No online for Tekken 5 .. fuckin' great

Where did you hear this? If that were to happen, then that would be really, really, really stupid.

The SC3 info or the T5 info? SC3 info was in Gamepro IIRC (or some other gaming mag) I think, roughly a year ago. Very early info mind you. The T5 info is from Namco reps in Japan. Was posted on TZ last week.

If you’re refering to SC3…how is it stupid? Notice how DOAU and MKD have sold a shitload better than any ā€œrealā€ fighting game. Going for a serious online component plus the success of SC2=$$$$$$$$$.

I guess namco got more concerned with stuff like listening to player input, adding cg intros and endings for all the characters, character refinement and balancing and releasing the game in a timely matter than worry about online… bad namco… baaad.

I think the game will have Online-Play. Not for the PS2 version, but maybe the X-Box version? Yeah, I know the PS fanboys are gonna be like ā€œteekeen fuive is an playstaion exvlusiveā€. Nothing really stays an exclusive any more.

They really should re-release TTT for XBox live. If people are playing DOA or MK:D, I am sure people will pick up this game as well.

While it’s certainly possible, there’s been no talk whatsoever of an X-Box version. Plus, Tekken’s been a Playstation exclusive since the start, so the fanbase is all on PS2.

Tekken for the xbox? I’ll never see that lol.

Namco and Sony are butt buddies for life. I doubt Xshit would ever get a T, but I’m all for spreading the love, so whatever.

Uh, anyone know wtf the overhead and cost would be for the average american arcade to sport T5 online? Seams like it would be hella spendy and wouldn’t yield much gross for many locations; meh.

I could give two shits about online play.

Get off your ass and go play it somewhere, chances are you need the exercise anyway.

Im just hoping its much better then the craptastic Tekken 4.

All I can say is, it seems that PS2 fighting games (with the exception of MK:D, a fighting game that’s good when you’re NOT fighting)don’t give a crap about online. Nowadays, Xbox has all the online fighting games (DOAU, MKD, GGX2R, KOF02/03, SFAC, CFE, and probably more), and it will have more until whoever makes the PS2 versions take their damn fighting games online. If Tekken 5 doesn’t have online, then it better have a 1-player story mode (a requirement for many fighting games nowadays), TONS of unlockables (another requirement),a Tag feature, and a better gameplay system. That can make good if it isn’t gonna be online. If it does, then it should still have all of the stuff I mentioned above (fighting games need those nowadays).

If Tekken was to come out with online play…? It would might as well port it to Xbox as well.

It’s the only way…

Seeing as all worthwhile fighting games have timing and lag issues even when playing with somebody sitting right next to you, online play is completely irrelavent for me.

Online is what kills the Fighting game community IMO.

SF came out, and crowds would stand in line, meet new people, and have loads of fun. Nowadays online there’s online shit talkers, droppers, and laggers. :td:

how is t5 gonna have tag mode on console? there are walled stages, how do you tag when you’re backed up to a wall

All i really care about is a good game. Why are we even talking about the console version now? Get out and find an arcade that has it and play it, and then I think we should comment on the PS2 version. The gameplay is all that makes the game, I don’t care about story mode, quest mode, volleyball mode, bowling mode, picture mode, fuck mode, or superfast mode. I just want good gameplay for now.

where did u hear this???

Daywalker

Do you have any idea how hard it is to find an arcade in most cities as of late??? This aint 10-15 years ago where you couldnt get away from em. Arcade machines in the barbershop, convinience store, inside the pizza place, at the bus station, in the mall, even in grocery stores. Its NOTHING like it used to be. If you find an arcade… chances are youre shoving tokens down a coin slot or sliding a card in a slot instead of putting your actual quarters in. As for online… it’ll definately deter anyone who dosent apprieciate tekken for what it is because ppl today will buy anything in the console markets that has online play in it, even if its total crap. MK:D being the shining example of that fact.

Arcades did a fine job killing themselves without online play.

Well, one of the only things I should say now is that they must tweak the system (they won’t, though. I’m just dreaming), and maybe add a tag feature. That single feature made Tekken Tag one of the most successful games that Namco made, and it’s pretty fun to boot. As I would say, why have a really good feature in a game and just dump it in the sequel? Namco can really be dumb sometimes.

As for the arcade thing, it isn’t as good as it was. Where I’m from, the joysticks are broken, the games are mainly shooters, DDR, and racing games, and most of the players are cheap bastards. Out of all their games, the only good ones are Tekken Tag and Street Fighter 3: New Generation. I’m talking about one of the best arcades in the Rio Grande Valley here.

When it came to the console versions, Namco always took a step higher than companies like Capcom and SNK. They added stuff that the arcade version didn’t have, and made some stuff that gave it a lot of replayability. Gameplay is good, but it can only take fighting games so far nowadays. People want stuff that will allow them to keep on playing for months. Most people are tired of the Arcade, Versus, and Training mode stuff and nothing else crap. Most of all, online has been proven to help a fighting game more than to hurt it. Yes, there is some lag, but the concept of challenging people from all over the globe sort of brings back the arcade feel, which is pretty much dead now. What shocks me is that high-quality games like Soul Calibur 2 don’t have online, while crappy games like MK:D have online. Marketing i guess.

I’d love to see some VF4:FT or T5 or SC2 action online, I hate DOA online that game blows :frowning:

Online is the only way to go in the west with the dying arcade scene. Certainly the only way I can play people
