomo, Jeff, Wats, Apoc etc have to tell though.
Jeff, you need to get Tomo to come back and yourself too. I wanna see you nigs beat some ass.
I see you forgot about me, Wilson and Jabari, eh? I understand. =) I would like to throw you again.
shirts was just a mk scrub that watched us play street fighter at worlds finest comics. hes a good player no doubt, but back in the day, he was all mk. tell me im lying shirts!!! and to jeff, i can still see you are still love to post and exaggerate. its all good, tomos a homie, and will confirm, he was the most dominant player of all time and most consistent ever. not to take anything away from him, he did have charles help him mentally and to provide him with countless hours of free practice and what not. there was no such thing as “training mode” so these are a couple of things he had sort of an unfair advantage in. not saying he couldnt have adapted to players and learn all the perfect counters for every situation, but cmon, he was 13, charles was like 25-26, and a mind that older can recognize situations much quicker and teach a person like tomo, who had godlike reflexes, to become the master. i will disagree with jeff about his numbers of tournaments hes lost, but thats irrelevant. tomos the man, we all can agree on this, good luck with the wife. ttyl guys
watts
who was better at ST when it came out? socal or norcal?
obviously norcal is better in everyway over socal.
bronson.
Taking Tomo to FFA on a random Tuesday without telling anyone?? That doesn’t make any sense to me. If you had posted about it on SRK 10 minutes before you guys took off, hellllla people would have showed up.
SoCal always dominated up through ST and Tomo’s retirement due to chikks and DJ’ing…
I’m gonna post some stuff on SF’s beginnings here soon and the first time SoCal met NoCal.
BTW it was real kool getting in touch with Gerald and Watts again…
ChaZZZy
The tourney Tomo’s referring to there is the California Championships held at UTC in San Diego. Somewhere between 250-400 peeps showed up there. In the end all 4 of the original World’s Finest team, Tomo, Willie Lee, Tony Tsui, and Roger Chung made it to the elite 8 finals. The only peeps who beat the World’s Finest Crew were each other. In the end our own guys eliminated each other, and we took 3 of the top 4 spots, with Tony beating Tomo for the championship. The championship matchup was kinda weird, as each guy had to play all 8 characters in the final matchup, and Tony beat Tomo in a very close final.
I must give it to Tony, as he trained very hard for that tourney, and deserved the win. I must also say that that was the only time in his life, that Tony ever beat Tomo in a tourney, and trust me he was extremely happy bout it… lol:rofl:
