you could get yourself a decent computer LCD monitor. With those as long as you’re sending it at least a 480p signal it should display without much lag (2ms seems to be generally the stat that they have). And with 1 frame being 16ms, you should be in the clear for the most part. However they can be costly, like 200 for a 19inch. So you can’t go too large on it :(, but it should be playable for most of our needs.
We will run out of Dreamcasts before running out of CRT TVs.
Time Crisis 4 is using something ??? ?W???
well if this ever gets too bad, I’ll have no bonesabout selling mine to a fellow srker
I hear some HD/LCD TV’s have a game mode? Does that eliminate the lag when playing PS2 fighters?

Since the previous link is slightly outdated.
When playing Hyper Fighting on my Sony CRT, seems i can react better & have better timing…
I’ve been currently been playing on my Sony XBR & seems like i miss time my jumps & constantly get swept even though i know i was blocking…Is this lag?
Guys. Again, it’s not CRTs that are going away. It’s analog broadcast signals being replaced by digital broadcast signals. It has to do with how your tv accepts the modulated signal going through the air, not how it displays that signal. Calm yourselfs haha
^
Yeah. Though eventually this could very well be a concern. Really though, I’d worry more about consoles, specifically dreamcasts and the accessories needed for the games.
Worry not, Sony is developing a new type of television/monitor that uses the same type of process as CRTs do called FED TV which are expected in 2009. Their quality should be vastly superior to current LCD/plasma displays and have a similar profile despite being more like a CRT.
Hopefully they will be similar enough to CRTs to maintain their lack of display lag.
How much money should we save up for one of these?
mine is 8ms response time, I haven’t noticed any lag
A bajillion dollars. :looney:
Damn that’s quite a bit. I duno if I have that much
That TV sounds great though.
I just read this
Carbon nanotube field emission display (CNT-FED) televisions will also address the cost factor that keeps other technologies from mass consumption. For example, in order to install a manufacturing line for large area LCD TVs with the diagonal of 50 to 60 inches, the cost would be $3-4 billion. If this factory produces one million televisions per year, the unit price will reflect the cost of capital. In the case of CNT FED, due to new processes similar to printing techniques on large areas, the capital investment for the same volume of large area TVs would be approximately 1/10th of the capital investment for the alternative technologies. As a result, the CNT FED can achieve the cost adequate for providing both the ultimate large area thin TV at an affordable cost that will trigger the real HDTV revolution.

so it seems
FED tvs= good old cheap CRTs but flat
I must’ve been out of the TV loop longer than I thought. This is the first time I’m hearing of this FED business. One thing I don’t get is since that VXM article was evidently written a few years ago, wouldn’t there be a lot more information reaching the masses about it by now?
as long as i dont have to pay an arma and a leg for flat screen tv and sold:rofl:
I think the main reason behind that is electronics producers don’t want to hurt the sales of current LCD/PDP displays by bringing too much attention to something that is essentially cheaper and better than them in every way.

With his silver jacket, you know this guy is serious business.
Here is some good information on FED displays that shows why other flat panels suck:

I have a feeling these will be showing up in some next-gen Japanese cabinets in not too long.
Man this is wack. I need an hdtv to get the most from my games, but they lag on old gen systems and I can’t wait until 2009-2010 until these things get released, that is if they are even affordable.
HDTVs need to get their shit together. I am tired of all this nonsense.
