Thanks for posting this vid. One problem: I am only able to watch 69% of it before the d/l times out. Is it a problem on my end?
Can SOMEONE repost this and alot of the videos??? They’re all dead links now!
I’m going to and have reposted most of this stuff in the Hyper Fighting thread: http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113811
I’ll do the snes tourney after I finish uploading the Gang Zhou tourney.
It’s a problem on your end. The vid is being hosted on the local Internet backbone. Sounds like you should simply right-click on the file and download it first as opposed to playing it “live”.
I have also tried that. The server times out.
As promised, I’ve reposted the 93 snes HF tourney (and all other media on the event) here:

You can get it on the hub – http://zachd.com/mvc2/#old - I just “only” have 5GB of space on my site at a time… ECC happened to it.
OK, by mass popular request, I put the Tomo video back up–

It’s been the second most downloaded video on my site in recent months, so I’ll leave it up until downloads start dropping. <3
this thread is made of win and god. Nothing is more interesting to read about then old school SF goodness
Here is the 1994 Japanese Snes SSF2 tourney posted by request:

Crayfish.
Has anyone been over to the Xbox SF2 HF forums? Combined with Watson’s recent HF tourney win has really been a real timewarp. Its like being back in 91-92, all the kids playing the game for the firt time, complaining abt Honda’s ‘unstopable’ HHS, how incredibly hard the CPU is, newb strats and tier lists. Its kinda charmng, you could prolly find almost the exact same posts in the earliest archives of .alt games sf2:

Something else that just set me on the nostalga trip was this, did anyone else notice that guy called Ken’s s.HPxxHP Dragon a ‘knuckle duster’? I mentioned this topic before on the Tomo thread, abt different scenes all over the world creating thier own slang for moves and tactics:

So cool, I’d love to hear any you guys remember from your respective scenes…
Actually does anyone know the source of todays accepted notation? I guess its mainly from the Westcoast Golfland scene, exported around the world via the GamePro guides. Maybe some of the terms even originate from SRK posters like Watson?
Crayfish.
Now that was hilarious. I remember having those same arguments with my friends when I was a kid. Of course 10-15 years has passed since then, but still takes me down memory lane.
I found some old videos of an super sf turbo tourney at uclas gameroom. I was there with mike and jeff and few other people and I cant remember who exactly but tomo had already stopped playing long before that. As soon as I get a chance, I will make some mpegs out of the VHS tape.
awesome man, cant wait.
 WOW thats awsome
What year is this please? I guess this is the closest weve yet come to Golden Era HF footage… I wonder how high the level still was at this point?
Do you need any help with doing quality encoding? There are many resources and skilled nice people here who can give you advice, just say the word.
Massive thanks again. Crayfish.
It was 94 or 95. Cant remember exactly when but ive had the video forever. I also will be getting some footage from some freinds in japan playing hyper fighing. Tachikawa and Itoyama were two of the best players for CE and HF in japan and this video is them showing off some serious zangief prowess back in the day. On some other thread, Apoc (jason) mentioned that he thought that the US players were better up until hf but I really have to disagree with that. No offense but I played in the national tourney qualifiers for CE in tokyos gamest shop and there were MANY top level players. A friend of mine who worked for gamest at the time took me around to jack & bettys, bickeys and numerous other spots where top tier players hung out and the calibur or players was exactly what youd find at worlds finest except 10x as many. Just for the record, and jeff or mike can vouch for this… Back in the day I was ranked at worlds finest from sf 2 through hf and played with tomo, roger, mike and jeff weekly so I have a good idea of the difference between an apple and an orange.
Crayfish, as for the encoding, yes, some help would surely be appreciated.
WHOA!!! This is a joke right? This is too good to be true!! Just who are you by the way? Might your name be spotted on the board here:

Come on over a have a look here too: http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113811
I’ll get straight onto the number1 man here abt encoding, these are things that MUST be captured in the highest quality for prosperity.
wow again, Crayfsih.
I’ll volunteer to do what I can here. Send me the footage in whatever form - digital is fine, VHS/DVD is fine (I’ll PM you the address). I don’t care who hosts it (I should be able to, although I’ll presumably be putting up reams of Evo footage soon), but preferably we have non-FLV files at some point.
Nice find!
Crawfish and Preppy, Thanks for the quick responses. My name is Gerald Abraham. Used to be really into the scene until hf but stopped playing seriously after that. Had some spirts for each version after that and the last sf tourney I actually played seriously in was the first southern hills tourney for SFIII. Besides SF, the only other games I took seriously were vf2 and vf3. I don’t know if people really talk about me here since I havent been into the scene for a long ass time but I do know all the old schoolers pretty well as we used to play on a regular basis.
I got the UCLA tape in the garage and I have some of that first sf3 tourney on 8mm somewhere. As for the fire and ice zangief tapes, I will get them this winter when I hook up with Mr Tachikawa and Itoyama.
im also on aim as juicypiecz if anyone wants to pm me about this stuff. Cheers.
Btw about the board… that was late in the CE days during a period I was in Japan so no im not on there. I was between 11-20 at certain points for CE and HF but Charles (the owner of Worlds Finest) had it so you had to drive down and pay for the opponenets games when someone challenged you for ranking and believe me, that shit wasnt worth it. When CE first started, Tomo was first, Mike Pozo was 2nd and watson was third. I believe Jeff was just getting back from the persian gulf war and his name wasnt even on the board yet. Almost everyone on that board knows me though.
For the original SF the rankings were always, Tomo, Willie, Roger and Tony (who actually beat tomo under stupid rules for the the first national SF2 tourney). After that, Willie moved out of LA. He was ranked 2nd for the original SF and third and fourth was a toss up between Tony Tsui and Roger Chung. For the life of the first SF2 those top 4 rankings never changed.
Correction on the time of the rankings board… that was hyper fighting
