Except of you looked at the original Stan Lee and Jack Kirby creations, with it’s futuristic appearance to Asgard, it isn’t really a retcon; they just made the position even more clear in the MCU films.
Also they were going with the modern Shakespeare motif for casting. Where Idris Elba could of been almost any character in the Thor Films. They just chose actors that were classically trained to potray the roles and Idris Elba was the perfect choice for Helmdal .
I don’t get where this idea that minorities wanna see all the white characters turned into other races. Unless there’s a great story behind it, its mostly condescending as all fuck.
They wanna see more people like themselves in TV. Changing character races is a copojt because in the end we want our own unique characters and stories. Their are legacy characters like storm and black panther we wanted to see. But in general we just wanna see more faces like ourselves. Things are Goin a bit off the rails now because people are lazy as fuck as writers.
It doesn’t mean much if they change the race but they don’t act or feel like the race they may portray.

I agree with all that, but Miles Morales is a brand new character. They didn’t just say “Golly Gee, what if Peter Parker was black”. They just made an entirely different character that got the spider powers.
That’s fine. But to just take a character, make him black and call it a day is weird as fuck. If you can get actor that hits a lot of similarities to the character but just happens to be black, no biggie. That’s why Michael Clarke Duncan worked so well though. He was just built like the brickhouse Kingpin is supposed to be.
Brand new character that’s a minority, fine.
