This thread makes me want to play through 2 again, or buy 3RE.

Momiji is pretty good if you know what you are doing. I admit Ayane kinda sucks since her delimb rate is poor compared to other characters. I hear both characters are much better in 3RE.
Everything still leads to an Obliteration Technique. 
They might not have all the combos and shit Ryu has, but they can take advantage of the engine in other ways. As Sarangha said, the female characters are much better in Razor’s Edge. They’re actually really fleshed out now, and are actually pretty fun to play.
Get RE. If you liked NGII’s combat you will like RE. It’s fun times, and the VS mode is great. Coop is the same as Sigma II’s but the netcode is much improved. @Sarangha would shit himself at the difference between NGSII’s netcode and Razor’s Edge.

But if you wanna have fun hacking and slashing with a more advanced combat system, 2 rules hands down. I think Itagaki was still around when they finished the combat engine… Later stages are silly, but the missions and ninja fights can be a lot of fun depending on your weapon choices. I lost my copy of 2 and am seriously considering buying it again just to playthrough, and then playthrough again using blade of the archfiend.
Anyone forgotten the very first fight scene in the game? That was like the game saying “Yeah I know you mastered NG Black. But this is on a whole different level”.

Try out NG3: Razor’s Edge if you get a chance. If you liked NGII’s combat, I guarantee you you will like Razor’s Edge. It’s so damn fun. Plus, RE is like $20 and less now everywhere.

Yeah, there is in RE and in the DLC for vanilla NG3. It’s also God tier.
No tonfas, though. Replaced with the claws(claws got some tonfa stuff, like an extra dash with I-frames.)
If you’re having trouble with any bosses and you can’t beat them the “fair” way, there’s always some kind of loop or cheesy tactic you can abuse to BBQ bosses.
The final test of valor boss is retarded in Razor’s Edge. You have to fight through a gauntlet of the games toughest normal enemies, then, you have to fight fiend Genshin on crack. If you spam the 360’s scythe move, the AI on this boss turns retarded and allows you to kill him free. After many failed attempts I abused that shit out of frustration because I didn’t want to waste a skill point on increased health.
What is more beautiful than the 360 slowing down and Tonfa UT’ing through those hundreds of ninjas on that final staircase?

Tests of Valor, man. You fight the entire modern series bosses in RE, slightly “remixed.”
All Tests of Valor were easy except Genshin. Hated him in NG2, too.
Good news is they toned down his flame effects in 3RE so it doesn’t have as much in game slowdown when you fight Genshin(s).

I thought Genshin was finished in NG2. Oh well. If they brought someone back it should have been Alma. Best AI for a boss I think.

NG2 would have been better if the frame rate didnt turn to ass every battle on anything higher than normal.
I wish they’d make a next-gen Ninja Gaiden trilogy/collection to amp everyone up for NG4.
Murai isn’t in RE, but that succubus chick+the dude who burns down your village and fucks you up(if you aren’t God tier and instead win the fight) is in the Test of Valor too.
Sigma II. 
Sigma II cut the enemy count down to keep framerates high, as well as decapitated limbs+most blood(oddly enough RE has a shitload of enemies vanilla NGII style, with decapitated limbs showing up unlike Sigma II but less blood than NGII’s Kill Bill/Tenchu style blood amount.) I think NGS+ 1 and 2 added more gore and maybe decapitated limbs but those games are sub 30 fps so fuck it.
It’d be weird to do because of licensing I believe.
