Nintendo 3DS - Best Handheld Today

I’m level 71 right now. I just finished collecting the 4 cosmic eggs and the warhead.

Phoenix Wright fans there is good news and sort of bad news.

Good news Ace Attorney 5 is hitting the Western regions this fall as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies.

Bad news of sorts is that Ace Attorney 5 is hitting the Western regions as a digital only release. So if you are like me, you are going to need to get a new SD card or upgrade to the 3DS XL to get one of them bigger ones.

Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies is coming

So it starts now huh. As much as I love the phoenix wright series, ima pass on this.

I got a 32gb card on my shit, so I’m all good to go!

Unfortunately I feel this is going to end up as a lose/lose situation for Ace Attorney fans. The fact that Capcom hasn’t bothered to bring AAI2 over to the west and the fact that they’re deciding to go all digital with this game sounds like they don’t have much faith in the franchise over here from a financial standpoint. So you don’t buy the game and risk telling Capcom that there is even less interest for this series over here or you do buy the game and risk telling Capcom that it’s ok to just release any more games over here in the future digitally.

^Which is exactly why they did it. Capcom knows its got Ace Attorney fans by the balls and they don’t have to risk much money on a digital distro… So if the game fails, they can just blame the low sales on “a weak fanbase” instead of their penny-pinching methodology and can keep on forcing digital distro on more and more franchises until they can sneak it in on their bigger franchises(i.e. poor RE fans)… Two Words, Capcom…

as much as i don’t want to i’m gonna have to suck it up and get it.

Just buy the game if you want it. Don’t worry too much about it being digital-only, and be happy that we’re even getting it at all. We should be used to digital releases by now.

Yeah, sadly, digital releases are probably going to be more and more the norm from a lot of Japanese companies due to it being cheaper then creating physical copies and their sales are not affected by re-sale stores like Gamestop. Also in case of Phoenix Wright due to the niche natural of the genre (despite the fact that it is growing in popularity in the Western territories thanks to Ace Attorney and Professor Layton) companies like Capcom who are focused on the bottom line are not likely to give it that much rope to succeed.

Man, you can tell within the last few years how the leadership of Capcom has changed due to decisions they have made to try or not even attempt certain games or bring them over. No doubt that we will get Layton vs Phoenix Wright except it will probably be brought over via Nintendo like the Layton series was.

So, Super Metroid for $0.30 on Wii U VC. Wish they’d release it for 3DS

They’re fucking with us. It has to be part of some “Holy shit, what a long, healthy life the 3ds had!” gameplan.

The lack of SNES titles on 3DS e-shop is completely stupid. I’d pony up mad cash for portable SNES titles and they know it.

Absolutely agree with this. And you’d think they would release ALTTP before the sequel comes out later this year. I know I would buy it, and pretty much any SNES game that was released. I really don’t know what the hold-up is.

guys its ok they gave us River King that will tide us over

Probably one or a combination of three reasons.

  • Piracy and they don’t want to expose their more of their lucrative games (despite the fact that SNES and GBA emulators are rampant anyway).
  • They possibly at first wanted to keep it exclusive to the console Virtual Console to make the home consoles more attractive
  • The one I bet on is that they also are keeping stuff like the SNES and GBA games off because some jerk executive believes there may come a time they should hold off on doing it until they can release another portable generation to prop up that system.

The 3DS is powerful enough to handle most of the games on the Wii/Wii U virtual console but Nintendo as nice as they try to seem is still run by a bunch of suits that want our or anyone and everyone’s money more then they want love or respect.

You know, I own Super Metroid for my original SNES, the original Wii VC, and I will be buying it tomorrow for the WII U so I can play it on the Gamepad. And I would still buy it again for 3DS if Nintendo ever released it, just to have a true portable version. That’s four purchases for the same game (admittingly, it’s only $0.30 tomorrow), and I would do the same for many other classic titles- SNES games are THAT GOOD. Hell, I own 2 original SMW, Megaman X, and SMB All Stars cartridges, and still bought those games on Wii VC, and the various GBA releases.

I agree with your reasoning behind why Nintendo is holding it’s cards until the opportune moment, as it were, but damn, I’m willing to buy SNES games for 3DS NOW!

The 3DS XL is on sale today at Best Buy for $179. Thinking of picking it up.

Do you guys think its worth it? What games would you recommend?

I have a regular DS XL that I’ll probably try and sell along with 9 or so games. Might trade/sell the Wii U also.

I’d say go for it. I bought one and never looked back. As for the games, Castlevania Mirrors of Fate is a must. Its gorgeous in 3DS XL! I’m still patiently waiting for the E-shop to upload some classic SNES titles namely Chrono Trigger, FF III, Super Mario RPG and Ogre Battle.
There are excellent game recommendations few pages back. I picked up Luigi Mansion the other day as per recommended and didn’t disappoint.

@biggzy

I have a normal red 3DS so I don’t know if xl is better or not but I LOVE mine and just about everyone here does too except kinikuu buster, and with all the new hotness launching this year the handheld is a no brainer if you’re a fan of Nintendo’s games. That being said any system is only worth it if it has at least a few games you’re excited about.

What kind of games do you like/want to play on it?

I thought about trading/selling my U as well, but I know I will regret it eventually when some more first party titles come out. I’d hold onto it for a while longer if I were you, but that’s just my opinion, and I completely understand why anyone would disagree.

3DS games I would recommend are Super Mario 3D Land, Mariokart 7, NSMB 2, and the upcoming Donkey Kong and Zelda games. I’ve had my eye on Fire Emblem for a while now too and might pick that up soon. There is a decent selection of e-store games as well, but, as discussed above, there is a definite lack of classic SNES titles available right now.
