If you want to play the Sega Genesis wiht a controller that has a similar button arrangemnt to the orifginal Genesis 3- and 6-button controllers, you ca buy eihter a pad with a good genesis arrangement:
http://stores.horiusa.com/fighting-commander-for-xbox-one/
or a stick:
https://www.razer.com/gaming-controllers/razer-atrox-xbox-one
The Genesis native has this dformation from back i the day:
X Y Z
A B C
Which on both controllers above translate on Xbox One to:
X Y RB LB
A B RT LT
Yet, will those controllers work on the Genesis collection? NO, at least not in the way 16 bit fans would think… Option 0 would map to this on the faces:
A Y Z X
B C > <
were > is FF and and < is rewind
And option 1 maps to the following:
X Y C Z
A B > <
Shouldn’t an update patch insert in the game a Layout 2 with what seems expected absed on above
While you’re at add add E0, E1, and E2, etc… which are editable for special cases, like if I use my right handed stick where the buttons are naturally horizonally reversed t:
Z Y X
C B A
But if the decide to update Columns 3 to allow any combination of local and web players up to 5, because the original Genesis version was a 1-5 player game. (don’t believe me, look at the ghosted out options) then normally A is attack left and C is attack right, which can be used intrchangeably until you add a third or more players. Then it matters. I would want an
X Y Z
A B C
arrangement on the left side so that A=left attack and C=right attack.
I know allowing 5 player Columns 3 Online is a significant patch, so I don’t expect that anytime soon. But isn’t a 2 Megabyte patch of a fight stick setting and 3 editable settings easy enough?
And yes I tired the xbox One Controller mapping section. beciuase L:T and RT can only be swapped with each other, and joystick directions, fce buttons and bumpers can all be swaped wiht each other, there’s no possible way to make
B B B B
B B T T
be changed into:
B B B T
B B B T
I do have a solution coming in a couple months, but it’s inconvenient and messy with a bunch of 3.5 mm wires involved, and won’t be ready for a couple months, but it will be worth it if Sega doesn’t fix it as a programming patch.
By the way, are there similar problems with using a fight stick or a Genesis-like Pad with the PS4 and/or Switch versions? If all these systems have that problem, then maybe sega can fix it all at once. This should be doable in a week.
5 player Columns? That’s going to take more, and may not be worth the programmer’s effort unless they sell a Columns 3 Party Patch as add on pay dlc.
